  1. I am just curious if I am missing anything with that idea.....In case I don't receive my US Passport on time, could I not just travel with the passport from my country of birth to my country of birth, one way flight...? (The passport mailed to my US address, could by friends than mailed to me abroad and I could enter the US with it later)..... Because before when I travelled with Passport and Greencard, leaving the US, they never wanted to see the Greencard, just the passport anyway. Yes? No? Thanks

  2. I did that. I had a flight on Tuesday, and went to Philadelphia Passport agency on Friday. I made an appointment by phone for 8:30. Got there around 8:45am and had my passport at 12pm. All you need is your Naturalization Cert, Flight information (they just need to see the date on it-must be within 2 weeks), passport photo and money. As I was there there were people who had no appointment but still were able to get their passports. Having an appointment gives you a piece of mind though. It was fast and totally worth that extra 60$.

    Good luck!good.gif

Thank you very much for sharing your experience...If anybody else went to get the passport the same day, please post....My office is in miami.

  3. The thing is I will go abroad after the oath...I guess I will try to get the passport the same day at the agency with showing my ticket and hope that works (as i have read it does..) but I dont know when i return to the states, and when they dont let me update my status at the SSA and DMV then that's not too good I think....since my drivers license will expire in a few months anyways, and until I come back I have an expired one then....

OR should I simply renew my drivers license before the oath? Then I have it and its just not in the system that I am a citizen but a greencard holder, does it matter??

  4. From what I understand you will need to go update the SSA before you can update the DMV, but you don't need to update the SSA before getting your passport.

My personal plan of action (because I shouldn't have any timelines to worry about) will be, SSA then DMV then passport. However if I have a timeline to worry about I'll do passport ('cause that will take a couple of days anyway unless you do same day service), then SSA then DMV. As long as you have your passport to travel (if you need to soon) you are fine. You can update the SSA later... apparently sometimes they're at the oath ceremonies as well (which I doubt for my small office :D)

Thank you for your reply. Do you have experience with getting the passport the same day you apply for it? Does that work?

  5. I want to reply for the passport the day of the oath, but should I update my infos with the SSA first and then update my drivers license at the DMV (I wanted to renew it anyway now) and then after that apply for the passport? Or will my info that I am a US Citizen not be in the system of SSA and DMV that quickly? I just want to finish it all, since I will be abroad afterwards for a while....any experiences ?? Thank you!

  6. Thank you 2 !

@magical, so when i decide to live outside the US for a while or forever or who knows, then all I have to do is put my foreign address from my home country on the US Tax return and thats it? I am not sure if banks (mine is Bank of A.) let me put a foreign mailing address on my account, doesn't it have to have a US Address linked to it??

And the rule is that now as a US Citizen - I ALWAYS have to file a US tax return, no matter where in the world I live?? Is that correct? Thanks so much for your help!!

  7. Thank you all very much !!!

Hey NickD, if I want it the same day and go to that office (I guess in my case Miami) does it cost more and how much more?? I found pages from agency that charge 100's of $$ to get it same day, or withinn 2-4 days etc....will I have to pay that fee when I make an appointment with that office in Miami as well or just the regular 110 + 25 + 60 ? (expedited fee) ??? I live far away from miami but could fly out there for my trip, so could I go to the office there in the morning and fly out in the evening or next day, or is that not enough time??? THANKS so much for your help, I really appreciate it !

  8. So lets say after the oath I update status with the SSA and apply for passport so thats all done and then a few months later I move to a different address in the same state........Will I then just have to go to the DMV and get a new drivers license and thats it, or where else do I have to change my address with the government or who knows, who do I have to inform, if anybody?? (As a GC Holder I had to file the AR-11 to USCIS) As a Citizen, just drivers license update??

Also, what if after taking the oath and getting the US Passport, I move back to my home country for a year or so.....do I have to change my address anywhere for that, or I just keep everything the way it is?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP !!

  9. Hi, I am not sure how the passport procedure works. I just know some facts. I hope somebody can help me with my Questions.

    1) Can I apply for it at the oath or will they just give me the application for it and that's it?

    2) I can apply at the post office I heard!? Do they help you with that there (how to fill it out, how to mail it, etc.) or are you on your own and just mail your application with the certificate to who knows?

    3) If I choose the faster method for $60 to receive the passport, when will I get it. I am planning to travel 3 weeks afterwards, so would 3 weeks be realistic to receive it on time??

    4) How does it work if you want your passport the same day? I live in Florida, is the only option to do it in Miami? So could I go there and get it the same day or next day or how does all that work?

Any help is appreciated !! Thanks so much, Susi
