Hey all, My naturalization interview has finally been scheduled - I thought it was going to be in Newark but my interview letter says it's booked at the Cranbury Office in NJ (8 Cedar Brook Drive). Has anyone been to this location before, or is also scheduled for an interview here? I can't find any information about it online, even by searching the forums on this site which seems weird!

That would be my plan as long as they allow it! If they don't allow that option for whatever reason, then I would need to either change my travel plans or rebook my interview in advance. -

It's true that Newark is one of the USCIS locations that does same-day oaths by default -- my question is whether they will allow people to choose a later oath instead of doing it the same day when there are circumstances like mine (imminent travel). -

Just got a notification that my interview has been scheduled at the Newark office - I don't have the letter with the date yet, but from what I can tell it's usually ~4 weeks out. Will update when I know! Does anyone know if Newark lets you do your interview and then schedule your Oath ceremony for a different day? I have international travel booked for 1-2 weeks after I'm anticipating that the interview gets scheduled. If it's possible to keep my interview date - then keep my Green Card for travel and take the oath when I return - that would be the best possible outcome for me! -

Self-employment in Employment History
*FishF00D* replied to Sofitalian's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
^ Agreed. I also have long periods of self-employment and when filing out the employment history for the N-400 I basically just matched the information present in my taxes (ex. names of organizations that issued me W2's, plus periods of self-employment). -
Yeah I have no idea what they could possibly ask really, I just needed some affirmation from the experience of this community about this situation before taking action! There was a long time in navigating the divorce (and while ROC was pending) where I wanted to cut him out of my life/block him on everything because of the way he behaved and spoke to me, but based on my past experiences with him I was scared that he could have physically hurt me or "gone back" on his testimony about our marriage out of spite (very much an "if I can't have you then no one can" energy). He was super manipulative of me and had a true Jekyl/Hyde personality, so it took a long time to detach safely. I'm finally at a point where I feel safe enough to verbalize firm boundaries - but I wanted to be as sure as I can of what risk that might pose to my status if his personality flips. Thank you so much for the support and positive words!

Thank you! During the breakup process there were points where he was trying to be "nice," and at one point he actually provided me with an attestation letter of his own for the ROC, verifying that the marriage was entered into in good faith and owning up to some of his behaviors. I've wondered if there being a letter from him in the ROC opens the door to him being contacted further -- but given the context it seems more apparent that contacting him could be unreliable given the abusive behaviors and history of drugs/alcohol etc.

Much appreciated! Definitely not dissuaded from naturalizing, I applied in Nov. Given how intimately related these traumas have been with my visa status I'm looking forward to a future where I can keep the life I've built but don't have to deal with USCIS again and can put all of the pain behind me.

The divorce agreement/judgement papers don't mention abuse (there's no info included/necessary in the state we lived in as to why the divorce was sought) but now that you mention it, my removal of conditions application did include information about the abuse; I ended up including an lengthy attestation of the timeline of our relationship (including descriptions of abusive behaviors/cheating etc) and also included letters from my therapist at the time - as well as my case manager at the domestic abuse shelter/agency I sought help from. Maybe if USCIS needed to verify data they would be more likely to contact †hose individuals & other references rather than my ex with all that in mind then?

I entered the country on a K1 visa and was married to my USC spouse; I'd received my conditional Green Card, and we ended up divorcing within a few years. I applied for (and received) my 10-year Green Card with a divorce waiver, and have recently applied for Naturalization. My question is: During the naturalization process, how likely is it that USCIS will dredge back into the details of my previous marriage - or more pointedly, how likely are they to contact my ex-spouse? Our relationship ended with divorce because he was abusive, an alcoholic/addict, and wouldn't stop cheating on me. At various points he threatened to take his life and threatened the safety of others, and I almost got a restraining order but feared that it would have actually pushed him over the edge and led to violence. He's historically been unstable and expressed vindictiveness toward those who wrong him in some way, so I can't predict his behavior. I cut off contact with him over a year ago, but he's recently found a way to reach out to me -- and I'm afraid that if I don't respond to him (or otherwise tell him to leave me alone), that there's some way he might be able to meddle with my immigration status. I don't know if this is a grounded fear (whether USCIS would even contact him to verify information about me for any reason) so I would really appreciate it if anyone has any guidance as to whether an ex-spouse remains relevant to naturalization after receiving a GC under the divorce waiver. Thank you, all.

I ended up trying different browsers and clearing my cache etc. to no avail. I eventually opted to do as @Mike E suggested and include an additional document/evidence showing my attempt to answer the questions, screen caps, and provide my answers there. The form allowed me to file my application even without filling out "prior spouse history" info, and in looking at the PDF summary after filing I figured out what happened: I selected my marital status as "Divorced" but the form auto-populated the answer to the next question ("How many times have you been married?") as "0". Because it says zero, it nulls out all of the marital history data - and there's no option to change the number of past marriages on the online application. Given this glitch hopefully the IO accepts and understands my explanation. -

Just filed my N400 Online! Immediately received NOA and Biometrics Reused/Waived documents. Filed on the basis of 5 years as a permanent resident, estimated time until case decision says 10 months but a local immigration attorney informed me it's more like 6-8months where I am. -

Oh wow that's a lot of problems with the form! Sounds like a reasonable way to account for the errors if the glitches don't resolve - thanks for the suggestion! Ah-haa yes I'll give that a try - I tried clearing my cache/cookies for the particular site but it wouldn't hurt to be extra incognito. -

Jumping on this thread: I'm trying to complete my N400 online right now and it's working fine except for the section on "Your Prior Marriages." Every time I try to fill out this section it lets me get all the way to the last question ("What was your prior spouse's immigration status when your marriage ended?") but when I hit "Next" instead of saving my answers it goes back to the first page of the section ("What is your prior spouse's legal name?") and everything is blank. The rest of the N400 has saved all of my answers just fine - I'm only waiting on this one section! Do you think the form is just being buggy because it's almost Thanksgiving? -
Hey all! I have a few questions about documenting my employment history: In listing past employers, some of mine have different incorporated names on their W2's than the name of the business where I actually physically worked. Which one should I use for my N-400 -- the name/address I gave to the IRS or the name/address of the physical location? Some business I previously worked for have changed their name -- should I put down their old name (matching my previous tax filings) or their new name? There was a period in 2020 where I was transitioning from being fully unemployed to working for myself and continued filing for partial unemployment benefits -- I'm wondering if anyone else has accounted for time "partially unemployed" on their N-400? Currently my application says that my period of "unemployment" ended when I began working for myself -- should I extend my record of unemployment until whenever I actually got off unemployment benefits? Thank you! 😊
