A233465 replied to A233465's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
Thank you - we opted to do this - . I did it on a word doc - paragraph adding to the specific section on the application, its on our tax transcripts anyway as a schedule C and SE and from going over those from the past 5 years its a small part of our income but its there. -
Tax Transcripts for Interview

Thank you - much appreciated. We chose to re-upoad those pages just to be 'sure' (under unsolicited information) along with a description of why. even though you are right, it doesnt make sense that they would accept an incomplete application. If its a known glitch on their end I guess it makes us look... like we have attention to detail. Who knows. How stressful. I believe you but still, how stressful! -

Thats crazy - the spouses information was blank?? Thats crazy! the section was blank even though you filled it out correctly? That is absolutely crazy! is it superfluous to try to re-upload anyway? -
Tax Transcripts for Interview

My husband was going through the uploaded n-400 today to verify some information. We noticed that all the information about me, the spouse was empty. We would not have left that empty, we tripple checked this before uploading it... I also find it hard to believe that if the form were incomplete on their end that they would have accepted it. We are filing under the general provision. In the application it shows that he reported married and for good measure WHEN WE FILED we uploaded our marriage certificate, both the original and the copy from the county. They have that under supporting evidence. They had scheduled his interview. How is this possible??? We are downloading the page again and re-uploading the specific information about his spouse under unsolicited evidence with an explanation that we noticed this was empty, we don't understand why. We will also upload my birth certificate and probably our latest mortgage statement under unsolicited evidence. -
Tax Transcripts for Interview

Well i'm working with what I have. The lawyer responded and said bring whatever you have and explain the absence of what we don't. We do have evidence that we filed and paid taxes that year - along with the tax return prepared by our preparer, the tax transcript that shows we paid with zero balance (and what we paid) the carbon copy of the cheque made out to the us govt which matches as well as the bank statement with the matching cheque number that shows said cheque was cashed. The lawyer did not suggest rescheduling the apt. I sent off for the tax forms and i'm just concerned about them getting back in time. -
Tax Transcripts for Interview

I have requested by mail - will try calling, I didnt realize i could call to request transcripts but I also want to see if I can just make an apt to go to an IRS office and have them print it there. There is an IRS office 5 minutes from my house as long as we can get an apt. If not my thought was to use the act transcript combined with our own copy of the filing. Its the same year and the act transcript shows filed and a zero balance owed. -
I know this is an old thread but i'm just wondering how this worked out for you. I have requested the 5th year but i'm concerned about it coming in time. I have downloaded the 4 years of transcripts and I also downloaded the account transcript for the 5th year. We have the tax return for the 5th year and I was going to bundle that with the account transcript in the event that the 5th transcript didnt come in time.

Tax Transcripts for Interview
A233465 replied to A233465's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
makes sense. I already emailed the lawyer and i sent off the request for the last transcript this morning. We have the actual tax returns though so if the last transcript doesnt come in time we will go with that and like you said, worst case get an RFE. When i did the affidavit of support years ago I did not use tax transcripts, I made copies of my tax returns and sent those and they were accepted. -
Tax Transcripts for Interview

This is to say - we are applying under the general provision. -
How many years do we need? 3 or 5? The IRS only has 4 years available for download so we did that. They did have an 'account transcript' for the 5th year, which showed that we did file, its just not the entire transcript and we can of course bring our tax return, or we could get proof from the people who prepared our taxes. I don't need to do the extra step and request the IRS to mail me the transcript for the year 2020 do i?

Things we forgot on N-400 application.

I appreciate the response, thank you, its just encouragement. That's what I was thinking, that he would explain it in the inverview but wow my stomach dropped when I realized this. -
Really just one thing. I know we need to bring our tax transcripts and as I was thinking about it. I realize I *think* we forgot to include one source of my husband's income (we haven't double checked yet). It was semantics and the way the question was asked 'employer' well - we must have been quite literally thinking because we only thought of who he is employed by, who he goes into work with, not considering all forms of his income... He has a small online Ebay business which we do report tax wise but I think last year only made maybe 9k in profit. We report it on our taxes so, i'm assuming it will show on the tax transcripts. And for whatever reason when we were filling that out we didn't consider ebay as part 'employer' really hyper focused on everything else that needed to be done. I was just assuming that at the interview they will ask if he needs to rectify or amend anything on his application that will be when he mentions ebay and refer to the tax transcripts. It was an honest mistake - and as my husband phrased to me just now, I think he will do a good job explaining what happened... but it makes my stomach drop to think we messed this up.

