Anyone filed to Detroit?
Dashinka replied to Sean Annie's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Detroit is fairly efficient, but the USCIS published timing is about 14 months for AOS. Good Luck! https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ -

You should still get mailed notices along with notices posted on your account as I don't think USCIS has instituted a paperless option yet. -
Pressure to revive economy muddies earnings outlook for China's top banks BEIJING (Reuters) - A scramble by Chinese policymakers to tackle a debt crisis in the property sector and shore up the economy is set to deal a blow to the earnings prospects for its big banks as they are pressed into the task of boosting credit demand. China's top five state-owned banks are expected to post a sharp decline in revenue and narrower net interest margins (NIM) as they turn in half-yearly results, with China Construction Bank kicking-off the reporting season on Wednesday. The results will come against the backdrop of record-low credit growth in July, default risks at some housing developers and missed payments by a private wealth manager linked to shadow banking that has raised contagion risk to the broader economy. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/pressure-to-revive-economy-muddies-earnings-outlook-for-chinas-top-banks/ar-AA1fBN40

HOW LOW CAN BLUE CITIES SINK? [merged threads]

Yes, and many Democrats claim there is no war on free speech in this country. I guess to them, you can speak freely as long as you only speak the words the Democrats/Left approve. -
US Mirrors China As Electric-Vehicle Bubble Starts To Deflate: WSJ The U.S. is mirroring China’s EV crisis where surges in production have led to an oversaturated market, according to an op-ed by Wall Street Journal. Auto manufacturers in China are bleeding cash and facing bankruptcy due to a relentless price war. Over the past decade, numerous Chinese EV startups have emerged, bolstered by government incentives including consumer benefits and direct financing. However, with the government reducing subsidies and increasing production requirements, nearly 400 Chinese EV manufacturers have gone under in recent years. With EVs making up a third of auto sales in China, but supply significantly outstripping demand, the situation is likely to worsen as Chinese consumption weakens. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/us-mirrors-china-as-electric-vehicle-bubble-starts-to-deflate-wsj/ar-AA1fBNce

Spouse visa interview question?
Dashinka replied to Drake1989's topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
If asked, I would respond with an annual income as shown on the I864. Good Luck! -
You can get a birth certificate from any entity in the US (BCs are issued locally, not federally and only to those actually born in the US). Your naturalization certificate (and US passport/passport card) will act as your proof of US citizenship. If you wish to change your name after naturalization, you will need to petition the court. If you change your name as part of the naturalization process, again, the naturalization certificate will act as the legal document to show that name change. Good Luck!

Administrative hold
Dashinka replied to Francis Seyram's topic in Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America
Administrative Hold, or Administrative Processing? Assuming AP, this means the consulate has more work to do before issuing the visa. This can be a lengthy as more background checks, or as short as they are affixing the visa to your passport. Good Luck, and hope for a short AP. -

This should be helpful. Essentially they need to be physically present for more than 549 days (550 days if there are 2 leap years in the 5 year range). https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/continuous-residence-and-physical-presence-requirements-for-naturalization -
You should be fine, as this is fairly common. If you read through all 11 pages of the thread in the thread provided, there was much more to the story there. If you are coming to activate your LPR status and the CBPO asks questions like that, just answer truthfully that you need to tie up your loose ends in Canada, but you also needed to trigger your LPR status ASAP due to you US job offer. Good Luck!

Hmm, makes a lot of sense. So has NATO and by extension, the US been the aggressor here, expanding their territory which is actually the cause of this war? I know, it is all about Putin and his aim for more land, or the reform the former U.S.S.R. argument, but of course those are ramblings from the Biden friendly Leftist MSM and the neo-cons on the Right. I still wonder what happens when Zelenskyy starts asking for troops since Ukraine is running out of them? David Sacks: Sadly, Ukraine Will Be Destroyed Before The West Admits We Need A Diplomatic Solution I don’t think the idea that Putin is Hitler is a serious argument. I don’t think that this is primarily a war of conquest. I think the cause, the causes of this war have been known for decades, which mainly has to do with Russian security concerns which the West continuously ignored. We ignored the advice of George Kennan in the 1990s in bringing NATO right up to Russia’s door. He predicted that would be a tragic mistake that would end in hostilities. We ignored the advice of our own ambassador to Moscow in 2008, Bill Burns, who is now the CIA director, who told us that expanding NATO to Ukraine was a red line for the Russians, not just Putin, but the entire Russian elite. It was absolutely a red line for Gorbachev and Yeltsin, as well as various liberal reformers inside of Russia. We ignored the advice of Kissinger and Mearsheimer, Professor Mearsheimer in 2014 who warned us we were headed for this war unless we agree to make Ukraine a neutral country. And instead, we ignored all of this advice for many years, and we persisted in this crusade to bring Ukraine into NATO and basically turn it into a giant military base on Russia’s most vulnerable border. And not surprisingly, Russia reacted quite negatively to this, as was predicted many times over the years by all the experts I mentioned, including many others. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2023/08/20/david_sacks_sadly_ukraine_will_be_complete_destroyed_before_the_west_admits_we_need_a_diplomatic_solution.html

HOW LOW CAN BLUE CITIES SINK? [merged threads]

Hmm, so at least someone is going to make money in San Fran. San Francisco ‘doom loop’ walking tour gets visitors ‘close and personal to the squalor’ — and it’s already sold out Tourists curious about San Francisco’s “urban decay” of abandoned shops, open-air drug use and homeless encampments can get a guided tour of the whole thing. A street-savvy guide fed up with the lack of action by the local government says they will take people on the so-called “Doom Loop Walking Tour” to see the worst of the city for themselves. A tongue-in-cheek ad for the tour claims: “You’ve read the headlines. You’ve seen the Tweets, now get close and personal to the Doom and Squalor of downtown San Francisco. “How can a city with a $14.6 billion annual budget be a model of urban decay? How can it spend $776.8 million per year on police and have no rule of law to show for it? “Discover the policy choices that made America’s wealthiest city the nation’s innovative leader of housing crisis, addiction crisis, mental-health crisis and unrepentant crime crisis.” https://nypost.com/2023/08/15/san-francisco-doom-loop-walking-tour-gets-visitors-close-and-personal-to-the-squalor/ -
Ahh, the Leftist Tin Foil Hat crowd at Vanity Fair has a comment. Why is it that all Leftist rantings/conspiracies are considered truth by the MSM, but any theory someone on the Right posits is labeled nuts? I know one big difference between the Leftist MSM and the media labeled as conservative such as the Left's primary whipping boy FoxNews. The right leaning media will cover everything, even stories that may be detrimental to their ideology, and the Leftist MSM will avoid any story that may tarnish their protected candidate (Joe Biden, et. al.), and promote any Democrat/Leftist theory as truth even when it is in fact total conspiracy (Russian Collusions...).

Do they plan to actually reside in the US? -
With your plan, I would vote for citizenship as it will be much less hassle. The only thing you need to plan for is how long it will take for your wife and step-daughter to finish naturalization and get their US passports, so you may want to have a plan with flexible date. Good Luck!

Son coming to U.S before 18th birthday
Dashinka replied to Rey_o's topic in Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America
Yes, but since the son is entering on an immigration visa, the petitioner has some responsibility related to the first entrance of the US regardless of how long that petitioner has been in the US. It is the same as for a spousal visa. If the father wants to establish his son is a USC (becomes an LPR prior to his 18th birthday thereby becoming a USC through his father), he should follow the idea spelled out by @Mike E. Good Luck!
