I'm old school like that too. I believe that the sexes are different, but equal. When I hold the door open for my wife, I do it out of respect, not because she can't do it herself.

In this context sexism is talking to women in a demeaning way.

Actually, Spooky, I was over it, and I am over it, but YOU are the one that brings it up constantly. You like to make fun of me for it, and have done it repeatedly.
I am not ashamed for speaking out about it, I said my piece, and I am done. You are the one who is not over it, and who is stretching it far beyond what it meant. I am just explaining myself, since you are asking about it.
And why do I take offense? Because this forum has a problem with sexism. There are a bunch of men who talk about how American women are bad and evil, and talk about how to get a docile women, and speak of them like dog breeds. And I will stand against that shite again and again. That's why. Not because I particularly care what that poster, whoever he is, thinks about me or "maybe me."
(You might take note that the whole thing was also designed to make people go, "ooh! am I one of the good women or the bad ones! I hope the man will tell me what group I am in! I hope he likes me!")

OK fair enough. A couple of points:
First, I've known MBD since 2004, he's one of the oldest members here, as am I. However, great suggestion that I have a penchant for chiming in on his posts on an "almost daily basis" is factually incorrect. I rarely reply to his posts, whether I agree with then or not. It simply isn't true.
Second, yes I do insult people. Because some people deserve to be insulted for the views that they hold. Misogynists, racists, homophobes, fascists etc. They all deserve to be insulted. However insulted by holding their feet to the fire in relation to what they post. I am offended, for example, by people who glorify violence and the death penalty as being a civilised means of dealing with offenders.
The thread I posted that caused all the ruckus was about the disposable attitude the justice system has to youth offenders, giving them outrageous jail terms in institutions where rape and murder are commonplace. Once again, I'm offended by the 'lock them up and throw away the key' attitude. An attitude that justifies institutional brutality.
Third, I an clearly not a Hamas supporter. I think a reasonable person could conclude that if I oppose the death penalty, violent abuses in prisons and the attitude that people deserve what they get, it's probably a fair bet that I'm not going to support a group of violent extremists.
That of course doesn't mean that I don't understand where the extremism cones from or Israels role in exacerbating it.

No you cannot work, and it is unlikely you will be allowed to. On the first day you must do your tax forms in which you also need to provide proof of legal status. You cannot do that, you'll likely lose the job. talk to your HR department, be honest with them.
    Good luck

The immigration journey is both challenging and frustrating, and makes lots of emotional demands on each of us. People react to stress in different ways so please try to be tolerant of those who are having challenges at any step in the process. If you cannot post something constructive, then please do not contribute to the discussion. Is is also important to remember not to bite the hand that is trying to offer you advice even though you are feeling stressed. You may not agree with what is offered, but please try to remember we are all of us fragile during this process and may react inappropriately because this journey is so important and we are worried or afraid about things going wrong.

One more post violating TOS has been removed, not because a Moderator "didn't like the wording" but for the same reason the other two posts were removed: it included a derogatory name deemed to be a 'bait' to upset other posters and keep the controversy roiling.

Kathryn41 reacted to Harpa Timsah in DCF London: when the first notification?
How can a LPR do DCF? To do DCF, the petitioner has to be residing in the foreign country for at least 6 months. And to be a LPR, one has to maintain residency in the US and generally cannot be out of the US for long periods. The technical limit is a year, but anytime over 6 months can be used to determine if you have abandoned residency in the US.
They seem like they contradict one another.

Well, for the sake of speculation, even if the US offers an amnesty to undocumented aliens and allows them to apply for immigration benefits, why should this mean you no longer pay for the immigration benefits you are requesting and receiving? An amnesty only allows for an opportunity to apply - which undocumented aliens do not have at this time. It does not provide them 'free' processing or 'free' benefits. They would still have to pay the costs involved - and for certain circumstances will most likely also be required to pay penalties in addition to the costs, the same as anyone else requesting a benefit.
You are using an immigration service. You pay a fee to request the service. If the service is granted, great. If the service is denied, not so great, but you don't get your money back because they have done the work you requested; the answer wasn't what you wanted, but you still got the service - the review of the request for the immigration benefit.
I think you are mixing up apples and oranges. You already have the ability to apply for an immigration benefit and you are paying the requisite fees necessary to obtain a desired benefit. Amnesty would merely grant those who currently do not have the right to apply for an immigration benefit, the opportunity to request an immigration benefit. It won't be given to them free of cost and they, like everyone else, will pay a fee for the service and any user fees in order to obtain any benefits for which they may now qualify.
Nothing has been taken away from you, nor anything given to someone else at a reduced or cheaper cost than you are paying. Why would you get any money back? As Judge Judy likes to say - "you've eaten the steak; you pay the check". Amnesty means that those who have been hovering around the garbage bins in the back yard trying to scrounge something to eat will now be allowed to order from the menu - and pay for that order.

It is a good idea to remember that every couple is a separate entity to USCIS and every interview will also be unique. While many may just be asked a few questions, others may have to provide as much validating evidence as they can to satisfy the interviewer.
The wisest course of action is the plan and prepare for a rigorous interview and end up taking home all of your evidence unseen, rather than expect an easy go and then have to prove the validity of the relationship to a suspicious Immigration Officer.
You do need to take evidence that shows you have a bona fide marriage and not one entered into for the sake of gaining immigration benefits. What can be used is quite open ended, especially as newlyweds may not yet have obtained a lot of the documentary evidence that those married for a longer time have. Still, it doesn't mean that you don't gather what you can and take it with you. A letter from your parent verifying that you live with them and their knowledge of your relationship is one suggestion. You can still open up a joint account. Hank is right - joint accounts aren't 'necessary', but they are useful to show that you are co-mingling even your limited assets at this time. Kitthekat did offer some very good suggestions about what you can bring.
Good luck at your interview and I hope it is one of the easy ones such as Hank mentioned.

US Permanent residents are treated the same as US citizens rather than as citizens of their home country when visiting Canada. Since US citizens do not need visas to enter Canada, US Permanent Residents do not either, even if citizens from that country normally need visas. Bring your green card and your Serbian passport - and enjoy your visit to Canada . It's a beautiful country!

Nope..Consulate will not care! I was able to get EI as a Military guy....which can be hard to do as well, as we have a contract...I initially got denied..but appealed and won......But I think (don't know for certain) one can't quit too far in advance. If one does, then they could deny ones claim...and you could appeal. Now and then, one has to do what is best for you. Yes AP does not hapen to many Cdns, but it does happen. Especially if you were born in one of the countries that isnt on good terms with the USA. And have seen it with people that have certain education degrees--ones dealing with chemicals. All the best
