  1. Ok so I just checked with all the application numbers I could find and one number worked. and the status has nothing there. it just says this:

On April 11, 2016, we received your Form CRI-89, Petition to Remove Conditions of Permanent Resident Status Received, Receipt Number WAC*****857, and sent you the receipt notice that describes how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your receipt notice by May 11, 2016, please call Customer Service at 1-800-375-5283. If you move, go towww.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

This doesn't mean anything! I already did the biometrics and the letter just said that I have another year extension...

    Anyone?

  2. This is a dumb question but how did you check your status online? I have tried entering all the numbers on the NOA1 after getting approved for the extension on April 11, 2016. I also tried the application numbers on the biometrics letter which I did on May 6th, 2016.

I have not received any updates yet and I have gotten no where by calling USCIS. No one seems to be able to track anything by any of these application numbers. Its just been so long since Ive applied for the ROC. I have not moved, haven't gone anywhere. I check my mail on time but still there is nothing.

How did you check your status online? Meaning what application number did you use ?

  3. So I also had my interview today. It was not bad at all. I mean I think I was panicking WAY too much for this. I am SOO SOO grateful to have found this site though because without it, I wouldn't have been able to prepare everything that I did. Our interview was in Indianapolis. The lady interviewing us called me in first and then she called in my husband after (we were never together in the same room at one time). I believe the Indianapolis office likes to do separate interviews.

When I went in, she asked me to take the oath and then get started. I noticed that she had all the documents I had mailed in an accordion binder (the two hole punched at the top, I remember how much I looked up online figuring out which binder to use!) Anyway, so after the oath she started asking me questions from the I-485. After that she asked me THE QUESTION! "How did you two meet?" I went on and said the name of the specific website we met at and at this point she was writing down notes super fast. She took the name of the site, asked me the month we met and then if met online, when did we physically meet in person. She was nice, smiling and seemed to expect me to dive right in to the story. I explained the story with a timeline and she kept writing events for each month ... first met, parents, engagement.

And she also asked, when was the last time I entered US ? Was I inspected. She asked to see my passport and verified the I-94 number. She confirmed that whether I was in the country on a TN visa before I met my husband. I said yes. Then I started talking about our honeymoon, went on to show pictures and she had the pictures I mailed with my application which she asked if she can keep. Then she asked if there's anything I'd like to give her as proof of relationship. I gave her our updated tax papers. I gave her husband's life insurance papers ... baby ultrasound pictures... and I think thats it. Then after about 10 mins, she took outside and asked my husband to go in. She asked him just the dates to I guess verify if we were on the same page. and he came out in 5 mins... he didn't even tell me what she asked him. He thinks I'm obsessing because she gave him a piece of paper saying that I will recommend your case for approval. Then after 2-3 hours I got a text and this is what it says and can someone please tell me what it all means???

On May 8, 2014, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision.

    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???

  4. The other thing I find extremely bizarre in this country is:

YOU CANNOT DEDUCT Student loans expenses from your taxes AND you can only deduct the interest portion which is also capped for individuals making over $130K. So if you make (COMBINED - husband and wife) more than $130K then you cannot deduct anything from your student loan expenses.

I remember getting nice refunds coming right out of university in Canada because I had paid about $30K in student loans and every year Revenue Canada allowed to deduct a portion of the student loan from my income as expenses. >>>>MEANING >>>Canadian government ENCOURAGED graduates to pay back their student loans with policies of that kind.

Here in this country, you cannot:

    A) deduct student loans paid in the past as expenses at all...

    B) Interest on student loans can only be deductible for families making $130K or less (After 80K only 50% is allowed to be deducted - so stupid)

    C) If you do pay back your student loans in any given year - there's absolutely to tax benefit of doing that. On the other hand, mortgage interest is deductible which only encourages people to take on MORE debt in a form of mortgage

    D) Rental expenses are not deductible AT ALL at the federal level, only some states allow for some relief for the expenses of paying house rent. Whereas in Canada, if you are a tenant, the government allows for some rental cost to be deducted as expenses at the federal so people can SAVE for the down payment of a potential buying of a home in the future

  5. Sounds like a high deducible plan. Ours is similar, $5000 until the deductible is met (but we can use our HSA to pay for anything) and after that everything is covered. It's not ideal for someone who's pregnant so you may want to look into when you can change your plan. Hubs and I are pretty healthy so really it's only for my yearly tests and if we need to go to emerg. The nice part is the saving into the HSA if there is an issue, and we can use that until we're 65. Since he's gov't we'll always have access to good plans, the hard part for us is picking out the plan.

