  1. Hi There

I feel you girl! I have moved also from Dubai, UAE last December and FEDEX wants my 4 huge boxes of personal effects to be itemized up to the number of underwear inside it... Its ridiculous. All my stuff are used and they said that I can put any amount on my clothes as long as it will not exceed the value of 1,000$ or the insurance for it will be higher...

I just put the amount of each of my clothes and get on with it.... received it after a week or so in good hands...

I told FEDEX there isnt anything in the boxes that Customs will be interested in... lol

    Good luck girl!

  2. Hello VJ peeps

My AOS package is being processed at the moment and I already got my fingerprint last February for the Employment Authorization. I know that I will get my EAD before end of May. However, my concern is the I-485 processing time. My passport is expiring on Dec 2014 and my plan is to wait for the green card to arrive before renewing my passport (with my married name on it) ....

I know that I-485 may take 8- 12 months to be approved and by then my passport will be expired. Should I apply for a new passport (with the married name on it) and send a new copy of my passport to the NBC where its being processed afterwards? Or wait til i get the greencard and apply for a new passport even if it has expired?

    Your advise is greatly appreciated.

    Regards

  3. hi there

I was also trying to get a learner's permit in OK but they needed either a work permit or Green card to get started. I also got my SSN with work authorization from DHS and I am working now even without my work permit issued yet. But the SSN wasnt enough to apply for a driver's permit, not even to take the written exam... we presented our marriage cert, my 1-94 and my passport but it wasnt enough.

As for the 1-94 expiring, your wife can apply for a state ID (in your case CA) for her to carry around town... in OK i got mine after getting my SSN and its what im carrying around as a form of identification. The state ID states that its just an ID and not a driver's license ID. I have not been asked by any police or any officers to show my ID.

    hope it helps...

and dont worry abt her 1-94 expiring, as long as you get married within 90 days of arrival then she will be fine...

  4. 1 all cases are handled the same regardless if the petitioner is in military or just a regular citizen.. my husband was in navy too when we met but we didnt ask for the navy help as they may just make the process slower...

2 all applicants has to undergo the same criminal background check and formalities and your visa will be given to you once you have given the USCIS/embassy their complete requirement.

    3 - follow this link... www.cfo.gov.ph

4 - you can travel with your phils passport using your middle name to the US as long as you have your CR1 visa attached to it... If your passport is about to expire soon, then i suggest you renew it the moment you receive your US visa and then you can use your husband's name on the new passport upon submission of your marriage certificate..

hope it helps and welcome to VJ

    regards

  5. Hi there - I applied for my SSN after our wedding and after filing our marriage certificate to the city hall... I brought and presented the marriage certificate, passport with the entry visa stamp and the I-94.. I received my SSN a week after with the "valid for work with authorization from DHS.. So i was able to apply for jobs long before my work permit was even submitted/processed. I just started working now and I am scheduled to visit DHS office in OKC for finger print and photo for work permit application this thursday...

  6. Hi there

I just had my interview last week and was asked to return to submit a new sponsor (I-134) as my current sponsor's last year gross (according to them) is not enough. So the CO asked me to get a new sponsor (my father in law this time) and i got the approval after a week of resubmission.

My Advise - if your sponsor's income isnt enough, find a new sponsor and prepare the following:

    New I-134

    Sponsors passport copy

    Sponsors's last 3 years tax and w2

Current pay slip (bring at least the last 3 months)

    hope this helps!

  7. I hope VJ peeps can help me out, aside from the I-485 and I-765 forms that I will need to complete after our wedding, are there other forms that we need to submit? I know that during the K1 visa application, there were few more forms that was submitted aside from the published forms and just wanted to make sure that we are not missing any other forms upon submission.

    Thank you all!
