  1. Please let me know if you find out any additional information. I am an american citizen and I would like to know how to bring my mother in-law or my sister in law over to visit

    :help:

I am trying to find out how to bring my mother and father inlaw to the United States. My husband is a permant resident as of March 2007, We are expecting our first child this december and would like his parents to come vist for at least 6 months maybe a year.

I was told that his parents had to file on there own, But when they went to the emabssy they were told that We would have to file. Please help any info is welcome. Thank you

    Rose :help:

You need to ask them how they phrased it when they asked the embassy. If they're trying to get a tourist visa, they need to file on their own. If they're trying to get an immigrant visa, your husband would need to file, but can't do that until his has his citizenship. As USC, you cannot sponsor your in-laws.

Tourist Visas are normally for 6 months max, so if they said they were going to the US for a year, the Embassy staff may have assumed they were talking about getting sponsored for permanent residency.

  2. Congratulations!!! I do have a question for you. When he entered into JFK did they issue him a temporary work permit? I have read somewhere in a forum where if you enter through JFK you will be stamped with a temporary work permit. Once again Congrats.

Yes My Fiance was stamped with a temporary work permit at JFK port of entry. He was given even though he did not request.

  3. I can't speak my DH language either, but I normally can pick up on a word or two here and there. My hubby won't teach me the language. I have to depend on his brother, telling me a word or two in emails.

What is disappointing though I recently learned of someone teaching the yoruba language in our area and when I inquired about the classes, I was told that I needed "to be of Afrikan descent and that it involved the IFE classes as well". My hubby says NO!! So I'm looking for other ways to learn the language.

Is anyone familiar with this software, I found it on Ebay???

    40_2.JPG

I have not heard of that software but I too would like to learn Yoruba. Let me know if you find a great place to learn it.

  4. My Wife got are visa approved at the lagos embassy in nigeria on 02/26/07. i just want to extend my sincere gratitude to all those who took out time to express there views and experiences. they are so valuable to our immigration success in Nigeria. Thank you all.

    congratulations

  5. Actually, I have bought a few of the movies from Africvideos myself. I haven't had any delivery problems from them either. I found them off of ebay and I think they are the most legit as I've been dealing with them for over a year now. They have a slew of great movies. I love watching Nigerian movies too, almost better than American movies. My fiance is a little uneasy with me watching them because he think that I may get some wrong ideas from them. He is surprised because I know the names of the Nigerian actors more than he does. Just shows how much I watch them. ;)

Anyway, Here are some movies that I recommend and think that they are reaallly good: Games women play, Cry like Rivers, Keeping faith.

I like watching Nigerian movies but all of mine come from abroad . I have a bout 30 or so. where do you by them and how much do they cost?

  6. Wow! a big congratulations to you two! :dancing: Was the interview pretty smooth?

I don't have much information about the interview now. He was very prepared for the interview and he went with loads of documentation. So they tried to get him with with irrelevant questions. But I do know that he was asked many questions were odd. He was asked what grade I teach and he said 5th but my employer put 4th grade (because I am teaching 4th this year only). Well, later it was proven by one of my letters that I had taught 5th grade and the interviwer admitted that he noticed the discrepancy but see 5th grade in many of the letters particularly the initial letter that was written in 2001. He also asked my fiance about my father's occupation. My fiance said he did not know because my father had retired prior to 2001. He was asked about brothers and sisters since he read in one of the letters that I am from a large family so he said he has spoken to a few of them and he named them. He says he knows my sister Racquel the best because she lived with me for two of the six years that we have known each other. He asked about wedding plans but my fiance said all of that will depend on this interview and its hard to plan when our future is in God's hand via the American Embassy. They asked if he knew I was married and he said yes a few years before meeting him. My fiance said his interviewer was a white male but he was inquiring but nice.

  7. My friend you are not too young to get married...I am 22 and my wife is 23 now we are facing our visa process.

i agree with everyone else !! Maturity really matters. However my first marriage was at that age and it was to a pretty good guy but as someone else mentioned in an earlier post....the marriage did not last. It was not because I found out something bad about my ex but I DID NOT KNOW MYSELF YET. I spent alot of time making sure my ex was not abusive , loving and responsible but I did not look into myself. So just think about that. But I have many friends who married at that age and most are still happily married after 10 and almost 20 years.