$6000 for individual insurance is high but family it's ok. I have private health insurance and my deductible is about $3500 (kinda high I think) and after the baby comes it will jump to $7000!!! In my opinion, it is really expensive especially when I add the cost of $400/month premium (that is $4800/year)

So this cost of medical is quite high in my opinion because I've never had to pay for any medical expenses. My health insurance from work was really good but the job wasn't as good as my hubby's. I feel that one person in the family (husband or wife) has to just work somewhere to get good health insurance. My sister in law is also having a baby and she's paid only $20 copay for her monthly visits so far (X5 visits so far) and her health insurance is basically covering for everything else. She works for a bigger firm...

I wonder what old people do in this country? Like someone just said, people that have jobs (middle class families) they get stuck with medical bills and people that have NO income whatsoever because of whatever reason end up getting full coverage from medicaid. It really makes no sense..

  6. I miss healthcare in Canada. I've had one of the worst experiences in terms of healthcare in this country. Until I had a job, my coverage was pretty good but right after marriage when I quit, we had to get a private health plan. Private health insurance is expensive and so far (because I'm pregnant) We have paid about $3500 in doctor visits and tests done in only the last 4 months.

It is so confusing with the deductible and out of pocket deductible and all that gibberish which really didn't make sense to me until we really had to start paying. Oh and the the $3500 doesn't even include the $400 PER MONTH insurance cost for just me. It is ridiculous!

Oh and thank god for Obamacare changes because if it wasn't for that, NO ONE and I mean NO insurance company would've given me health coverage since I got pregnant BEFORE enrolling in to a health plan. Starting 2014, they cannot reject you for health coverage with a precondition so thank god for that!

  7. If anyone needs help with an interview list (I know I don't have my interview date yet haha but I've already created a list and organized everything in multiple folders and binders to the last detail so I'll have it all ready to go and because I haven't had anything else to do while waiting for my EAD :P) you can message me and I can copy and paste it for guidance or ideas on how to compile everything so it makes sense for accessibility and reference during the interview!

messaging you now! It would be of great help!

  8. When we submitted the I-130 we also included a copy of my husband's (USC/petitioner) birth certificate because he was not born in the US.

Refer to Page 4 of the instruction for for the I-130 and read the section What if a Document is not Available?

Option D Affidavits may be your best bet if there is no way to obtain a replacement birth certificate for your husband. I hope he can find it though!

Thank you for this info, i didn't know that there is such a option available.

Just wondering, in terms of affidavits, do we get those from family members like siblings and father? (mother is deceased)

  9. Hi congrats & good luck for your interview, now as for you husband's BC which country was he born in?

He was born in Saudi Arabia. I've asked him to keep looking and in the meantime I'll be contacting the consulate for a copy. I heard its very difficult for non-Saudis to get a copy since SA doesn't give citizenship upon birth. His parents were pakistani at the time and so the child born in Saudi gets the parent's citizenship.

With no contact in that country, it may seem difficult to get a copy....

  10. The interview letter clearly states "Petitioners birth certificate" as one of the items to bring along.

And then again, it says one more time that if AOS is based on marriage, must bring petitioner's birth certificate +US naturalization certificate (I have this)

It also states bring "ORIGINALS + Copies of the originals - other wise will KEEP the originals"

I didn't know I have to make copies of the original docs to give to them....

  11. Good point. But i dont think they are that crazy strict on the US citizen.. 'Opinion'.. I dont think its a deal breaker as long as he has passport (citizen).

By the way, can some who has received the interview (appointment date) letter. Post a list documents and papers to bring to the interview.

Or just post an image of their letter showing the list of documents needed.

