  1. I just I.... so many thoughts about this story. I've seen claims that the military thought it was a UFO so why bother anyone about that?????!! To a whole host of other things. I've got to believe at any time a weird craft flies into our territory and we notice it, that someone is told about it.. so I don't think we're getting the full story here. If commercial pilots noticed our currently downed balloon as it was drifting along, then there's got to be members of the public that noticed the others because there's people that notice this junk all the time. It does not look too different from a balloon spotted in Japan a few years back. The odd thing they're saying now is that they cannot confirm or deny there wasn't some kind of explosive mechanism on the craft, which I guess makes sense why you'd not want to knock that down on land. I am not really concerned about potential intel collection that others might yell about, because I'm confident that we had tech to mess with that. It would not have collected much of anything. We pretty much followed it all the way until it's final pop. The whole thing to me smacks of incompetence and unreadiness on the one hand... and just it's stupid on the other. I mean can you imagine a group of hardcore generals walking into Xi and saying "hey sir, we have a great idea... I mean we have lots of spying tech and satellites to watch the Americans but man balloons that will really mess with them!" I did find the object fascinating in wondering how it actually works and how we came up with a way to pop it. It just seems like it's a stupid and useless thing for the Chinese to do when they have better options available to them.
  2. Everything I'm seeing this morning is saying it's just not so easy to get this thing down. Lots of military guys arguing about potential possibilities and what could go wrong. If the goal is to point out we're not as great with capability as it seems, well... twitter.com/cobraball3 has a lot of interesting discussion going on.
  3. Why is the act of marriage more important? Stability of family comes higher income? Ummm... not so that I have ever been aware of. I mean my grandma never had to want for anything.. she married a poor guy, and he did very well because he had the smarts and ability, and she came from a wealthy family anyway. But my dad was always poor. Getting married did not change his poorness, nor did it ever provide stability to this family. Yes I got married and yes we are both very happy with each other, but that happiness has not changed since we first knew each other. Did we need a piece of paper to change that? Does any person really? We got married because we still believe in vows, and because that's what was required. We know many people that are desperate for marriage as if it's the cure to all woes, without realizing it would be better to perhaps examine the strength of the relationship to begin with, and choosing the right type of person.
  4. I have heard that we can't shoot it down because of the risk to individuals below..... it's Montana... I mean... whatever. Can we pinpoint exactly if it really is in a populated area? I've seen some radar reports that show we have a lot of stuff up there surrounding it, so it is doubtful it's been able to collect anything useful... scientists have plotted it's originating trajectory, and some suspect that they used a unique weather pattern setup to get it here. Kind of risky in it's chances, so it's a wonder how it got so far. I've also heard that it is somewhere around 90k feet. This supposedly provided some challenges, as requiring F22s to monitor rather than other units, and I don't know if it's true, as I haven't got my grandfather's military aviation geek skills, some kind of treaty involving international airspace above a certain altitude? FWIW, the reports indicate that POTUS wanted it gone, but the generals said no? Still skeptical as to the excuse why... There is an additional balloon that will reach us soon on the same path. I am sure that there is all sorts of these things in the sky we don't know about... I still have fond memories of the giant military spy blimp accident in 2015. We hated the stupid looking costly thing (it looked like a giant piece of anatomy).. and it ended up getting loose and going all over the place.
  5. It's a terrible idea and not implemented well at all. The husband was pretty upset about it and if they don't backtrack he may pull our subscription. BTW, we do not piggyback or share the password with anyone. We've had netflix for years, but at times it's getting harder to justify the increasing price compared to other services. We do tend to use it while on the go and vacationing, and their ideas of restrictions is really upsetting to him. A similar situation happened once in an mmorpg, where a good many players would actually play abroad while on working trips, at friend's houses, or in a cafe. Then came a crackdown, and they'd block accounts because they were in ''different locations''. You'd have to call them and go through a stupid process to get it unlocked. Did you move house? Buy a new pc? Go on a trip? Well you'd need to call and be on hold for a few hours with an annoyed person while they invaded your privacy. Eventually the company realized it was a stupid idea.
