Our Story
We met while I was working in the US. I remember the date exactly: 2 July 2001. My parents and sister had been visiting me and they had left that morning.
After playing softball with my company's team, I stuck around to do a little karaoke and hang out with some friends
Since I wanted to sing a duet and none of the girls I was with wanted to do one, I approached another table and asked the cutest girl there if she would like to sing a song. Fortunately for me, she did :)
We ended up doing a couple of numbers that night and started dating the next day.
In January 2003, we officially moved in together and I was the happiest I have ever been for the next 6+ months. I had considered asking her to marry me during that time, but since we both knew I was going back to the UK when my work visa expired, I didn't want the proposal to be coloured by that.
I returned to the UK in August but soon arranged to pay her a surprise visit in October (which is another story in itself!) but still did not propose, even though I had bought a ring back in July and had it with me on that trip!
She visited me at the end of November to spend Thanksgiving in Wales with my family and I popped the question 2 days before she flew back.
During another visit to the UK over Christmas and New Year, we decided that we would prefer to start our married lives in America and began preparing the K-1 paperwork shortly after she went home.
As you can tell from our timeline, it took us a while to get everything sorted out, but we have been married since September 17, 2004 had our formal wedding on June 11, 2005 and welcomed our first child on September 17, 2007.