    Good Luck

  8. I just thought I would ask since I am waiting IMPATIENTLY for my NOA2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can soooo relate to your feeling right now keepinitreal, because I know when we were awaiting our NOA2 it seemed like forever until we got it! Hopefully you will get the NOA2 soon! Hang in there!

MY INTERVIEW IS COMING UP SOON BUT I REMEMBER WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO BE WHERE YOU ARE NOW KEEPINITREAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. WOW, I am a MENA girl and I have heard of fuard but i still wished that I knew how they got the numbers with the high fuard etc. Who tells them information or where do they get there information from. I have heard that most Nigerians do this but I have also heard of most Moroccans doing it. They deny a lot of cases in Morocco and I was told that when they do this and it is returned to the USCIS I hear that a lot of the petitions just die. The US citizen moves or or the Moroccan man. But I feel like this, when you deny a true union and these two people, in our case are muslim and it is not a natural nor is it encouraged for muslims to go a long time with your spouse. I know that we are trying but it is so hard. But I ws thinking, if i was getting paid and we got denied wouldn't I just call him and tell him and see if he wants to make up some information???? The USCIS will send me the letter right, well all i will do is just call the person and tell them and if it was really worth the money I would help him get it. This is what confusses me beucase I have heard of several faurd marriages and I want to know how to report it.

I am so upset and hurt by everything and confussed at the same time. I mean hearding this board I am starting to find some sympathy with the COs. (OF ALL THINGS. :o And I hate those people.) But I will say this maybe people need to be punished I see that the Couslar Corps and the USCIS have two different things going on. I do not think that the rude manner and the probing questions are necessary. I believe that the USC should have some say over the person they are bring over. Another is the culture I know a friend he went and married a Nigerian girl beucase he said he could not deal with the culutre differences of the American woman. I believe that Moroccans are a little better at this, but I know they do the same. It seems that becuase a relationship fails people seem to always go with the fuard. America does not have the same morals nor vaule system and when you think about it, people normally divorce after about 2 to 5 years.

I do not think that the US should make the country so applying and that they should not give some who came to the US the right to become a citizen if the SO was abused they shoudl go back to there country. I know that may seem hard but why did they come here, to be married not pursue other opportunities right???? It seems like they put two in the same. I asked my fiance what happens if we do not work out if he was here and he said that he wants to be married and if we are not together, he go back to easy life in Morocco. America he says sounds like a hard place and life in Africa is easy compared to here. Alot though we have a lot of money (debt) we are not that great and it seems that people are really abusing and using others to get what they want. I wonder what would happen if they did not get the citizenship or if they where more restricted. I also believe the USCIS should interview the petitioner and that we should be place under the microscope you know. I am not saying that someone with less should be treadted differently than some with more, but the motives of people should be place out there.

I am willing to do a lie detector test, I am willing to be interviewed and I am willing to give you a few tell all pics if this would get my guy her. However, if I ever in my mind thing that he is using me. I believe I would stop it right before it started.

It seems that the Immgration process places you in a different mode of thinking. It is a different kind of relationship. When you remove the visa and everything else what do you have????? I wished that people would not behave this way and I am not sure how to resolve the problem. But I will say this a lot of conseuling with the couples should be given and alot of support is needed. I also think they shoudl have the prison time just deal with if for two years and then you will get the green card. Because this is what it sounds like is going on. What I do not understand is why woudl America want these people to stay in the US if they are lairs, you know.

I think that more should be done at home. It seems like the approvals go through and people think they have a marriage. I mean if the embassy wants me to make a home porn just let me know, they can have it if this is what they want. But this really tells about how the US does not trust us and how we should not trust them. I wonder why do people help stay in the US. I hear a lot of sad stories of someone coming here and they need etc. But you know in the end these people are lairs. I think that the ability to become a citizen shoudl be taken away and other things should come in to play. I think they should

Your comment is all emotional !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Sleep it off!!!!!!!!!! Then come up with a real plan because I think your comments are irrational. If they denied they must have had some reason!!!!!!!!!!! Pursue that ! Don't insult America or the American People. And there are many Americans with morals . Besides the Muslims don't need morals ......they can marry up to seven wives !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. I would like some suggestions on CD's or web links to find soothing,

    relaxing African music.

