Reason I ask is because Im travelling internationally in a couple of weeks (5/26 thru 6/2) and I would hate to have to ask to reschedule.

Mine was about 5 weeks from the status change to the interview date. But I'm out in the sticks. Boston could take longer. My guess is those dates will be fine.

One and done baby! I requested a same-day oath for disability reasons and they said yes. (Definitely helped that Manchester, NH is not a busy FO.) After a couple of hours, I walked out with my certificate of Naturalization

Does anyone have any experience dealing with USCIS Field Office staff? I had a question about my interview that couldn't be answered at the National Customer Service level. After sticking it out to get to a level 2 Officer ("your projected wait time is _ 296 minutes _") she sent my question to the FO staff. I was surprised to get a call from the Field Office itself a couple days later. It was a lower-level staffer looking for further info so her boss could make a decision. She said they'd call me back later that day but when they did I missed the call because I was taking a shower. They didn't call back and didn't leave a voicemail. But they didn't mask their number so I could easily call them back. But should I? Or will that do more harm than good? The people at Customer Service didn't have the phone numbers for the Field Offices and you can't find them out on the internet either.

I'm well inside a month from my anniversary date, which is 4/10. 

Anyway, I'm happy to report that my case is moving much faster now.  I got another update today (3/30/17) that my interview has been scheduled and a letter with the details mailed to me. I'm on my phone atm so could somebody with a computer please update the master list? Thanks! I'll put in the date of the interview when the letter arrives.

Updated because I was placed In line for the interview today. Big relief!
I saw on the timeline that Sundrop did the biometrics same day as me at the exact same field office, but was in-line two days later and has an interview date already. So I was checking my case status twice a day trying to pretend I was totally cool. Sometimes VJ can be TMI!

Does anyone know what happens to your N-400 once it leaves the NBC? Does it go straight to your local field office or is it processed elsewhere first?

When i did my paper work everything went through very well no issues, interview lasted about 5 mins that was it. I dont need to worry about the two return residency which is good!

Depends entirely what you're doing as to how long you can renew it for: there are Doctors who stay for 7 years on a J-1, and camp counsellors who have to leave after four months on the same programme. Hence the need for some legal advice. But, assuming yr DS-2019 can be extended, it shouldn't break your employers' bank. Just promise them you won't go home for Christmas because renewing the J-1 as well is more expensive!

GC is Green Card, but that's whole different ballgame from extending your J-1 visa. It's perfectly possible to extend your J-1, and even transfer employers in my experience. However, the J-1 program is rather complex and it depends what category you fall into, what work you're doing and what qualifications you have. I was able to extend for five years in my category but others have limits ranging from 1-7 years.

I'm afraid your employers are certainly going to see an immigration lawyer. But presumably they already saw one before you were hired, in order to apply for your J-1 visa and fill out your DS-2019 form. If that's the case, applying for an extension is a much less costly process (assuming you don't leave the US), since it only requires the renewal of the DS-2019, and not the whole visa. The visa doesn't need renewing until you want leave and then to re-enter the US.

And I'm an idiot, because I sent two checks, so really hoping I don't get it sent back. Was thrown by this part on page 14 of the instructions : "Use the following guidelines when preparing your checks or money orders for the Form N-400 filing fee and biometric service fee." So I mailed 2 checks!

I hope they don't send your application back just because of the separate checks! You gave USCIS all the money it wanted.. Surely that's the important thing!

You're effectively delivering to a PO box, so USPS priority mail works well for that. Fedex and UPS don't deliver to PO boxes so they give you a different address to send to in the guidelines.

I used USPS and was very happy with how it went: you can track the package all the way from dropoff to someone picking it up from the lockbox. Unless anyone else can recommend why Fedex or UPS would be a better bet, I'd say USPS priority is hard to beat.

Hi all, my card was just charged by USCIS. So here's my timeline so far:

2/7 -- Mailed N-400 to Dallas lockbox (USPS priority)

2/9 -- Application received

2/11 -- Credit card charged

No text or email notifications just yet. And no NOA either, obviously.

Ok everyone i got my card in the afternoon yesterday so sinced it said they mailed the card on Jan 30 i got the card on feb 2. Good luck everyone!

Congrats wydot. I got my card in the mail today also. So the final timeline: 1/23 approval, 1/26 production, 1/31 mailing, 2/3 received.

I scheduled an infopass in Atlanta to get my passport i-551 stamped today (received NOA on 02/26/2016, GC expired 05/22/2016).

 

One of the officers that I met told that my extension is valid until 05/21/2017 (1 yr extension from GC expired). I asked him couple of times if he was sure and he responded "I'm positive".

 

I then walked out and called the number at the bottom of I-797 receipt (800-375-5283), spoke to someone who told me that the extension is from the date I received the notice and not the GC expiration date, so I have to get my passport stamped in 24 days (before 02/26/2017).

 

I went back to see another officer and he told me the exact same thing as the first officer. He also told that he can see an immigration officer was assigned to my file as of yesterday. I did mention to him about what I was told on phone and he replied "The call center guys don't know anything about this". He also told me that I can speak to the supervisor if I wish and of course I wanted to confirm this with as many people as I could.

 

The supervisor told me the same exact thing as the other 2 officers.

 

So, the extension is valid for one year after the GC date of expiration and NOT the NOA receipt date.

 

I at least feel better knowing that someone was assigned to my file. 

 

Another interesting thing the second officer told me was that most are not interviewed for first green card (temporary 2yr ) but almost all are interviewed for the second one (10 yr). I think it is the other way around.

Hi SRCB2503, Looking at my I-797 letter, I  think this has to be the right understanding of when the extension starts and ends. The letter says "your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year." That surely means that the extension begins on the date the card expites. If it was a year from the date of the letter, first it wouldn't be a full year's extension because your card would still be valid for the first few months and, second it would say "a year from the date of this letter." 

What the other officer said about interviews seems bizarre. You will always have an interview for AOS based on marriage to a US citizen. A glance at the timelines on this forum will show that very few ROC applications require an interview. He must have been mistaken.

Of course a couple of hours after my impatient comment, I get an alert saying the card has been mailed to me. So my timeline went: Approval 1/23, Production 1/26, Mailing 1/31. I'll post again when I get my hands on the shiny new card!

I had my interview and my case was approved last week but still shows the initial message.

I have the exact same question! For my AOS application in 2014, the steps from approval to receiving my green card took a week total. I'm eight days out from approval my ROC already and my online status shows "card production." Has this part of the process slowed down too?

I just looked for more info on instructions in n400 application. There are two sections of all the documents you need. One sections is for the documents you need to submit with application and the other is for the ones you need to take with you for interview. Go ahead and take a look. I think we don't have to submit tax return with application but we required to bring them to the interview.

Hi Reda There's a contradiction between different USCIS guidelines on the issue of which documents to send: the instructions to form N-400 agree with what you have written here. But the Document Checklist (M-477) at the end of the Guide to Naturalization (M-476) says to send copies of all documents, including those relating to marriage, children, and taxes. Looking at other forums, it seems like the N-400 requirements are more flexible than the AOS and ROC ones so I think it's your call what you send and what you bring to interview. Still, I wanted to make sure you had all the information when deciding.
