I believe what is preventing OP from visiting is child support unit may hold his passport due to overdue child support. In addition, limited funds to travel internationally. I would concentrate on paying back child support, getting your passport back and saving money for future travels and immigration fees/sponsorship.

I understand your frustration. There is no better feeling than being done with USCIS forever. With that being said, try to look at the positives. You are still able to work, travel, live with your spouse, drive, open a bank account, start a business, etc. Being a US Citizen will not grant you many more benefits than you already have. Your life will not change dramatically after you become a Citizen. It's best to accept something you have no control over. I updated my social security card after obtaining Citizenship. I had no issues when I presented my old card with the annotation before.

This may not be relevant to OP, but I graduated from US University and when I was applying for jobs I also listed my foreign degree I obtained before moving to US. I received very little interest as a new graduate. After I decided to drop my foreign education from my resume I received a lot more interest and more invites for the interviews. I believe this may be related to ageism even though I was only in my early thirties when that happened. I believe listing my foreign degree made my appear older.

I really don't think attorney is necessary. If you can follow the guides in this website and provide all supporting documents you should be fine. Overstay is forgiven for spouses of US Citizen.
