I don't know about the elected officials in the Keys as I vote in SW Florida (Naples... solid red), but from the looks of the flags flying on the boats in the lower Keys, its red also. That always surprised me as I envisioned Key West as being super liberal. Turns out those old hippies can be conservatives too. Not sure where the people in the video live. Didn't pay a lot of attention to that.

Been there. Done that. Long story, but it involved permitting issues on a dock rebuild I did in the FL Keys several years ago. Along the way I spoke with a couple of the inspectors and was told there would be no problems and that the county just wanted to see that we were compliant with the latest codes. When it was finished and we were getting the paperwork signed off they let me know about the fines. $7500. I told them "NO (BLANKING) WAY. The dock was not even worth that much (at that time). They immediately told me the fines were negotiable. Did my research and learned most cases were settled for 10% or less of the original fine. I didn't feel like I owed anything and went back and forth with them. Got tired of that nonsense and finally settled for about $500.

I am very familiar with this story. My daughter in law was from South Africa and came to the US with her parents 20+ years ago. Of course they have been telling me about the taking of white farmers land and the killings of white farmers and the burning of their homes. It has even happened to one of their relatives. Was not easy for my daughter in law's family to get out of SA, but they managed many years ago. The stories her parents told me let me know how difficult the SA government tried to make it for them to leave, Funny story. They arrived when my daughter in law was a young teen. When she started started school here there was the usual paperwork to fill out. Of course there was the question about race with the blanks to check. She selected African/American because, of course, she was African but was now living in America.

I added to my stock portfolio a few weeks ago when the market took the big down turn. Buy low... I've done well over the years with Walmart, McDonalds, Home Depot, Coca Cola, and Costco. After several years it's amazing what you will accumulate.
