Our Story
I was born in the Philippines in 1988. My father and I moved to America when I was 2 years old. I lived in California, USA with my grandparents and father for ten years then after the death of my grandparents, my father and I moved to the Philippines in November of 2000 with a "permanent residency" status. We stayed here and never returned to the USA. Someone told me we were supposed to return every six months but such a thing was impossible for my father considering our financial situation at the time. I most certain we overstayed. My father died on September 25, 2008 a day before my birthday but I didn't know I wouldn't be able to go back to America because I was still a minor when we did "overstay." I still held onto my "permanent residency" card and it expired in May of 2011. They said I needed a lawyer to be able to re-enter the USA. I'm still confused as what to do. I would really like some answers, would it still be possible to renew my permanent residency status or is it forever void? Are there any other ways I can return to the USA? I have many relatives there and I am a licensed and registered Pharmacist. I would appreciate any possible answers regarding my rather complicated situation. Thank you for reading.
