n400 taking too long at field office
Dashinka replied to KayEss's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Unfortunately, you appear to be in the 20% of Boston N400 cases that take more than 9 months to process. Personally I would wait a bit longer before thinking of taking any action such as a writ of mandamus. Good Luck! -

Which field office? -
If you want to go there, look at the history of the presidency in the ROK. Many of the past presidents in that country have ended up in jail mostly due to corruption. In the US, we celebrate political corruption and create a two tier justice system so the important people or the people of a certain political ideology are taken care of. I know, slow, steady, corrupt and petulant.

Interesting study. I wonder if it also applies to Old Corrupt Joe. PENTAGON-FUNDED STUDY WARNS DEMENTIA AMONG U.S. OFFICIALS POSES NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT Yet, as the authors of the RAND report note, there does not appear to be any vetting for age-related cognitive decline. In fact, the director of national intelligence’s directive on continuous evaluation contains no mention of age or cognitive decline. While the study doesn’t mention any U.S. officials by name, its timing comes amid a simmering debate about gerontocracy: rule by the elderly. Following McConnell’s first freezing episode, in July, Google searches for the term “gerontocracy” spiked. “The president called to check on me,” McConnell said when asked about the first episode. “I told him I got sandbagged,” he quipped, referring to President Joe Biden’s trip-and-fall incident during a June graduation ceremony at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado, which sparked conservative criticisms about the 80-year-old’s own functioning. https://theintercept.com/2023/09/12/national-security-dementia-mcconnell-feinstein/

DCF stands for direct consular filing. It used to be more common when USCIS offices were more widespread around the world, but now they are only allowed at the US consulate under exceptional circumstances. One of the common exceptions is when a USC spouse has to repatriate due to work responsibilities. What happens is the USC contacts the consulate and request they accept the I130 filing for an eventual spousal visa along with the reasons (I.e short-term job relocation back to the US). If the consulate accepts it, the processing time for the I130 and visa is accelerated greatly (usually less than six months or so). I am not sure this is an option anymore since your husband already went back to the US, but it may be if he can work something out with his manager and he still has valid residency in the country you are at. You can learn more about recent DCF filers by searching “DCF” in the VisaJourney search bar.

Too bad you didn't find us a few months ago. You husband had a classic case of filing a DCF case for you to get your GC much sooner than 2 years. That being said, it sounds like the lab course is important to you, but you also have immigration intent, so when filling out the DS160 for the student visa(?) you will need to disclose your USC spouse resides in the US, so it may be an uphill climb regardless of if you have an I130 in process for an eventual spousal visa. I guess I would pursue the visa for the lab course first and see what happens. Make sure you are very truthful with everything you fill out and with any questions asked at the visa interview, but I would be prepared to have it denied. If you are approved, no one can say for sure what CBP will do when you attempt to enter the US with that visa, but you can bring documents showing your need to return after the lab course is complete. I would also have you husband start researching the I130 process closely. Good Luck!

Error when scanning my Green Card?
Dashinka replied to tahm's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
Does you SSC have a note saying "Valid for Work Only With DHS Authorization"? If so, it is a restricted SSC, you can get that note removed with a GC. If the note is not on your SSC, then you are fine. -

My only thought was that CBP is also part of DHS, and when you apply for GE and go to the interview, they scan your GC. It is just a thought. -

Would applying for Global Entry at a CBP office also drive a SAVE update? -
YMMV. If applying through a post office, yes. If applying through a Passport Office directly with an appointment, maybe not. When my wife naturalized, she applied the day after her oath at the Detroit Passport Office, and they made a copy of her certificate, a supervisor approved the copy, and my wife was able to keep her original. Now that was all pre-covid when you could walk in to a Passport Office, so I would plan to give up the original certificate.
