Hi everyone...Nigel got his biometrics appt letter today and it's for September 5 when we will be on a plane flying back from California. It gives instructions to reschedule but before we do that I am wondering if anyone has gone through this process. I'm worried that it'll set up back weeks or months if we attempt to reschedule. But rebooking our trip could also be a big problem. If anyone has had experience rescheduling this appt I'd love some feedback!
Thanks,
christine

I work for a carsharing company and we require applicants licensed outside of the US to provide us with a driving record. They're really easy to get from the UK. Here's all you need to do:
Contact the DVLA at +44 1792 310 075 to have your record faxed, or send a cheque for £5.00 to:
Mrs. L. Evans

Well Nigel has been here a week and is already bored since he can't work. Is he allowed to take a volunteer position? He is an avid cycler so he would love to work at a bike shop or really any place that will keep him busy. Anyone know if volunteering is allowed since he wouldn't be paid?

Hi all... Since most people reading this forum are already in the States I'm wondering if you can tell me how long it took you to clear customs when you entered on your K-1. Nigel is flying in on Wednesday and I want to bring my family to the airport with me to greet him but don't know how long he'll be so I can't really tell them when to get there. I assume it'll take him longer than usual to get through customs since he'll have paperwork for them to check, fill out, etc. He's flying into Washington Dulles but feedback from any airport experience would be great.
Thanks,
Christine

ladybutterfly - was it you who sent a link directly to a form to get tax back? i know someone did and i sent that link to nigel but of course he's lost the email. if you still have the link we'd be very appreciative!
thanks,
christine
forget it i found it!

I wouldn't worry about the paper size. We had both in our application and it wasn't a problem.

All Nigel was asked is where we met. I wouldn't even call it an interview. It's really more of a paper processing situation.

You can check the immigration timelines to see how long it's taken for others in your situation

Thanks for much for the info ladybutterfly. I had no idea about this and I'm sure Nigel didn't either. I've just sent him the link so I'll be sure he fills it out. He'll be out of work for a few months until EAD comes through so any extra money is definitely great!

I can't remember who it was but I believe it was someone who has an interview in May. There are three people listed on the London Interviews string - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...opic=120&st=540.
They are crashandcari, Baileyj96 and MrsW2B. Maybe check their timelines out.

Seems like UPS is the way to go for most stuff. And I'm going over for one last trip in the beginning of May so I'll probably bring a big suitcase with me and take some of his stuff back with me. Still not sure what he'll do with his bikes but I'm sure we'll figure it out.

Nigel had a letter from my employer and bank and London didn't ask for anything else. If you have the tax returns handy I would say print them out and take them. But if not and you're not self-employed you probably won't need them.
-
Maybe put N/A next to the boxes that don't apply. Crossing out spouse to put fiance in sounds good to me.

It may be that they have received it but just not processed it yet. This happened with us. They emailed Nigel back saying they hadn't received it yet and a week later he got packet 4 with his interview date. You can send a new one just in case but they probably have it in a pile of paperwork somewhere.
-
You'll be given an exact interview date and time. I've read on here about at least one person who requested an interview during a specific month and their request was granted. So it's worth a try if you want to email the embassy after packet 3 or send your request in on the checklist with packet 3. But since the visa is good for 6 months you shouldn't have any problems working through February if you anticipate a December interview.
Regarding trips to the States after the packets have been sent...Nigel came over right after he sent everything back from packet 3 and he had no problems. As anyone here will tell you it's entirely up to the POE officer to let someone in or not. Bring evidence of ties to the UK and answer questions honestly and odds are you'll be fine. Most of the times when people mention they've been turned away it's because they've had a history of staying for long periods of time in the States throught VWP.

I concur that an attorney is not necessary if your case is pretty straightforward. Many people advised Nigel and I to get an attorney and I was considering it before I found this site. But after finding the site there was no need for an attorney. You'll get all the advice you need on here as well as a step-by-step guide. And as long as you can double and triple check your paperwork to make sure you have all your boxes checked I'm sure you'll be fine.

We personally didn't even bring tax returns to the interview but I didn't have a co-sponsor so I don't know if that is a different situation. I just filled out the form and had a letter from my boss stating my position and salary and another letter from my bank stating how much I have in savings.
-
I have no idea what the official expiration date is but I can tell you we got ours notarized in mid-February and Nigel just had his interview today. He had no problems with that timeframe.
-
Dulles is kind of a pain because most of the terminals require a shuttle bus ride. So I personally would feel comfortable if I had at least an hour and a half in between connections. The airport isn't difficult to navigate per se, just takes some time if you have to switch terminals.

We're approved!!! London has quite the approval record stacking up.

Nigel had his interview this morning and his visa was approved!! He couldn't believe how long he had to sit around and wait for a 3-minute "interview" but was very happy and excited that it's all over with. I'll put more info in the embassy review section but he had a very positive experience. Now we can sit back and relax until after we're married and the paperwork start all over again
One question for those of you who have already been approved in London.....The embassy is sending the passport to Nigel's registered home address which is also his parent's address. He won't actually be there later this week to get the package when it comes. Can his parents sign for it? He thought maybe he needed to send his license to them so they could prove that he lives there and they are allowed to accept his packages. Did anyone else have a similar experience?
Thanks!

Thanks! I'll tell him to go nice casual. I know he'll feel more "official" anyway if he's looking nicer vs. just a t-shirt and jeans.
-
Hi all - Nigel has his interview tomorrow morning and is wondering if he needs to dress "smart" or not. I don't think he needs to be in a suit and tie but probably not in jeans and sneakers either. Any advice on this from those who have already interviewed?
Thanks!

Hi all - Nigel has his interview next week so I'm trying to find a list of everything we need. I checked the US Embassy website and found their list but I remember others posting a list in this forum for others in the past. Does anyone have that handy because I can't seem to find it in the archives? I'm trying to double and triple check everything
Thanks!

Adding spouse to credit cards
in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America

Nigel is having trouble even getting a secured credit card so I am considering adding him as an authorized user on my Chase credit card. My only fear is that his lack of credit will drag my very good credit down. Does anyone know if this is the case? I don't want to do anything to hurt my credit since we'll need it soon to buy a car and/or house.
Thanks,
Christine
