  1. Terrifying video shows the moment a minivan ploughed into a tractor-trailer making an outrageous rogue U-turn on a Florida highway last week — with all three people in the van killed and the truck’s illegal-migrant driver now charged with homicide. The roadway horror happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce when the tractor-trailer driven by suspect Harjinder Singh made a hard left turn across the highway and attempted to cross the median through an “official use only” pass, authorities said. The truck’s trailer blocked all of oncoming traffic’s lanes as it nosed over the median — with footage from inside its cab showing a black minivan driving toward it with no time to stop and nowhere to turn to avoid a collision. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer also was put out for him after it was determined that he’d been in the US illegally since 2018, when he crossed into the country over the Mexican border, CBS12 reported. He had been driving with a California commercial driver’s license. more at https://nypost.com/2025/08/17/us-news/illegal-migrant-driver-in-florida-make-rogue-u-turn-kills-3-officials/

  3. When a Louisiana family agreed to nurse a blind deer back to health, they were looking to do the right thing and didn't want any trouble. But that's exactly what they got last December. In 2018, a woman in Baton Rouge found a blind fawn that had been abandoned by its mother. The woman contacted Jen Sibley, who agreed to take care of the deer at her expansive property in Livingston Parish, reports WAFB, a local CBS affiliate. After finding the deer on the property, agents "seized the animal and euthanized it," according to WAFB. "My son's in tears," Sibley told WAFB. "I got him off the couch watching cartoons right before our family Christmas party to come tell his deer goodbye. They came and darted him. He was laying in his bedding area for 20 minutes. They shot him with a dart and then had to shoot him again." When a Louisiana family agreed to nurse a blind deer back to health, they were looking to do the right thing and didn't want any trouble. The deer, which the family affectionately named "Little Buck," eventually regained its health and lived with the Sibleys for seven years. Although Little Buck had a pen on the property, he was free to leave at any point but never did. On December 22, 2024, officials from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries showed up at the Sibleys' door after receiving an anonymous tip that Little Buck was living on the property. Louisiana law only allows individuals to possess in captivity "certain sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife"—which does not include deer—for up to 90 days. They shot him with a dart and then had to shoot him again." The family was then fined over $1,600. Trevor, Jaci's husband, was criminally charged with possessing the deer. Prosecutors ultimately declined to move the case forward and dropped the fine and criminal charge. The incident has outraged many, including Louisiana state Rep. Lauren Ventrella (R–Greenwell Spring). Ventrella tells Reason she can list countless reports of animals being confiscated in the area, including one case last week where a fawn was killed after being seized by a good Samaritan. more at https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/louisiana-wildlife-officials-killed-blind-210521669.html

  6. Two Hamtramck councilmen have been charged by a county prosecutor with election and absentee ballot fraud in 2023. Councilmen Mohammed Kamrul Hassan, 57, and Muhtasin Rahman Sadman, 26, each face several felony and misdemeanor charges for alleged criminal activity from July 7 to Nov. 7, 2023, a time period that includes both the August primary and November general elections in Hamtramck, in which Hassan and Sadman were running. The charges don't specify which of the two elections the alleged fraud involves. The charges were filed Friday, Aug. 8, in 31st District Court in Hamtramck by Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Yorkey, who was assigned to the case after Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel recused herself over perceptions of bias against Muslims. more about "it never happens" at https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2025/08/11/election-voter-fraud-charges-hamtramck-councilmen-mohammed-kamrul-hassan-muhtasin-rahman-safman/85608893007/

Zoo staff receive death threats after baboons culled and fed to lions Staff at a German zoo who culled a dozen healthy baboons and fed their remains to lions have received death threats. The Tiergarten Nuremberg zoo said it euthanised 12 Guinea baboons on 29 July because their enclosure had become too overcrowded, despite growing protests from activists and animal rights groups. Some of the baboons’ carcasses were used for scientific research, while others were fed to carnivores at the zoo, Tiergarten said. Zoo director Dr Dag Encke told Sky News that police were investigating after staff received threats. more at https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/tiergarten-nuremberg-zoo-germany-baboons-killed-b2803544.html
  12. MINNEAPOLIS – Today, United States District Judge Nancy E. Brasel sentenced Abdiaziz Shafii Farah, age 36, to 28 years in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for his role in a $300 million fraud scheme that exploited a federally funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson. Farah was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $47,920,514. Farah played a leading and role in the Feeding Our Future case, the largest Covid-19 fraud scheme in the United States. According to public documents, Farah and his co-defendants stole more than $47 million in program funds by claiming to serve 18 million meals to kids at more than 30 food distribution sites. In June 2024, after a seven-week trial before Judge Brasel, a federal jury convicted Farah of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery, false statements in a passport application, conspiracy to commit money laundering, two counts of federal programs bribery, six counts of wire fraud, and 11 counts of money laundering. Farah was the co-owner of Empire Cuisine & Market, an entity that he enrolled in the Federal Child Nutrition Program in April 2020, during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Farah was among the very first defendants to see an opportunity for fraud and exploit it. Farah immediately opened a number of fraudulent program sites and began falsely claiming to serve meals to thousands of children per day. Many of the purported “sites” served no meals at all and were nothing more than parking lots or vacant commercial spaces. more at https://www.justice.gov/usao-mn/pr/landmark-sentence-feeding-our-future-scheme-leader-sentenced-28-years-prison

  15. A woke school superintendent earning more than $424,000 per year is now using taxpayer funds to hire a personal bodyguard, it has emerged. She has come under fire for allegedly covering up a football recruitment scandal, withholding National Merit awards from students, and defying Title IX protections in girls sports, Fox News reports. The school board opted to renew her four-year contract last November and raised her salary $380,000 by nearly 12 percent. She was also awarded a $12,000 annual car allowance. more at https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/woke-school-superintendent-paid-424k-a-year-is-now-hiring-taxpayer-funded-bodyguard-on-143k-salary/ar-AA1JTHzI

  18. A zoo in Denmark is asking the public for donations of unwanted small pets or horses to feed its captive predators. "In zoos, we have a responsibility to imitate the natural food chain of the animals — in terms of both animal welfare and professional integrity," Aalborg Zoo said in a post on social media. The zoo in northern Denmark said that chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs were an important part of the diet of its predators, which need "whole prey," reminiscent of what they would hunt in the wild. "If you have a healthy animal that has to leave here for various reasons, feel free to donate it to us. The animals are gently euthanized by trained staff and are afterwards used as fodder. That way, nothing goes to waste — and we ensure natural behavior, nutrition and well-being for our predators," Aalborg Zoo said. more at https://www.cbsnews.com/news/denmark-zoo-donate-small-pets-horses-feed-captive-predators/