I am a Massage Therapist and always looking to find

interesting yet quiet tunes for my clients to relax to during their treatments.

I mostly have the happy, fast and upbeat African songs and can't find the slow and soulful

ones more suitable for the atmosphere.

Anyone has any suggestions on some soulful slower African tunes ?

The Best African Music to relax to is African American if you ask me

  12. David's interview was 2-7-07. He arrived early and was called at about 10am. He said the woman who interviewed him was 30ish and white. He said she stared him up and down but was very kind to him. He said she asked only a few questions such as ... How and when did you meet? What does she do for a living? Did you know she was married before back in 1993? When did she come to Nigeria? Then she asked to see the pics of my visit to Nigeria. He said he looked her in the eyes and answered all questions and she told him to come back on Monday for the visa and congratulated him. He said he nearly fainted because he was at her window for less than 2 minutes. She never asked for phone bills, letters etc...

As a side note I want to say that this interview doesn't sound typical of what even I have read on VJ. I think David was fortunate and also well preparted and well organized, but perhaps the interviewer was busy or preoccupied...at any rate...he picked the visa on Monday and is on his way home to me!

How do you know what is typical ???????????????Is there a typical ????????????????

  13. If time permits, Masterpiece just may respond to some of these stories. One thing is guaranteed, it may not be too pretty for a lot of people and repsonse will continue unabated no matter whose ox is gored. The word scamming may be dissected and i daresay we may yet find new words describing these trends that have.................On the other hand, i just may let sleeping dogs lie. Sometimes the power of my own words scares me....shitless...................

To all those who feel they have been hurt by Nigerian men, i say this......Let go of the hatred and move on............Oprah would be proud of me for taking this stance. Reconcile within you that you are stronger than you may have let on and oh yeah here`s a thought..............try not to generalize about other Nigerians because of your particular experience. It may constrict and confine you in a box you really do not want to be in this year...2007.

For those who continue to take the leap of faith............do not be dissuaded by stuff you read here because whether the guy was met in downtown Michigan, Atl, or Lagos, for the most part we are all taking leaps of faith. For each story i hear about a guy that "scammed" his way into U.S, there are more storeis about those who have found their soulmates outside the borders of North America.....

I truly wish you all Love, Peace and Joy..........Truly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ENUF SAID!!!!

Well I am one of those women who are taking a leap of faith(with my eyes open)

I have a So in NIgeria and I am not bothered by what Idocare and Ben.....and I would like to hear them share their story. Just because they are sharing their stories and what they have learned does not mean that they have not healed and moved on. Actually it is when someone has been truly and totally healed from a hurt that they can share their honest painful stories. And they have that right to share it. There are sides to every coin. As for the Oprah comment. I love Oprah too but honestly Oprah has moved very well but SHE IS NEVER SILENT ABOUT HER HURT , PAINS AND MISTAKES OF THE PAST! In fact that is one of the things that reminds her to reach and help others who may be going through the same things. As it is said earlier all of the fiance should arise a red flag to the embassy.

So Speak Your Mind Girls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This world does not have sunshines only there are clouds and even storms.

  14. I'm currently one of those people who is just as aggressive in asking the immigration to deport my ex-husband back , as I was in bringing him here, and we have a child together.

His first son. At the end of the day none of that mattered, and I feel he'll receive his justice soon and take his flight back to Nigeria with his mind wondering how did this happen!

I am trippin'! I never heard about an african man leaving his child...I am not being rude or

funny, but I am really trippin' off this...