My Husband's interview got scheduled - 😲 The waiting time went from 7 months to 6 weeks in a matter of weeks. We got the letter last night. My question is this- in the letter they outline things he MUST bring with him - among being any evidence of selective service registration. He was too old to register for selective service by the time he got here - Lawyer verified that when we had the consultation with her, that didn't pertain to him based on the age he was when he arrived in the states. Is the letter fairly generic? It made no mention of prior tax returns either but I am assuming that's something we need to bring as well based upon everything we've read. How long does it take to get the certified tax transcripts from the IRS?

thank you thanks - makes sense -

I have 2 more questions about the N-400 The SSA question - to notifiy the SSA or not. The wording on the instructions confused us - its just a notification correct? We don't want a new number. The workplace question - they have a limited amount of options for workplace(other than work unknown) and we picked the one that seemed to fit best. He's a CNA/Med Tech and we put Healthcare Technician... I guess that makes sense judging from what Google says... I think.

We are filing online - it asks online. It has a box to check if you don't have or know your OAN number (online account number)
-
In the midst of filling out the application online. We've got an online account but can't find the OAN. He's only done a change of address online through his account but I don't believe he received an email for that, that we can find. Do we have one and don't know it or do we just say that we don't know it? Thanks

His should be pretty simple, due to my own overthinking I thought it wise to pay for a consultation with a lawyer. In reality his case is very simple. We haven't been out of the country since 2019, havent moved, he's had the same job... we're pretty borring. However I know myself so I thought it best to talk to someone beforehand. I made the apt but I am not sure we will keep it. The annoyance of the wait might push me to just forgo the lawyer. Or find another one if the wait is truly excessive. I don't know maybe its normal...

I am an overthinker... Lets just preface with that one. My husband would like to just apply for the N-400 and not be bothered with an attorney However, I had some specific questions that I just wanted to go over with an attorney so we agreed to find a lawyer and do a consultation. Finding an attorney proved to be a frustrating process - yes there is the database I can look up, however I was hoping for a referral. I got a few referrals, however none of them worked in naturalization. I finally found someone, emailed her - liked how she responded in the email (personality etc) and called today for an apt. 6 weeks would be her next available apt for a consultation which seems like such a long time away and now I am questioning if this is even worth it, if I can put some of my overthinking to sleep and we can move forward without it. My husband's case is pretty simple. I was hoping to have put in the application before then. Is 6 weeks excessively long (i've consulted with a different type of attorney previously and I was able to talk with them right away)? Also if anyone has worked with an attorney in the greater Philadelphia (pennsylvania) area who works in Naturalization and you liked your lawyer - let me know Thank you
-
Ok so no 'Just Answer' Has anyone talked to an immigration lawyer ? Is there any paid online service where you can talk to an immigration lawyer or do immigration lawyers do paid consultations? I don't need them filling out the form or submitting it, I would just like to verify a few things.

With that being said - am I overthinking about the traffic incident AND the secondary inspection - do they need to be mentioned on the application? Thankfully its not ME who is doing the interview its my husband and he is cool as a cucumber with all of this.
-
So not detained - but would it be 'confined' ? Does anyone think we need to include the secondary inspection? Does anyone think we need to include the traffic incident and go to my insurance company to get the old letter?
-
Thank you so much - I really want to cry right now and my overthinking is in overdrive.
-
Whoops, I apologize - my brain is in several different tabs. Do you know how to delete threads?

Pertaining to 'have you ever been detained' Question. What is the definition of 'detained'? We were traveling back from visiting family, my husband was in the midst of getting his conditions lifted from his green card and we were traveling with his extension letter. At our first port of entry back in the USA the immigration officer pulled him aside to verify the letter. I was in the hall waiting - he was in the office. They asked him a few questions and sent him on his way. The question reads in section 9. 15b. Have you EVER been arrested, cited, detained or confined by any law enforcement officer, military offical (in the us or elsewhere) or immigration offical for any reason, or been charged with a crime or offense? Does our situation match the definition of 'detained' or 'confined'? We didn't get any type of receipt so I wasn't sure how to answer any of the boxes provided for more information. No crime was committed - they pulled him aside to verify his extension letter.
