Thank you all for responding.
Neither of us have criminal records at all and have never done anything illegal, but he did overstay a visit technically due to faulty info from the USCIS 800#!! This overstay did not come up at all in our AOS interview, but I was just so worried it would come up at the airport coming back into the USA because last time he entered the US he came as a visitor and now he has a green card! But...that's the way it goes sometime, I suppose and I guess others have done this, also.
Again, thanks to all for your responses. I will go and not worry about it. If anything crazy happens, I'll let you know. :-)

Yup, I'm with Len. Nothing to worry about. Have a great trip!
Thanks very much!
I knew I was being waaay paranoid. I mean, they did give him a green card after all.
Thanks, guys.

I think you have nothing to worry about. He is a permanent resident now, and can travel with his Canadian passport and his GC.
Enjoy the Great White North sister!!!!! (and bring me back an Icepresso from Second Cup now, will yah?????)
Thank you.
I would love to bring you back an icepresso. haha! I am looking forward to eating at Edo Japan. I know it's a small thing, but I just love their beef sukiyaki and I can't get it here!!!
Thanks again.

So this is probably the dumbest question in the world, but I'm posting it anyway.
My husband (Canadian, but US perm. resident) got his 10-year Green Card in 2006 and now has his Canadian Passport, which was lost for a while. I am a USC with a US passport. Anyway...we are flying to Canada this July for 8 days and for some reason I'm nervous about it (I'm a nervous person).
Once you have your Green Card, you can travel outside the US for 8 days and get back in, right? Even if once like 5 years ago you overstayed?
I know I am probably being way too psycho about this, but I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me if we are fine or if I need to worry.
Lastly, do I need to bring proof of my ties to the US to get into Canada, even if my husband is a US permanent resident?
Thanks very much in advance.

Ah here it is: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...=fake+greencard
I wonder if it has useful information.
awesome, thank you very much!

Is the Handbook for Employers out of date?
Yes, it is. The photo on the permanent resident card no longer faces to the side. That's the way you could tell the older ones were fake. They are now front-facing photos, so yes, that is out of date, too.
-
Well, if the GreenCard is actually green you can be fairly certain that it's a fake one.
right.
Oh, there is a thread on this already, started by Heina (also doing a work thing).Didn't see that. What forum is it in?
-
Why?
Lots of reasons, one being an employer.
Precisely.

i mentioned this in another thread and got no response...
my 8 yr old now has to be immunized against hepatitis A... this is a new thing... hepatitis A is a disease that we havent typically seen here in the US...
Everyone at my high school was immunized for hepatitis A. That was in 1995. This is not a new thing.

I can't find a good website that shows how to spot a fake green card. The ones I have found are outdated. Anyone have a site or know a surefire way to tell a real from a fake? As in, an actual tip, not a clever joke. Thanks.

has this not been posted and debated until most vjers puke in their mouth .....damn, talk about beating a dead horse
I wouldn't know. I don't have time to read all the threads on VJ.

Oh yeah, that's what we need....more guns in the schools. I know that would make me feel amazingly secure. Last I heard they weren't giving a battery of psychological tests to people who apply for permits to carry guns. I personally know 3 people who have been shot on a campus, and I am only 26 years-old. One is too many.
Would an armed student have been able to pick off the killer at VT? Maybe. Not one of us can say for sure. All I know is I would not feel safe if I knew other students were carrying guns. I would not know the type of training they've had, etc. It would freak me the hell out. I don't want things to go back to the Wild West. Ha.

I think the risk of emulation is quite low. That is, any one who is mentally disturbed enough to want to go on a mass murder rampage is so far gone anyway. And anyone who is not sociopathic and just severely depressed isn't going to be converted by attention *after* death into a murderer. No one decided to hijack airplanes because of the 9/11 coverage.
I don't know, man. This kid mentioned the 2 kids that shot people at Columbine High School. And there are killers who have confessed to wanting to "beat the record" of some of the serial killers, etc. But I think you're right, it takes a sociopath, not just some depressed person. I saw a few of Cho's videos and believe he was a sociopath, for sure.
I'm not really saying someone is going to emulate this tragedy *because* of the coverage, just that it adds to the collection of sick heroes kids like him worship...and believe me, they are out there. Notably, this sort of thing has been parodied by the film Natural Born Killers. Sick people make heroes out of killers based on how many they've killed, etc.
I don't know. It sickens me.

I agree. I wish they would not show these videos, photos, etc. I mean, I realise that if someone is messed up enough they can find the info, but the way it gets covered in the news...it would be easy to obsess over if you were a f****ed up person and wanted to, like you said, beat the record. I am not really for or against showing this media, I am just horrified by the whole thing and wish it had never happened. I personally know a girl who was shot in the school shooting by kip kenkel. She was shot in the back and would have maybe been killed if she hadn't been studying nursing and had a stethoscope in her backpack. The horror that has caused her is just unspeakable. She still has a long way to go to recover a feeling of safety most of us take for granted. I just wish we could all figure out why things are going so wrong and do something about it. That is incredibly idealistic, I know. Wishes usually are. I dunno. This whole thing bums me out. I feel so bad for all the people who have lost a loved one.

You should fit right in to America, land of anxiety.
As someone with a degree in psychology the statements and "statistics" on mental illnesses crack me up. I hope that one day the general public will become educated enough about mental illness not to fear it and/or make generalizations. The fact is, there is no set answer for who will lose it and get violent and who will be able to manage thier illness with therapy and/or medication. But then again, this is a board on immigration, not psychopathology. I just had to say.
Good luck with your future endeavors.

Holy hell, that's nuts. What a great story. Glad you got out of that situation before it became too bad!!
Best of luck to you.

That guy looks so sad and lonely. I hope he doesn't kill himself over this, though. What the hope for love does to people is amazing. Totally shoves reason out the door.

Kurt Cobain.

Hooray! Best wishes for you and your family.

Yuck. I hate it when people steal identities...illegal immigrants or otherwise. How scary.

What a pain. Best of luck to you both.

J can drive, but I think he drives badly. Then again, this morning I ran a stop sign. Good thing the 5-0 wasn't around! Hahaha. I actually felt really bad about this.

No, I do not know of any cases such as that.
Best of luck to you!
Confused and stressed Canadian girl married to an American for 3 yrs. Please help :(
in Canada

Look at my timeline. Practically the same exact thing happened to us. My husband (Canadian) got his green card approved in April of 2006. We never used a lawyer. If you have any questions about what we went through, please feel free to ask me. I can tell you this (everyone else has said it, too): Do not leave the US! We actually did leave the US (we were naive) after we were married and tried to get back in. Bad idea. I know our story started about 5 years ago and the laws may have changed, but if you need any support, emotional or advice, just let me know and we can exchange email addresses.
Best of luck!
