How early is early retired? Someone reported having trouble because they were retired at age 40 or something and it seemed suspicious to the officers.

I will be 55 and wife 53.

Dont have a job, have children but both grown up with their own children

Received this answer today from the USA Embassy,

"Please be aware that there is no specific time period that an individual must remain outside the United States between two trips under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

However, please be aware that to be eligible for entry to the United States you will be required to demonstrate to the satisfaction of immigration officials at the port of entry that you are a bona fide temporary visitor to the United States, that you have sufficiently strong social and economic ties to your country of residence to compel you to depart the United States at the end of your visit, that you have sufficient funds for your support during your stay and the you are maintaining as residence abroad."

There response raises even more questions, which I have asked them to answer,

Yes, back in 2000. It's not a very nice thing to go through.

Thanks for that link but my situation is completely different.

We are both early retired and looking to buy a place soon for our use only.

We do not want to stay longer than 90 days at a time but 2 breaks of 90 days, one in March/April/May and another in Sept/Oct/Nov

Hi everyone,

On a recent trip to the US I was denied entry on the VWP because I was "abusing" it and was told that I would need to apply for a tourist visa to come back again. That's fine but my question is, how likely is it that I would be given a tourist visa? Me and my fiance are planning on starting the K-1 visa process soon and surely if I was denied a tourist visa this would cause problems in terms of me successfully moving to the US? I just want to be able to visit my fiance for 2 weeks or so during the K-1 process as we all know this can take a very long time. Please let me know what you all think.

With the answers in mind, has anyone on here ever been refused entry from the UK or know of someone that has been refused entry from the UK for visiting too many times in a short spell of time?

How long is a piece of string?

If you are looking for an exact number of days defined by Customs and Border Patrol, there isn't one. It is up to the officer on duty at the immigration desk whether you get in or not. One might say..oh you were just here last month. Welcome back. Another might say...you were here 90 days and now a month later you want to come back? That is too often so I'm putting you on the next plane home. A good rule of thumb is stay out as long as you were in the US, and don't appear to by trying to "live" in the US on visa waiver. It is always a guess, but many 90 day visits is going to minimize you chances. Plus it could indicate you have no responsibilities to go home to and are thus considered more of a risk that you won't leave.

So if you managed to get a "nice" officer it might be possible to stay 90, out 1 stay 90 out 1 for ever more??

A good figure would be 90 days or more.

If I stay in the USA under the visa waiver programme for a period of up to 90 days and then travel back to the UK. How long is it before I can return to stay for another period of up to 90 days in the USA?