Well believe it!!! My Ex was trying to encourage a visajourney member's young husband to leave her, and she is pregnant! He told him that he had to assure his future in America and he did not need her trying to hold him back. He even had the audacity to tell the guy that his wife had him living in a doghouse out in the bush. I told the poor guy, if you saw the living conditions that he came from, you would laugh him under the table! I was just amazed, because I had to ask myself, "Self, you are a reasonable intelligent woman, how could you have been so blind and married someone like that?" I'll be the first to admit that I was taken hook, line, and sinker. :o

I guess it goes to show you just how desperate they(the scammers) are getting for the green card

  15. But for some reason, once it gets overseas to Nigeria and the interview, all types of B/S comes up.
Because at the consulate level, everything changes. An approved petition allows you the priviledge of interviewing for a visa. Given that Nigeria is a very high fraud country, the process is much more rigorous and demanding. At this level, anything they want is, unfortunately, reasonable.

Anything they want is reasonable!!! Not when it infringes on the USC right as a tax paying upright citizen to be humiliated. Prying into the sacred part of one's marriage is not reasonable and does not uphold American belief in family values. I believe in justice that is what the American system is "suppose" to be about.

I am so sick of this embassy & that is why I am proposing a way for all USC to go to the Nigerian embassy and storm on them. I am sure it will get national attention to the fraudulent CO's there. Even if the country is known for fraud, I believe USC CO's should not go to that level! My thinking is that Sweete is with me in going, Can I get others? In numbers we can make a change!!! Even if your spouse or fiance is here, I beg of you to take action so that no one else has to suffer the way we have!!!! If so contact me via email...celesteloveade@yahoo.com so we can arrange action!!! I am so very serious!!

Well I have a SO and I too pay taxes . But just because we pay taxes that does not mean that our fiance who is in another country cannot be questioned to the highest extent. They should be questioned !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We pay our taxes for some of the benefits that we have here like roads and order and all the other conveniences that we take for granted- or do not avail ourselves too. Yes marriage is sacred but any sacred marriage is intimate. I would not like to have to answer those questions but I will answer them if that is required. When we learn and respect our own law and government then we can't be taken advantage of. We should not sound like "Victims" but "Victors". That is how we overcome. Dr. Martin Luther King one of the greatest civil rights speakers always spoke highly about America but he challenged both the government and the People to live up to their roles. We all remember what was said about the government but we never talk about what he said to each individual and to the people as a whole. Yes we should demand that the government do their part but we have duties too. We can't just make demands on the government because we pay taxes. Some of our taxes is our own retirement fund in the form of Social Security. And thank God the government takes it from most of us because we would not keep it in a bank until we are 65. Not most of us.

  16. Sweetie,

I agree with most of what you said except the role of USCIS and about the US citizen persuing that her ex is deported. I disagree with that advice because I think all scammers should be persued and eventually deported. I think most of these people can get away with their deeds is because the normal citizen ignore it. Now while doing that .........she should go on with her life but- by all means she should not give up. I don't care if he is a doctor in the USA. Anyone who goes up can be brought down. If she helped get him here here then in time she can get him deported. It will take time, patience, intelligence and knowledge but it can be done. If we were as committed to deporting those who we later find out were scammers as the scammers are committed to getting here........ the embassies would not have to do the irrational things that some of them do.

We can picket the embassy all we want but they will ask us what are we doing about the millions of scammers that did get through. As citizens we have responsibilities. We want the embassy to do their job but we don't do ours. I will be very happy to go and picket in Nigeria. Just let me know . I am all for it !! But we must show them that we too are interested as american citizens to help deal with the problem. Then and only then will we be respected and taken seriously. Count me in for the trip to go with signs but can we please help the government attack a real problem. Whether we agree with it or not the USA has one of the best government than most of the other coutries of the world. It is not perfect and yes there are scammers and thieves and cheater and money maker and self seekers here. But most Americans would rather deal with the issues here than the discomforts found in other countries.

So God Bless America and let's improve the imperfections. But we all know there are reasons for the irrational interviews and questions done in Nigeria.

  17. when we file our petitons, everything goes smooth sailing and I haven't heard of anyone complaining of a denial here, however some people get RFE's for lil things they have overlooked.

Because USCIS's role in this process is to simply to 1) confirm that the petitioner is indeed a USC and therefore has the right to file a petition and 2) that the couple has met in the previous two years. That's it. That's why 99.9% of petitions are approved.

    Well Said Kit Kat
