  1. Your SSN card has a note on it that says “valid for work only with DHS authorization”. after you become a citizen, your new SSN card does not have this note (or restriction). I didn’t have to go to Social Security Office. I had selected on my N400 form that USCIS will inform Social Security on my behalf and I received my updated SSN card in the mail. same SSN#. They just removed that note from it.
  2. About updating Social Security and applying for US passport… I have my oath ceremony today. After the oath, USCIS is giving the chance to apply for US passport at USCIS. I have all my documents ready. My question…to apply for US passport, I need to give them the naturalization certificate as proof for citizenship document. And it may take multiple weeks to get my passport and naturalization certificate back. Social Security office will need the same document to update my record to citizen. If I update Social Security sometime in 2025, would this possibly a problem when I’m filing my taxes for 2024? which one should I prioritize?
  3. Thank you for your response. My interview was towards the end of the day. I was finished around 3:30-4:00pm with my naturalization interview. I think that’s why I couldn’t do same day oath.
  4. @top_secret did you go to oath ceremony in SD 30min before your appt time like on your N-400 interview date? The oath ceremony notice doesn’t specify anything like the N-400 interview notice. My oath ceremony is at 1pm in a few weeks and wondering what time I should arrive and what time I will be done (in case I can stop by Social Security Office to update my SSN).
  5. I don’t have travel plans at the moment but I will need to apply for myself soon (oath ceremony scheduled in 2 weeks). I wanted to see if your method would work for me too
  6. Do you really have plans or you just showed a possible trip to Cancun?
  7. Congratulations!! If you don’t mind sharing…how did you answer their question about why you want to become a US citizen?
  8. Hi everyone, Does anyone here know what kind of supporting doc.s are needed for applying to naturalization (online application for N-400)? This is the only info I found for naturalization based on vawa. https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/fact-sheets/DO_FactSheet_NatzForVAWALawfulPermResidents_V3_508.pdf If anyone has a checklist I’d really appreciate it.
