The shooter had been arrested previously for carrying an illegal firearm, a felony with up to five years in prison according to existing laws. Of course a prosecutor decided they needed to strike it down to a misdemeanor. If he had been in prison according to existing gun laws, the shooting does not happen I can get behind one common sense new gun law, if found with and convicted of possessing an illegal firearm, five years of prison for the first offense, and 10 years after that with no allowance for prosecutorial discretion.