Actually I was gonna attach it for others to see but I couldn't see the link to attachment until I started replying to your post.

Here it is.. If its not readable, let me know and i'll attach a close up picture

  12. "5. I am 6 months pregnant (showing very much) so this should help??? "

I was five months pregnant and I showed too. I took copies of my ultra sound pictures. the IO kept the copies. I think it did help us at least. She wanted to keep the originals so take copies just in case.

Thanks! I thought this would help us too and if you felt your bump helped you and then I'm hoping mine would too!!! Thankssss

  13. I was wondering if all of you submitted the birth certificate of the petitioner? Did anyone just send a naturalization certificate of the US citizen + US Passport ONLY as proof of citizenship or did all of you submit birth certificates?

I just realized after reading the interview notice that I need to take the birth certificate of the US citizen to the interview which we don't have.

He wasn't born in US and now I have no idea HOW we're gonna find his BC.

  14. Hey Everyone!

I didn't even know this topic/thread/forum existed! Wow, it seems like I did miss out on a lot. I could've shared my frustration and vented here lol

I got my interview notice email and text for May 8th. Im wondering if it would be the same office as the biometrics one.

    -------------

Here is what I posted in another forum, don't know how to delete it there, would help if February filers can advise on how they're preparing for their interview:

So I'm very excited today because I received a text and email with status update. Case status update says that I have been schedule for May 8th interview but the text & email is to let me know that the letter was mailed on April 6th!! (Haven't received it yet so don't know the location yet).

I am super excited, nervous, worried and happy!! I have the following prepared:

    1. Complete copy of what the package I mailed in.

    2. Originals of all the documents + last years' joint tax return which I didn't send in with my package because it wasn't filed at the time

    3. Everything organized and tagged in my special PINK Immigration folder (lol)

    4. Honeymoon and wedding pictures...

    5. I am 6 months pregnant (showing very much) so this should help???

The only twist or POTENTIAL issue or tricky things I can see them being suspicious about are as follows:

    1. We've been married for ONLY 8 months

    2. We met online ( not a very conventional way to be getting married in my culture)

    3. We were both married before ...(I don't how that would be looked suspiciously but I should mention that I've been married twice before and this is my THIRD one - never was I sponsored by anyone though)

So the question I have is, other than preparing a few questions on the Guide for interview link here, what else should I have prepared?

    1. I don't have recent pay stubs... just his job contract which is for 10 YEARS!! Should I start collecting pay stubs starting now?

And Are my concerns listed above really a cause for concern?

Thanks!! Any opinion would be greatly appreciated...

  15. If you're going to be going the AOS route then I don't you'll have to do any x-ray.

Yes X-rays for TB test are country dependent but in the case of Canada, I don't think they do it even with a false positive result.

I was pregnant when I went in for my medical (still am pregnant) and I went in with my complete record of vaccines so that helped A LOT! Because this is the only main critical issue with the immigration medical, getting vaccines. If you are pregnant and you're missing vaccinations on your record card you show them then they will not be able to administer any vaccines to you while you're pregnant. The only vaccines that were allowed for me were trap and the flu vaccine and everything else I showed proof that I had those already. They also just did a blood test for TB.

    Good luck!!

  17. Just hire a moving company and let them take care of it.

I moved a lot of stuff from Toronto to NYC for $1300 (including sofa, bed, mattress and about 8 big uhaul boxes) Yes it was a cheap deal but they took longer (about 14 days because they have to consolidate your stuff with others.

Go online and call some cross border moving companies.

The other thing you can do is that you can fly over and usually its much cheaper to pay the extra cost of additional suitcase (on international flights its only $75 but I think with US flights its $50 per suit case with 50lbs allowed limit) $50 per suitcase is way cheaper than hiring a company to move your stuff. If you have heavy boxes then this option will probably not work.

You can even try shipping companies (not moving companies) that can move your boxes for a $100-$125 ( I shipped boxes to my sister from Toronto to Calgary with blender and kitchen stuff through Fedex for about $200 per box - the boxes WERE HEAVY!) So you can fly with suitcases and ship the remaining boxes through shipping companies. Moving companies can be tricky so this might be a better option since you have no furniture.
