  1. My fiancee is currently in the states on a visa waiver visit. We have discovered that she needs emergency eye surgery which will require an extension of her time in the US. It appears that UCIS will grant only an additional 30 days and that this extension may affect future requests for visas to the US. Because the surgery requires placing a gas bubble into the eye, air travel is forbidden until the bubble is reabsorbed - which could put her at risk for overstaying if she doesn't request an extension. Our question is: Does anyone know if requesting a visa extension while the K-1 application is in process will affect the outcome of the process or affect the admissability of my fiancee into the US in the future? The decision to have or not have surgery may depend on the answer to the question. On the other hand, her vision is at risk and the US is the best place to have the surgery.