  6. Personally? I tend to hate the whole bothsides perspective, where one side says "well the other side does it.... and we do it too ..and we're too scared to do the right thing". You'd think taking out the trash would be popular if the party were actually interested in doing the right thing for themselves and their constituents. Why don't they worry about cleaning up their side, and actually see if it produces favorable results in voters that have restored faith and confidence, that they aren't a bunch of muppets. If you are so focused on the fire somewhere else, eventually you won't see your own house burning down. I think a lot of people lie. But this guy seems to be out on a unique limb of lying, which makes his motivations more suspicious than average.
  7. I think a guy that has lied about every aspect of his life in order to get elected would make his voters angry - especially if those voters voted for him because they thought he was Jewish (he's not, and has made nasty comments), making claims about 9-11, if they voted for him because they thought he was opposed to drag queens (while enjoying being one himself), the large amount of money that seems to be shady, and because they thought he had not committed any crimes (which is a bit iffy now..). How can a voter believe he will be for their causes? I'm sure some might even think he's a democrat plant if they are conspiratorially minded. Others might get on a birther train. This is the sort of nonsense that goes on with the politicians in my town.. Perhaps if Congress had some courage about morality and ethics among their ranks, they would expel him. Of course they would not do that, because his political companions would have to face the reality of very angry voters choosing a replacement that might not be helpful.
  8. Well to 'fix' this problem.. if it is really a problem, the country would have to make fundamental cultural changes, and I don't see that happening. So while the government can complain about it, they will do nothing to actually 'help'.
  9. I for some reason just always naturally assumed that POTUS and VP's would have access to this sort of stuff. You can see it happening, especially if these individuals may be working from any location, including their homes at any given time. You can't tell me that Cheney didn't have classified documents laying around somewhere. Still... I think we need a better process for this stuff. It's irresponsible to have it laying around at any location. Can we not enact a better process of ensuring these documents do not get moved where they shouldn't be? And if we did, what should be that process, and how would it work?
  10. I think the biggest plus about non gas stoves is... as my husband puts it, the house can't potentially blow up and you don't have an open flame. I then recount my tales of tiny child me standing on a stool cooking at a gas stove unattended to remind him there were multiple ways I could have injured myself and still turned out ok. I have no issues with electric, but didn't have much issue with gas either. The quality of the appliance though, is the thing that's gone downhill. Our electric stove has had a broken sensor for years. A good stove should have a Shabbat setting, that's probably one feature I like the most about electric. Just avoid Samsung, they come from the pit of hell.
  11. Good luck to the prosecution on this one. He'll fight this out and it'll be a huge thing on TV probably. Are the charges right? Yeah probably, but I have a weird feeling a jury will be sympathetic as he blames the armorer for everything. Interesting that one of them took a plea deal.
  12. I don't really understand that either.... but then again I have seen multiple people in my town with no plates or made up piece of cardboard with gibberish on it. He looks military to me.
  13. FWIW, I have read the book and it's nothing like the press has made it out to be. Honestly? One of the best books I've read in a while, from a very good ghostwriter. And I've loaned it out to family members that are interested. There is lengthy stuff about his time in the military, a lot about his upbringing, and of course trauma. There is a section on his relationship and marriage to his wife which I found just as nice as the documentary really. I am happy that he's happy. For those that aren't thrilled about the monarchy in the first place it will be an eye-opener. Pro-monarchists will be upset, but well, if that is the sort of people you're happy with having as a ruler... *shrug* Still, he makes no claims or insults against his grandparents, and it's clear where his grievances lay. I imagine there will be more books in the future, based upon how successful he has been.
  14. Me and my husband grew up with gas in the house. I don't even honestly recall if we had a monitor installed. I'm not sure if you've guys actually have taken a look at the study in question but it is interesting as it's nothing to do about poisoning but other chemicals getting into the air and causing asthma, lung damage, and other effects. Now I lived in a house built in the 40s/50s.. it had a super fan with a chain and it would suck the living daylights out of anything in that kitchen instead of a range hood. In my husband's house they really didn't have any proper ventilation, and on several occasions he recalls C02 problems and feeling sickly. That issue also happens a lot in the city, because of very old buildings, bad infrastructure. People get blown up and die from poisoning all the time. But this study really is talking about effects that build up over time with regard to breathing and other health problems. Maybe it's a contributing factor? Who knows. It would seem, proper ventilation and monitors would certainly assist those with gas stoves. Simple steps rather than giant leaps. FWIW, neither one of us came out with asthma, but we do have others with asthma in our families and do have allergy issues.
