My name is Christy and I own a retail store in North Lake Tahoe that specializes in South East Asian products. I have rented the same house in Thailand for 7 years and had the shop in Tahoe for 7 years. I spend 7 months in the U.S and 5 in Thailand each year. Last year 2010 I met Mai on a volunteer project on the Burmese Border. He is an artist and we were working at Migrant schools with the children. We fell in love and spent all the rest of my time this year in Thailand together. He is now taking care of the house there. My business is solid but small (the way I like it) I make enough each year to support myself, save some and volunteer where I can. I would like Mai to be able to come and experience the U.S but I don't feel he needs a green card. He is happy in Thailand but would love to come and spend a couple months a year here. Problem is there is no visa set up for our relationship. Looking into K1's and if we even want to go that route as then once he adjust status he has to commit to being in the U.S 6 months a year and I will have to take fewer write offs on the business and pay more in self employment taxes to show 125% of poverty. Here on this forum to do research and decide if this is our best route.
