  1. I would just go ahead and submit it anyway, they are often pretty fast to tell you if there is a problem. You can even put notes in the submission. When I sent in my marriage certificate, I was told it was not the right format. I then submitted it again, same one as before, and left a note with it, it was accepted.

I1R here with a CC of May 28th, 2019.  Haven't heard anything about an interview.  Looking at how things went last year (based on timelines on here), I am seeing a Oct/Nov interview but would be very happy to hear something soon.

That's very likely, July-September is vacation time. It sucks to move in the winter though, unless you are going somewhere warm.

Hi, we are in Kathmandu waiting for interview. NVC has all our documents (must assume such as they haven't asked for more since early june(2019).This process is going into the second year as of June. They don't answer the phone at NVC. We are rather in the dark.

I believe this thread is for Canadian applicants only.

  4. You may not reach CC yet. The email subject should be: Notice regarding your Immigrant Visa Case becoming Documentarily Qualified

    And the body:

The National Visa Center (NVC) received all of the fees, forms, and documents that are required prior to attending an immigrant visa interview at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate General overseas.

NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in MONTREAL, CAN to schedule an interview appointment for you. Once we have confirmed an interview date, we will send a notice to you, your petitioner and attorney (if applicable).

Please do NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until you have received an immigrant visa from the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General.

This is what I have done..,

    https://NVC.state.gov.interview

    ”prepare for interview “

under step 2, “list of US Embassies and Consulates”

    Chose Montreal

    step 1: Register your interview

    (goes to an external site)

I sign in, using my email and password

    Select IV Service: (choices below)

    - I need to register an immigrant visa appointment

    - I have received a letter/email from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment

    - I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a  K Visa appointment

    - I have received a letter to register or schedule a Diversity Lottery visa appointment

    I chose the first option

Next section titled “ New Applicant”, I fill out all my personal details including passport number, date of birth, phone number, email address, case number and DS-260 #.

At the end in green, I click “create Applicant”

Next screen shows “ The Immigrant VISA case number provided is not ready to schedule an appointment.”

    I am perplexed!!

Shouldn't you choose option 2? Your appointment is already scheduled, you are registering for the passport return? I'm just waiting for my interview to be scheduled so I haven't go through this yet. Someone who has done this before probably can help out.

You can yes, but if you have a health care card from whatever province you reside you should get your immunizations done for free. It could save you 500$+

Thanks! So I should just go to a doctor and ask for the 2 shots I need (TDAP and MMR) and get a record.

  7. I'm also collecting information on this. As I was born outside Canada, I have no records whatsoever. Is it possible to get the TDAP and MMR at Dr. Cheema's office while you have the exam? I thought that might be the easiest for someone like me. I guess I can confirm with the Dr's office while I schedule my exam.

Just following up on this thread since I’m sure I won’t be the only person in this situation in the future. I did call the CRA and was told I would still receive my tax return for the 2018 tax year and I received my full tax return benefit via direct deposit from claiming my foreign tuition tax credits as a student in the US.

If you’ve filled out TL11A forms as a student to claim foreign tuition credits as a student, you are still entitled to claim the benefit on taxes on Canadian income once you’ve left the country.

I got my green card last August. Stayed in Canada and worked until November 2018 before resigning and leaving permanently for the US. I called the CRA to advise them I left the country following that to cancel my GST cheques and provided my US tax information to my Canadian bank.

I filed my tax return for 2018 in March 2019 and tried to e-file. I found out you can only file through paper filing as a non-resident which delayed my return. After paper filing, CRA processed my return and I still got my full return with tuition tax credits included on both my employment income and the federal income tax taken from my cashed out pension lump sum payment.

Some of the guidance earlier in the thread may still apply to other situations, just not foreign tuition tax credits on Canadian income earned.

I hope this is helpful to anyone else who ends up reading this who has a similar situation.

Thanks for the great information and update! I assume medical insurance is similar? You should still be considered a resident as long as you live here, so you don't need to get insurance till you physically moved to U.S? Was that the case for you? Thanks again.

  9. As far as I know, Canadian side is not so strict, she should be able to stay in Canada without issues. Just to be safe, she can drive across the border before 6 month ends then come back. If she explains the situation at the border I think she will be fine. Before I (Canadian) married my husband (American), he lived in Canada with me most of the time for 3 years.

On another note, you two need to get married first before apply for CR-1

K1 Visas are different. They do not send anything to NVC, they bring all the docs CR1s typically first send to NVC direct to their interview. They are not reviewed by anyone prior to interview.

Edit - I see original comment is CR1 but these visa differences still get a bit confusing in this thread either way :)  And I think this also highlights the confusion between NVC and the actual consulate. They are not on the same page.

Thanks for the explanation! Now I know I'm not doing something wrong 😊 After reading through this long post, I am still not sure which police certificate to get. I'm not in a hurry to get to the interview stage so I think I'll wait out a bit.

Had my interview Yesterday. I hadn't received my RCMP certificate in time so i took the receipt for when i applied for it. The police certificate i had submitted was only valid till sep 11 so i had taken out a new police certificate and took the old expired one as well. They only matched my old one to the documents that were submitted. Did not care for the new polcie check or RCMP check for that matter. Just put down a note in their file that new police certificate submitted but old one is still valid. I believe the reason was that the old police certificate had been obtained in the past year and was still valid per their guidelines even though the certificate said it was only valid till Sep 11.

Can you actually have the interview without getting the police certificate first? It appears to me that you need to upload all Civil Documents to CEAC website first otherwise you can't move to the next step. I'm confused.

  12. Just curious about this. I got an email from NVC, saying the case is created (IR1). After I logged into https://ceac.state.gov/IV, I noticed that interview location is Montreal. I'm located in BC. So I guess Vancouver consulate doesn't do immigration interviews? Did anyone ever had the interview in Vancouver?

    Thanks!