  15. My opinion will likely not be accepted or popular. I simply would like to know why there was a reason to shoot this individual that many times? I would also like to know why the person then left the scene of the crime?
  16. Our winter storm experience was disappointing. It had rained the day before, so when the cold came and near hurricane force winds, we had sheets of ice forming on the doors and windows, but no snow at all. The wind and cold was brutal.. it's been a long time I can remember it being this cold. At some point it was 2 degrees and -25 windchill. The heat pump was useless, and everyone got electric blankets this Christmas to stay warm. I have no idea what we would have done if we had lost power... honestly shocked we did not.
  17. I have watched this and it was quite the topic of discussion this Christmas. It's not nearly as sensational as the media hype machine (you'd have thought Harry had offed the entire royal family and pooped on Winston Churchill's grave or something) claimed. Clear that he's incredibly bitter and protective of his family, he's grown up in dysfunction and abuse, and he's trying to get control over the narrative of his life, which is not too strangely different from other royals in the past. It is also clear they are very much in love with each other, and I found that whole thing to be touching enough. Always bothersome why people get so offended about people in love. I have known my husband twenty years or so, have been married quite some time now, and we still love each other deeply. I remember people always bitterly talking about a 'honeymoon phase' and that eventually somehow all married couples settle into boredom and hatred or that showing affection is gross. I suppose I can see that with my own parents sure, but I know so many of my own generation that are happy and content with their spouses. They aren't afraid to love or show it. We've only got one life to live, afterall. I'm happy for the two of them. I've got a lot of theories about what Harry is really angry about... but it seems it's all to do with the brother and his father. I've heard the rumours over the years.
  18. That's in Baltimore County. Nothing to do with Baltimore City. 😉 Also there's a lot of context missing from an article that then goes on to complain about someone else in some other state. TikTok is a cesspool of people doing crazy to get attention. And sure indoctrination is great. That's why people send kids to a religious school of their choosing with curriculum of their choosing. If people don't like the brand of indoctrination at one school, I'd suggest parents make the effort to send their kids to a place of accepted indoctrination, or teach them themselves.
  19. She died of colon cancer. Once again reminding everyone that when its time for your screening, get it done. Even if you feel embarrassed. If caught early, it will save your life! Colon cancers are affecting younger persons more and more, especially in age groups that are not covered for routine screening. If you have a family history, discuss it and your doctor will help get it authorized. My mom has been in remission for many years, but it was a struggle to get there. Actor Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer, around the same age as a friend of our family. In both of the cases, these younger men did not realize until it was too late. They would not have been eligible to be routinely screened unless they had symptoms or a family history... so that's why its very important to pay attention to your intestinal health. It is the third leading cause of cancer death in young adults. https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/colorectal-cancer-in-young-people Ryan Reynolds recently had his life-saving screening done. The sad thing is because of Alley's religious practices, she likely did not receive treatment or screening that would have saved her life.
  20. My Cyber Monday find was buying something from Kohls on Friday, and rolling over to enough cashback to get lots of free stuff. Walked in the store at 9pm (to avoid crowds), and walked out 40 mins later with a basket of free. Cashier looked annoyed. Also realizing that my husband's best friend gave us a very generous gift card that paid for an enormous amount of presents elsewhere. Still, prices are up quite a bit.. two out of the three board games finally made it off the boat, but doubt I'll get the last one until January.
  21. Is this like the couple that is suing Barilla because they thought that meant the product was made in Italy? https://www.npr.org/2022/10/27/1131731536/barilla-pasta-sued-alleged-false-advertising-made-in-italy-lawsuit I guess if there's a lawyer that will take their money... then there will always be one of these cases.
