  1. It sounds like either you or she or we are not sure whether this is a USCIS fine, a dental bill, or a fine from the state/locality. And since she won't show you it, there's not really anything anyone can do unless she shows someone else who can assist.
  2. That is brilliant. I interviewed in Cleveland OH five days ago and am still waiting for my oath ceremony to be scheduled. Congratulations on your speedy naturalization experience!
  3. Five year rule, provided you did nothing dodgy at any point, is a walk in the park. I had my interview five days ago and I'd gotten divorced a month prior to filing the N-400. All they wanted to talk about with that was just clarifying the date it was finalized. It really is just a performative event for the majority of people. I think I had more difficulty getting there than I did at the actual appointment.
  4. To edit: biometrics was actually on 6/7, and I filed under the five year rule shortly after divorcing my ex-husband. Figured I may as well since I'd be paying to change my name on my green card anyway.
  5. Hello, only just occurred to me to post here. Apologies if I miss anything pertinent. I'll be reading through all the pages shortly! 5/13 filed online 6/8 biometrics 7/20 civics (passed) Now waiting for oathy oath.
  6. If it's still anything like it used to be ten or so years ago, you'll be waiting for that SSN card forever. Go and get it, if the person you see refuses to issue one because they don't understand I-551 stamps, kindly request a supervisor. The lady I saw at my appointment had no clue what she was looking at.
  7. If it helps you to feel any better, I got divorced about a month before I filed for citizenship and all I got asked during my N400 interview about it was to just confirm the date it was finalised. I didn't do a divorce waiver for my I-751 (that happened about five years ago when we were still married) but I was worried about scrutiny as well. I just thought it made more financial sense to go for citizenship rather than pay to change the name on my green card and then having to do citizenship later anyway. That was going to be my answer if pressed 🤣
  8. Different offices have different policies as far as visitors and seeing people without appointments. The Cleveland field office is in a big office tower, so all sorts of people are coming in and out and security is for all of those businesses. I saw people walking in without appointments while I waited for my citizenship test yesterday asking for help with various things. They allow your partner to be with you. Some are a lot more strict, I'm not sure if it depends on what kind of building they're in and whether they share it with other businesses or government entities.
  9. I think I recall my ex putting "NRA" (stands for non-resident alien) where my non-existent-at-the-time SSN would have gone. And yes it had to be mailed in. When I arrived and got my SSN, we amended the return to Married Filing Jointly.
  10. Very true. I was and still am a bit of a push over so it didn't even occur to me to ask.
  11. Can you contact the translator and ask them to fix the mistake? They might do it for free since it was their mistake.
  12. I went to get my SSN about two weeks after I arrived. The lady I sat with was really unfriendly and said she couldn't do anything for me because I didn't have a green card, despite my insistence that the stamped visa acted as one for a year. She also mentioned that my middle name was in the incorrect field in the SAVE (is that what it's called? It's been so long) system which I recall was a minor issue back then. I recall calling CBP about it and they were like 🤷‍♀️, lol. She handed me a piece of paper and sent me on my way telling me I wasn't eligible for an SSN. The paper said congratulations we'll send your SSN ASAP. Got it a week later and almost nine years later I still have no idea what any of that was about. Not sure if she couldn't read or if she figured it out at the end and was too embarrassed to say as much... I thought maybe a mistake happened somewhere but I've been recklessly using my SSN to date with no prison time thus far. Well, I had someone aggressively tell me that LPRs don't get SSNs a few years back but I still somehow have it to this day!
  13. I was buying alcohol at a Giant Eagle once and the cashier wouldn't accept my British passport. Another occasion at a bar, the server started leafing through the pages and asked me if I was here legally lol. Some places are weird about foreign documents and it is up to them what they choose to accept or not. I hope you get the situation with your SSN sorted soon so you can get a drivers license or state ID.
  14. Hello, I filed online for citizenship in May. Did my biometrics last week and my interview/civics test is in July. I filed under the five year rule. I have managed to order the past four years of tax transcripts by mail since I couldn't verify my identity to download them online. I believe my ex-husband filed our taxes for 2018 so I may not have access to that info anymore since the IRS cannot provide the transcript. Was just wondering if anyone knows how to get a copy of the return or a transcript for 2018. I did see form 4506 but I don't know who the "main" filer was that year (me or my ex-husband, I honestly cannot remember this far back). I don't even know which company we filed with. I wasn't asked to upload any tax info when I filed online, honestly didn't know I needed this since my interview letter didn't list it in the "what to bring" section. It was only when coming back here I saw people mentioning it 😁 Thank you 🙂
