Kathryn41 reacted to nightingalejules in Medical Exam
Yes, it's an expensive process. And, no, your health insurance won't cover it, unless you need supplementary vaccinations and you get them before your medical. Otherwise, it's all out of pocket. Sucks, I know, but there's no getting around it.

Kathryn41 reacted to KayDeeCee in Green Card Status, how long must we maintain
You could also go ahead and file for ROC, get the 10 year green card and file for a re-entry permit. But that is only if you will be living abroad for less than 2 years. Otherwise, go with what Harpa suggested and give up the green card/residency and then file for a spousal visa if/when you plan to live in the US again. I believe you can turn in a green card with the USCIS by making an Infopass or at a US consulate abroad.

Kathryn41 reacted to Hypnos in Finally am forced to admit being scammed
My commiserations.
You weren't the first and you certainly won't be the last. Consult with a competent divorce lawyer, and you may even able to file for an annulment based on fraud depending on your state laws. That would be a question to ask the lawyer.
Protect yourself, protect your assets, and extricate yourself from the situation.

Kathryn41 reacted to Peikko in So sue me...
I know congress is meant to check the excesses that could be rought by one party having too much power, but I don't think the current situation was envisaged. If congress simply says no to anything proposed by the current president, that's obstruction, not a check. The president does have a mandate too, and he was elected because of that mandate. Sadly, this does demonstrate that the current political system is broken and needs fixed in some way, but probably not by eliminating congress.

I thought Obama was a sissy, mom jeans wearing wimp. How can he be a dictator and a wimp at the same time?

Kathryn41 got a reaction from C-ma'am in Married for 2 years but can't afford to file AOS until now
Please do not go abroad even though it means delaying seeing your family. You have been out of status for nearly 2 years now. If you leave the US, you will not be allowed back in and will incur a 10 year ban. You cannot use an Advance Parole travel document either, even though they will issue you one if you request it. You need to get your green card first before you can safely travel outside of the US. Once your green card is approved, any out of status time you have will be forgiven, and you can travel without worry about being denied re-entry. You are now able to apply, so it would be a shame to lose that opportunity when you are so close. You and your family just need to be a patient for a little while longer.
Good luck.

Kathryn41 got a reaction from TBoneTX in Email order bride - POE
I was assuming 'email order bride' referred to the title of the show he saw listed on netflix. While an inappropriate term, it is unfortunately, becoming more common to refer to internet initiated relationships as 'email order brides' in contrast to the more familiar 'mail order bride' designation referring to women met through international dating sites The entertainment media these days doesn't seem overly concerned with social propriety but just with gaining financial and viewer support and the use of emotionally coloured descriptions like this helps fill those coffers.

But I am supposed to be CABA too . . in fact, Canada leads the pack! You know, if you keep making exceptions like this, people will begin to suspect that there is really nothing to this CABA designation . . .

You need to put the visit to family and friends in the back burner for now. Use that plane ticket and file for AOS asap. Good luck

serious suggestion - stagger your guests' arrival. ask gump and family to come a bit later than your friends so that a) your friends get to eat first (ensuring they get to eat at all) and b) you get some gump-free time with your friends. even an hour would make a difference i'm sure.

Kathryn41 reacted to belinda63 in Out of ideas on how to prove country ties for visa
Anyone applying for a non-immigrant visa to the US is considered to have immigrant intent and it is up to the person apply to prove otherwise. She is in a demographic that is well-known for not returning at the end of the visit. Not her fault but the fault of all the other young women who did this.
About the only thing she could provide that would be good proof would be a spouse/children who were not travelling with her. Mother was approved because she is settled there and there is little reason for her to want to move to the US. Why would she leave all her friends or other family to live in a strange country? Daughter has every reason to stay in the US. Better jobs, spouse, better life.

Please remember that this process if frustrating for everyone. It is alright to vent, but you need to be aware that venting may trigger responses that you don't necessarily want to hear. Freedom of speech goes both ways -and as Visa Journey is a private site, is subject to restriction by the Terms of Service. Instead of getting upset and responding, please give the benefit of the doubt to those who vent and respond, and try not to introduce any additional - and unnecessary - stress or discord into an already stressful situation.
Moderator hat off . . .
It may be useful for all concerned to remember that delays of immigration related benefits started long before the current administration was elected - and until immigration policies are drastically reformed - will continue long after the current administration ends. The problem is not with the President - it is with legislation that is in drastic need of reform and creates a process that has long been in need of repair. It was like this when I started my immigration journey 11 years ago and it is still like this. If you want to see things change, then encourage your elected officials to support a comprehensive overhaul of the whole immigration process and stop the partisan power politics that is more interested in throwing up roadblocks than working together for the good of our country.

Kathryn41 reacted to Darnell in problem getting my SSN
OK - go back in with
your passport
your printed I-94
tell the clerk you are a K-1 visa holder, and ask that they look you up in your VISA name and VISA A# in the SAVE database system. Show them the VISA.
If the clerk seems incompetent on this one thing,
ask for the supervisor.
And never, ever apply (the first time) in your new married name - as that'll trigger a DHS Verification process that you NOT have time for.
[print out my one reply here, take it with you, and hammer hammer hammer until the clerk allows you to apply in VISA Name]
GO BACK the next day and either:
--you'll learn of the number or
--you'll learn of SAVE database errors that trigger a DHS Verification process.

SSA employees are some of the most incompetent you will find working for a government agency.
Get information together and bring it to them and show them how to do their jobs.

Kathryn41 reacted to Girl from Celebes in problem getting my SSN
Like Darnell asked, what date you POE was? SSA office employees are not accepted application if it less than 2 weeks of I-94 is going to expire.
I am sorry but they won't accepted the application if your I-94 is going expired less than 2 weeks.
