  1. Quick question - what's the urgency around getting the green card if you already have employment authorisation and advance parole? Is it just more reassurance around getting back in the country if you go abroad? Or am i missing something?

You are a permanent resident meaning that you get more benefits and more laws will protect you. You can work anywhere without worrying about it. One of the things I did last Thursday--as soon as I got my GC--was to go to the SS Administration to remove "Valid for Work only with DHS Authorization". Basically, that means that there is no restriction. Another reason is that most states will only give you a driver's licence as long as you Work Permit is valid. You can also qualify for Federal and State benefits. Financial aid to go to college and more.

  2. I hdidn't master's degree, and used my f1patienceand b2 visa time to network like craat. When I got back I had a few nights out with some of my contacts. Got a few beers in them and got then to spread the word. Within about a week I interviewed for 6 jobs and was offered all of them. Picked the one with the best title, best money and pretty good hours even though I am salaried.

It is all about confidence. Being a great social drinker with good contacts always helps.

I didn't apply for one single job..

Have patience and faith, you will find something. Just remember everytime you are out at a bar, local event, or even church it is your opportunity to network with someone who can help you. Heck I am not even nearly religious, but the contact who got me in the door for the job I have does, and I met him there when I decided to go to a service for a christening. Every person you meet could potentially be your golden ticket.

Thanks for sharing. I'm in the same boat as the previous poster. I got my green card two days ago, and I've been applying like crazy. I get discourage because is so hard. I've had only one recruiter contact me since I got my work permit three weeks ago. But I have been thinking about along those lines to go to meetings and things like around the bay area, CA. I may need to talk to some people at the church I'm going to right now (some of them work for eBay and Apple).

  3. Do you think so? Because I'm gonna start working on Monday and I really need my SSN ASAP. So should I got tomorrow morning and at least try? I don't wanna waste any time. Thank you

You should go tomorrow. Although, you won't get the SSN card right there. It took a whole week to get mine. You could ask if they can give you the number assigned to you--if it's possible.

  4. Heading out for my interview :)

You'll do fine. We had our interview Tuesday, and we were approved the same day. Just heads up, when they order your card, it will show at the last step. Then, when thy mail the letter, it will go back to decision. Don't freak out if you see that. As long as it says that your card was registered, you are good.

Congrats to everyone getting updates on their cases!

  5. On August 6, 2014, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it won't really take 30 days right? :P

Congrats, You should be getting your card by next Wednesday, if not sooner. It took a week for me to get the EAD once they ordered it.

  6. We had our interview yesterday, and everything went well. We were approved later that day. We got a notification after two hours of our interview saying that they had ordered our "Green Card". We are happy about it.

    Few things to note:

-They won't keep your originals if you have copies of each. They just want to see the originals. We made copies and handed it over.

-Make sure that your petitioner(spouse) have the last two pay check stubs for the last two recent months. We presented June and July.

-Make sure that you have the most current work letter. We got hers from work two weeks ago.

-We brought the taxes just in case, but we didn't need them.

-We presented utility bills under both of our names, car insurance, titles, apartment lease, credit card statement showing that we both are under it.

Overall, we had a very pleasant interview. The officer was even joking with us when were going to his office. Ask for our IDs and passport, i-94, went over i480 and i130. We showed him pictures of our wedding and with our families. It was a very natural conversation. we talk about our relationship (how we met). Where her parents live, if we plan to have kids. We left like we wanted to tell more about our story, but I know he had other interviews.

Today, I got a notification saying that they "had registered [my] new permanent resident status." It's weird because yesterday was in Car/Production--which is the last step--and today is in Decision which is the middle.

Good luck to all of you!

  7. I received an update on a Wednesday saying they had "ordered" my card. Monday of the following week I got a text that USPS had picked it up. Then, it only takes two days. You do get a tracking number that can be found by inputing the receipt number on uscis.gov

Hey everyone, so I got my text/email updates that my EAD/AP card were approved, does anyone know how long does it usually take for it to arrive through mail? Do they send an email or something with a tracking number or do you just get it in the mail?
    Hopefully everyone is doing good!

  8. Hello everyone,

I've been following this forum since early May. USCIS received my application on April 28. However, I did not get my "Notice of Action" until May 16 (I had to call them). Received my Bio-metrics letter on May 22. I did early walk in on May 23. On June 6, I received a yellow letter saying I forgot to sign my medical form. It said that I will receive a RFE or to bring it to the interview. July 3, I received an email saying that I'm scheduled for an interview on August 5. I also have my EAD which I received July 16.

I have my AOS interview tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous, but also confident that our testimony and documents will be enough for us to show that we are legit. We've been married 10 months today.

I have the following documents that we are bringing to the interview:

    Originals:

    The interview letter received

    Both of our Birth Certificates

    Marriage Certificate

    IDs

My current Passport (Don't have the one with the Visa, only a copy. Hopefully not a big deal)

    My i-94

    Sealed Form i-693 Medical Examination

    Supporting documents for our marriage:

    2011-2013 Taxes

    Work Letter from Human Resources

    Last two Paycheck stubs

    Bank statements

    Car insurance

    Health Insurance

Form stating I'm the beneficiary in case she would die (HR from work)

    Comcast Bill, Credit Card statement

    Pictures

Copy of our Previous Lease/termination letter and our new lease agreement

Copy of both our cars registered under our names

Copy of her SSN showing her new last name

Hoping for the best tomorrow. I will update to see how it goes. I'm going to San Jose, CA office.

  9. I confirmed with them that they sent the application to the Chicago lockbox. Although, they are saying that is taking longer than usual, I see many getting a response in like 2 to 3 weeks. The money order was paid to "U.S Department of Homeland Security". It has been a month now. No response. I'll wait this week until Thursday. If I don't get anything, I will call USCIS customer service to see what's going on.

  10. If you sent it directly to CSC then you sent it to the wrong place, and this is likely the reason for the delay. CSC may have routed it to either the Lockbox or NBC directly for you as a courtesy, or the package may be returned to you.

Thanks for your reply. We used an agency to fill out the paperwork. However, I'm not sure where they sent it. Assuming that they sent it to the Lockbox, is this wait time still ok? From what I've seen from others, they had a response in like 15 days or so.

  11. Hi,

On April 11, we sent an application for adjustment of status based on marriage. It has been 30 days, and we have not received anything yet. We did not include a personal check or the form that let's you know when they received it. At this point, we don't know what's going on. I believe this application was sent to the California center and not the lock box in Chicago. Should we be concerned about it? We are thinking about calling the National Customer Service this coming Monday.
