  5. @Dr3ams, I am inclined to go with @Crazy Cat's theory that a default overstay was somehow given. Even though you had an extension application in progress, if you left after the original 90 days and before the approval, it may have triggered a default overstay. Or maybe by leaving before the extension was approved, the extension may have been deemed abandoned then reverted to a default overstay.
  6. Thanks for sharing. It sounds like since you mother noted that your husband would be paying for the trip (there is no official sponsorship for a US tourist visa), the officer probably wanted to confirm. This sounds about the norm. And because of the short duration of the interview, I am sure a letter of invitation was not asked for. This kind of goes with what I was saying before that people who had a letter of invitation as part of their evidence, but was not actually looked at, are claiming it was the reason for approval. But that is kind of like a person claiming they got approved because they wore a blue shirt to the interview. There is no direct evidence to confirm nor deny it. Regardless, in both the examples you gave, it did not prove that an invitation letter, which is what the OP is asking about, actually helped. For your mother, it was your husband financial documents that was the key. Not an invitation letter. Again, thanks for sharing.
  7. Did the officers actually read the invitations? Because I have heard these claims before. I have heard claims of having an invitation being the reason for approval but when asked if the officer actually accepted or read the invitation, the person can not confirm the officer did. So those claims were moot. I have been on this forum for a while and I have only seen 2 cases of where the interviewing officer actually took the letter and read it. All of the other cases are of officers not even wanting to see other evidence. In fact, if you do a search of the tourist visa section of the forum you will find the words "didn't even want to see the documents we brought" are the most common feedback from people who went to a tourist visa interview.

  12. Honestly, nothing from you or your wife. There is no sponsorship or anything like that with US visitor visas. Your wife's aunt and uncle will have to apply for the visa on their own.
  13. Thanks for the info. I don't know if I would consider this a sponsorship of a tourist visa, though. More like a sponsorship for temporary stay for humanitarian reasons. If a person from those countries really just wanted to come to the US for tourism this does not seem like the appropriate way. Although it would be better for those who are in extreme hardship to at least have a lifeline.

  16. I agree with the valued members of the forum. Go for the spousal visa. Much more beneficial.
  17. How is he AOS exactly? Only US citizens can AOS of spouses. If you are not a US citizen your husband's AOS will be denied. Please clarify.

  19. The K1 visa was never meant to be a "try things out and see" option for couples. That is why part of the evidence the couple sends is a statement that they sincerely intends to get married to each other. Nobody should be rushing into marriage. When a couple chooses a K1 they should never treat it as a way out if things don't work out. They should be in a place in their relationship to genuinely get married. So advising someone to go the spousal visa route is not advising them to rush into marriage. Also, the K1 has a 90 time limit to get married. If anything it rushes couples to get married more than the spousal visa. But all too often on here, we have seen couples use the K1 as a "trial period" when the beneficiary gets here. It is not what it is for. Agree with your statement. But all of that falls on the petitioner ignoring the signs and wanting to rush things. Too many people want to use the K1 as a "trial period" option. But that is probably why USCIS made the 90 period to get married. Whether you choose the K1 or the spousal visa, it should be with 100% intention to get married. If a couple is not ready, then don't do either visa, not even the K1. So it makes sense to advice the spousal visa because there are more options. If someone whats to do the K1 visa so they can have a "way out" later, then they went about this the wrong way.

  23. Don't celebrate too soon. A social security card does not give you authorization to work nor does it give you authorization to travel. Those authorizations will come much later, possibly months from now. For now, you still can not travel and you can not work. You can use the SS number to open bank accounts, apply for credit cards, and get insurance.
