  1. Many years ago the state (or maybe the county) inspector came to my office to do a routine inspection regarding waste. How it was handled, disposed of, documentation, etc. Back then we all used the old fashioned X-rays that were in a cardboard wrapper and were developed on site. Inside the package next to the film was a piece of lead to limit the radiation past the film. I was asked how we disposed of it as there was no set rule at that time. Being the smart a** I am I told him I threw it into the Gulf of Mexico. It is the truth. At the time I was melting it down and making fishing weights. WOW, the look on his face. He wrote a long paragraph in his report, but I never heard anything about it. I thought for sure there was going to be a problem.
  2. Dental? Ok, you have my attention. I'm interested.
  3. My daughter is a pediatric dentist and will be having twin girls in December. A while back someone asked her if she had been looking for daycare. She thought it was too early to look. To her surprise it has been a real challenge to line up daycare for February or March next year for two. She briefly considered a nanny until she found out it would cost her about $80k a year. She was on a few wait lists until a few weeks ago. I suppose at a pediatric dental office having your kids running around would be no big deal. They just blend in.
  4. 36 falls off of me. 34 is a little too loose. 33 is just right and a little harder to find, BUT I'm starting to get this belly...
  5. We got as far west as Elliot Lake....uranium! Had the Gieger counters working.
  6. For evening entertainment all of us geology majors would go stock up on beer and sit outside and watch them dump the molten slag. This was a LONG time ago and there wasn't much to do for excitement then. Also wasn't much vegetation around either.
  7. No problem. I'm waking up shortly after midnight... especially after midnight Pacific time.
  8. Went to the nickel mine in Sudbury ON many years ago (when I was a geology student) and didn't immediately understand why the employee parking lot had electric outlets at every parking space.
  9. I remember up north back before global warming when people would use a light bulb on an extension cord under the hood of the car on extra cold winter nights to keep the engine from being too cold to start in the morning.
  10. It's 4:15 am and I'm just reading this. I'm and early morning person, not a night owl. Already got nearly 6 full hours of sleep and I'm ready to go. Best part of the day right now before the sun, and everyone else, comes up. I'm still trying to figure out how I can work remotely.
  11. Pee-wee Herman actor and creator Paul Reubens dies from cancer at 70 https://apnews.com/article/pee-wee-herman-paul-reubens-dead-616484f62a62c4ac3e0cc46b02376dd8
  12. Had to renew mine this year before we travel overseas in October. Sent everything in mid April and got it back mid June. I figure that's not really too bad. Just checked and they received my passport April 24th (of course I mailed it out a week or two earlier) and the new one was issued June 6th. Received it back mid June.
  13. Has to be better than tuna glop or corn dogs.
  14. Bummer. Time to look for another place to eat. Hooters?
  15. Healthcare in the US is very expensive, and without health insurance it could be a huge problem.
  16. Looked at the article and saw the picture.... Got a good chuckle when I saw the case of Tulammo. That's the worst garbage ammo ever.
  17. In a relevant side note: Boiler is ahead of TBoneTX in upvotes!
  18. Did Columbus discover Poland too?
  19. I told her they don't eat much
  20. https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/florida-keys-celebrate-200th-birthday-with-worlds-largest-key-lime-pie/3065213/#:~:text=NBC Universal%2C Inc.,certify as a world record. It was our bicentennial here in the FL Keys along with the July 4th celebration at our local park. There was food, music, activities for the kids, and the WORLDS LARGEST KEY LIME PIE! I got a piece, but the wife wouldn't eat it because she said she saw too many flies around the pie... Great time that concluded with fireworks and a laser light show. Not bad for a "small town". To be honest, just before it got dark we went back to the house and watched the fireworks from our front porch with a couple of frosty cold adult beverages.
  21. I think you could do well at the hot dog eating contest at Coney Island. I'll bet you could beat today's 64 hot dogs (and buns) in 10 minutes.
  22. I always assumed, based on some of Gary's stories, that he may have had a massive heart attack during.. um.. bedroom activities. But you know what they say about when you assume. Sorry to hear about Kip. I haven't communicated with him in well over a year. I'll make an effort to send him a message.
