  1. thanks, yes we will no go 18 months out to the day, probably 16 to 17 so we have a buffer. but its interesting that immigration tracks that in detail. i guess its all in an INS computer somewhere
  2. thanks for the info. so i need to start a log of all our travel starting from when she got the GC. fortunately this year we've only been out of the country for a week so far so we have time in the bank so to speak.
  3. my wife would like to start her N400 ASAP which since she's married to me, a USC, I think is 3 years after granting of her green card right? we like to travel a lot. we're going to Thailand soon for 4 month and then Europe next summer for 2 month. I assume the physical presence is based on calendar year? So in 2025 we'll be gone Jan Feb Mar, then June July, and back to Thailand Dec, so right up against the 6 month limit. How strict is USCIS on the 6 month per year rule?. I read this "(absences of more than six months but less than one year shall disrupt the applicant's continuity of residence unless the applicant can establish that he or she did not abandon his or her residence during such period) ". how would we 'establish that he or she did not abandon his or her residence during such period' if we went a bit over? I'd like to do a quite trip to Canada next year too but would skip it if its a problem. These are all vacations, not moving abroad. We're retired so its what we do. I should add we own our house in NY and have no plans to move. My wife has family in Thailand and I have family in UK hence the reason for extended visits. She's only had her GC for 1 year so I'm just planning ahead at this point. thanks
  4. that's crazy. i think we can all guess where USCIS staff will be redeployed this time around
  5. my predication is he'll massively cut funding for USCIS resulting in waiting times going from months and years, to decades. what do you all think?
  6. so i'd like to add my wife's kids as contingent beneficiary on my US accounts. i think the process for them would be easier if they has an ITIN. both kids live in Thailand, never been to the US and likely never will. i saw this https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/obtaining-an-itin-from-abroad am i correct in thinking all they need is a W-7 application and their passports and i can do it for them? no filing tax returns or anything like that? thanks
  7. its back to normal now, i guess just a weekend update thing
  8. if its still that way next week i'll call the 800 number and ask.
  9. yes, i'm at my.uscis.gov same site i've used for years
  10. hi, i'm sure i'm in the wrong section but not sure where is the right one. anyhow, i went to uscis.gov today and i can't see how to get to my account details anymore. when i go my account/home all i see is a bunch of links to things like change address etc. before i would see all my open and closed cases and their current status. any idea where to find that now? thanks
  11. my wife did arrive on a B1 visa and did an AOS i called USCIS already and they will call me back within 72hrs to schedule an appointment
  12. GC was sent while we were away from home for a few months. someone was supposed to be hanging on to our mail but they did a bad job. since USCIS never told us it was sent (and i kept calling to ask) we didn't know to ask that person to be on the lookout for it. yes, AOS approved Dec14 last year yes, we moved, now in NY was approved in NC yes did e-request for I90 yes I765 and I131 was approved last year i'll call USCIS today and ask about the ADIT I551 thing
  13. so i looked at the i-155 stamp thing a bit, do i need to call USCIS set up an appointment then get the stamp at the local USCIS office? how long does all that typically take?
  14. hi, my wife's green card never arrived and the USCIS never sent any notification or tracking number or anything. so i filed a I-90, she just dd the biometrics appointment again and now USCIS say it will up to take 16 months to decide if she gets a replacement! anyhow, what's the process for getting a temporary card so can at least travel. and will it really take 16 months? thanks
  15. i moved to my new permanent address and filed a change of address with USCIS. its been 2 months since the account said " card was produced" and still nothing. how far is the post office from the printing center? how can it possibly take this long to put something in the mail?
  16. hi, my wife's GC was approved dec 8th and "produced" on dec 14th. the letter says it could be up to 90 days to get the actual GC in the mail, anyone know the average time? thanks
  17. how long does it take for status to be updated on her USCIS account? i checked today and there is nothing to indicate the approval
  18. He's trustworthy but very busy and I worry he might forget something, but I think it will be ok. So long as my wife's signature not needed I guess it will be fine. Thanks
  19. I have a tenant in my house can in theory send it to me but he's pretty flaky. Maybe I should just file a change of address then?
  20. Hi, my wife just got approved, yeah!!!! So I guess the USCIS sends the actual green card USPS registered mail, signature required right? Problem is we not going to be home for a few months, wintering down south but in the US. I don't want to register a new address since it's not a permanent move. What do you think I should do? Should I ask the post office to forward my mail to my current address? Thanks
  21. thanks. i just found what i need on the IRS website, i guess i just print that out we've been married nearly 20 years so i'm hoping not too much issues with bonafied marriage
  22. hi, i already submitted my I-864, Affidavit of Support and support docs like my social security benefit notice. the interview notice says to bring my recent tax return, is i ok i just take a copy of the one i filed with the IRS or do i need to get a certified IRS printout? thanks
  23. hi, i applied for AOS I485 for my wife 2 years ago this month. still waiting, USCIS says they are processing. anyhow we have the I131 parole thing and we want to get away for the winter for 3-4 months. options are go back to Thailand (wife's home country) or go to Mexico. I was thinking MX because quick and easy to get back if an interview date comes up but then i thought, easier to explain away a long trip to Thailand because need to spend time with family. what would be the better option for avoiding issues coming back, or do you think no issues to worry about? thanks
  24. we've been waiting over a year for AOS, I485 interview. we just filed 2022 joint tax return, is it worth uploading that to my wife's support documents as addition proof that we are still together? thanks
