  1. Good to share, thanks! By coincidence I got my first US passport at about the six month mark before my Canadian one was set to expire (need both to enter Canada if you're dual), so now I get to renew them at the same time in ten years..
  2. Update: Applied for my expedited passport on march 26th at the USPS in Santa Cruz. The passport office received the documents April 1st and it was delivered to my house today! Still waiting on supporting documents but apparently those were mailed out yesterday. That was lightning fast.
  3. I wasn’t sure if I could actually talk to someone at passport Canada given how hard it is to reach a human when I call USCIS. I did try calling and after a 30 minute wait did get though to someone. Looks like they deliver to citizens living in the US via fedex which is actually faster than delivering within Canada (1-2 days with fedex vs ~5 days with Canada post). So I might mail in my passport application today.
  4. Maybe I worded it poorly - I’m just wondering how long it’s taken Canadians in the US to get their Canadian passport? It’s been a decade since I ordered my last one.
  5. I did expedite the US passport. I don’t think I can expedite my Canadian one from the US though.
  6. I just applied for my first US passport and expedited it as we are travelling in June, and while we’re staying in the US, it would be bad if it arrived while we were away. I’m also due to renew my Canadian passport. I see that it takes about 20 days which seems like enough time. However; I’m not sure how long delivery takes to the US. Anyone have a recent experience getting a renewed passport?
  7. Still a little confused on the dates but I went ahead and applied for my passport yesterday. Didn’t realize they need the naturalization certificate for the process so I’ll have to wait until I get it back to update my ssn.
  8. I saw that I need to wait ten days to update my social security information. Do I also need to wait 10 days to register to vote, apply for passport, etc?
  9. As of half an hour ago I'm officially an American citizen! It was an interesting experience - they handed us info packets and then had us get in one of several lines that wrapped around the parking lot. I think they were doing oaths in batches. At some point, an official came by to fetch my appointment letter and green card (+ expired docs). After that we just waited for the line to move. Once it was my turn, I got out of my car and swore the oath with a small batch of people (maybe a couple dozen?). Then we got back in my car and after a few minutes I was handed my certificate of naturalization. Thought there would be a little more fan fare, but I'm glad the process is over!
  10. It’s the San Jose office. It’s a bit funny hearing about a really nice USCIS officer, as I described mine to my husband as possibly the most middle of the road as I could get (not too nice but not scary, we had a pleasant conversation about how expensive it is here and how everyone comes here for work 😂).
  11. Woke up this morning and saw that my oath ceremony was scheduled for March 15th. Seems like USCIS is moving fast this year (not that I mind)!
  12. Hardly anything! Just my letter and green card.
  13. Completed my interview! I was the last interview of the day for the officer (USCIS San Jose was pretty quiet at that point too). I passed and was recommended for approval.
  14. True, will just have to work out how many pages that is. I am on the lease and sent them copies of it.
  15. Yep, residency, because my husband pays most of the rent related bills (housing, utilities, etc). I can technically file under the 5 year rule and not just 3, but I sent evidence for both. It could be easy for me to walk in with way too much stuff.
