Everyone looks suspicious to the CBP officers until they can prove to their satisfaction that they are not suspicious. That's their job - treat everyone with suspicion and assume that every foreignor that arrives on US soil is doing so with the intention of staying there illegally.
Keep yourselves watertight. Have a return ticket booked and evidence of a need to return home after the visit (in this case his studies) and there is no reason why he will be denied entry for a visit, assuming he satisfies all other criteria of VWP entry.

I know that if my husband had ever been denied his visa to the US, I would have done anything to make sure we were together even if it meant moving to his country, or a 3rd country. My husband left his family and friends, his job, the country he loves, everything to be with me. So what if you are a California girl through and through? You keep saying your husband is your entire world and how important it is for you to reunite, but you aren't making any effort to be with him since his denial other than make excuses as to why you won't go to him. I moved away from my family 22 years ago to be with my then husband and raised my children without the help of friends and family, I survived, so did my children(very well I might add). You are making every excuse in the book not to be with him, while you say in the next breath how important he is and how much you need to be together. You have a decision to make, either find a way to be together with him, or move on with you life. Making excuses and saying you won't move from California is pretty childish, in my opinion, you didn't even want to pay a consultation fee of a few hundred dollars to Laurel Scott. If you love this man as much as you say and you want to be reunited as a family than you should be willing do what it takes. Sorry if I sound harsh, but it's the reality of the situation and you need to suck it up and figure out what needs to be done or move on with your life without him. Nothing about immigration is easy, even without a situation like yours, it is what it is, try to pull yourself together to make things work if that's truly what you want. Good luck!

You can change your SSC at the local office as long as you bring your marriage license and passport. They may want other documents so call ahead and ask. I would wait personally and change everything after you receive your EAD or GC. It will be easier to change all documentation at one time. But like others said above your name does not have to be your married name for you to be on your husband health insurance.

Yes, she can use her married name. Her other documents can be changed to her married named afterwards!
