I just talked to CGI as well. They said basically to keep trying, they are just awaiting for the consulate to release slots. It's good to know at least that they will/might be releasing some soon. I guess I have a new game to play in the evenings, it's called slot-checker. One bright note is that CGI said that the fee I/we paid is good for up to a year.
I do wish this system were a little more streamlined.
