  1. They don't have DS-11s and what is N-600? Lol If the parent becomes a citizen before the child turns 18, they are considered children of a US citizen and thus, they are too, US citizens. But it doesn't happen automatically. You need to fill out a form and show them the date you became and citizen so you can prove they weren't yet adults. Problem is, I don't know where to do this?
  2. Hello!!! So my Oath ceremony is 9/13. I have two minor children, who will derive citizenship from me. Obviously only I, the adult, is taking the Oath the letter states bring all Green cards/Visas/any document that USCIS has issued you related to your alien status. Ok... what about the kids' green cards? I would think no (?) Because this is about the adult but I thought I would ask. Also, after your Oath, what paperwork do you fill out to get your minor kids the derived citizenship? To clarify: yes the minors become citizens when the adult becomes one but it is not magically updated somewhere. There is paperwork the adult citizen has to fill out, just like if you had a baby with an American and they got citizenship from the parent. Any idea what kind of paperwork and where you file that? TIA
  3. **Update** My Oath ceremony has been scheduled for September 13th 2023. My interview was 7/27/23 Btw I requested a legal name change. I know there were rumors about legal name changes make things take longer. Not true (the IO said the same thing) and my interview is in front of a judge but not in a courthouse.
  4. Congratulations!!!!!! I am still waiting on an Oath date. Ok its only been 2 weeks but it is the first thing I check when I wake up in the morning 🤣🤣
  5. That us SO useful!!! Thank you SO much for this!!! I should be having the ceremony in September. I cannot wait!!
  6. Oh shoot!!! I better get a passport then to have proof of citizenship lol.
  7. I am not saying it was denied I am saying there is paperwork that needs to be done to get the kids to be citizens. As in, you send in paperwork to prove your citizenship status and their info and ask that they are declared US citizens through derision. Then you must send in their green cards and get them passports. They won't be denied but the system won't automatically list them as citizens. You must do the legwork
  8. Small correction: it is not "automatic". They are eligible to file for naturalization as "derived from a parent". There is still paperwork to be done and cases to be filled. Just like if you had a baby with a US citizen in another country, you had to do some paperwork to get the baby a US citizenship. Same with children whose parents became citizens before their 18th bday. According to my lawyer, it is a misconception it is an "automatic" process
  9. Hello again! So I requested a legal name change with my N-400. Passed interview and now I am waiting on my Oath date. From what I gathered, I will take the Oath, turn in my green card(s), get a certificate of naturalization with a photo and my new name, correct? Then what do I do? I mean, in your personal experience, in what order do I go about changing the name in everything? (And I do need a passport? I am not planning on traveling anywhere and my drivers license has the Star on it anyway). Can you order copies of the certificate of naturalization? Is it true that you must send the original certificate to get a passport and then trust they will return it? Do I need to let my employer know I am now a citizen? (Does it matter?) Anything else you did after you became a citizen? TIA!!
  10. My timeline was like this: 6/3/23: filled online 6/4/23: Biometrics will be reused 6/23/23: Interview scheduled 7/27/23: Interview (passed) Now waiting on Oath date. Detroit hub.
  11. Ugh the wait is killing me 🤣 Tomorrow will be 1 week since I passed my interview. The reason why I am in a "hurry" is I have twins who turn 18 years old mid-November. If I become a citizen before they turn 18, they can derive citizenship. Otherwise, they have to each go through and pay for it all on their own. I am TRYING to be patient but I keep checking my online status every day 🤣🤣
  12. Adding my time line for N-400. I have been here 7 years, with no travel at all. Original petitioner and I have divorced. He left me 6 months after we arrived here Anyhoo: Filed 6/3/23 online Detroit office. Reused biometrics. Interview 7/27/23 - Passed (very boring case file. Not even a parking ticket. Worked all 7 years etc.) Waiting on oath ceremony. I was told sometime in September or October.
  13. Congratulations to both your parents!!! I had my interview on 7/27 (so two weeks after your parents) in Detroit and they said they are all booked for August ceremonies 🤣 I am hoping for a September date.
  14. Actually... they do ask you if you have been diagnosed with a depressive disorder and/or suicidality disorder or any other mental illness that could affect your judgement. Now, you can just say no (which is technically lying) or you can be forthcoming and say yes but here is a letter from my doctor that I am of sound judgment and I am getting treatment.
  15. I had mine today (and I was approved). My husband came with me to the office but was not allowed into the room. He waited in the lobby. I had brought everything and the kitchen sink with me. They only asked for: green card, drivers license and original passport that I used to enter the country. GL!!
  16. He said they are booked for August since it is 7/27 already, so he said he is adding my name to the September list. He gave me paperwork with the address of the place it will be held in and everything and told me to look for a letter in the mail within the next 30 days with the actual date and time. My online status has changed to "Oath ceremony will be scheduled".
  17. I PASSED!! Oath within the next 60 days (most likely in September) Thank you everyone!!
  18. Who is the governor of my state. How old must you be to vote. Who is the Speaker of the House. Who signs bills into laws. Name 3 of the original 13 colonies. What are the two parts of Congress. He didn't go further into the full ten because I answered all of them correctly. Pretty straight file. I don't even have a parking ticket, I have been working all 7 years I have been here. I do "owe" $300 of state taxes and I say "owe" because there was an error on the tax papers and I shouldn't be owing any tax at all, but I have been making payments and brought all that with me. We chatted a bit about that and he agreed that it is ridiculous that they charged me to begin with. I explained I filed an amendment buy until it goes through, I am making payments. He was fine with that and signed off on it. Had me sign a statement that said I provided proof of payment to him, asked me about my name change and confirmed everything. Took new picture. Told me oath ceremony will be in September or October, gave a paper that said I am recommended for citizenship explained to me how to apply for a US passport. Gave me the location of the Oath Ceremony place in my local area and sent me on my way. We did go over if I was ever arrested, lied, was ever a terrorist or a prostitute or a drug dealer etc (no to all of these), asked me my employer, I work for the local public schools and I am in College to be a Special Ed teacher. That was that
  19. UPDATE!! I just got out of my interview. I was recommended for citizenship. Oath within 60 days.
  20. I really hope I get a good IO. I am not too worried about the Civics test or the language exam as I was raised bilingual (Greek/English). I am worried about oh... missing a paper or something. I read somewhere here, someone was asked for the lifting of conditions paper and for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. We had a flooded basement a few years back and I lost a lot of paperwork must have been one of them that was completely ruined. And there is no copy of it in my online account, only case updates as I had filled via snail mail. Eeek!!
  21. Thanks everyone!! I forgot to add, I did not file under the 3 year rule. I have been here 7 years, so it is filed under being here for over 5 years
  22. Hey everyone!! My N-400 interview is in 2 days. I am so nervous!! Nothing weird about my case. No criminal record, just a straight laced gal, worked hard, nothing funky in my past ever. Any last words of advice?? Do's and don't? Anything you wished someone had told YOU? Tia!!!
