Thank you! When did you file? There is another member from SF who filed in October and just got her interview date a couple weeks ago. She filed under 5-year rule and has been a resident for a long time just like me. So it's really unpredictable 😕 Fingers crossed your case moves fast!

Right? Lol! I used to have a job where I started at 7am, but at least I didn't have to talk to anyone for a couple hours... Good thing the USCIS office is a walking distance, it will help me oxygenate my brain a bit haha!

I had the same thought as I was in this situation as well (10-year green card expiring in May). The NOA1 you receive in the mail after applying for citizenship extends your green card validity by 2 years (says so on the document). Also, citizenship applications are processed quickly these days. I applied February 1st and just got my interview scheduled for May 14th. In conclusion there's no point in applying for green card renewal and pay the extra fee. Your wife will likely be a citizen before the card would even arrive.

INTERVIEW SCHEDULED!!! 🥳 For May 14th... at 7:35am. I'm not a morning person so I'll have to drink lots of coffee to be able to answer the civics questions 😳 I did receive an email from the USCIS titled "We have taken an action in your case". I thought there were no more email notifications so I don't know if that's a new thing. I'm really excited because I had a terrible week last week (unrelated to the process), and I was prepared to wait several more months based on the recent timelines of other members in San Francisco. Woohoo!

It seems totally dependent on Field Office. I wish you could check a box agreeing to go to another FO if it's faster, lol! I wouldn't mind going to Sacramento or San Jose and they both seem faster than San Francisco. I'd even go to LA, make it an extended weekend 😂

On another subject, I just noticed today that might time estimate on the USCIS website went from 5 back up to 6 months 😐

5-year rule filer here: at first I didn't but then I added a pic of my driver's license, my lease that's 2.5 years old and latest electricity bill (as proof of address), and for now the last 3 years of taxes (will add 2023 once we've filed, and in the process of requesting the oldest by mail since it can't be done online, for 5 years total). You can add documents through your online profile anytime you want. Not required but I thought why not.

Yay!! So happy for you! I guess I need to be prepared to wait for another 3 months or so. San Francisco has same-day oath ceremonies. Someone I know who went through the process a couple years ago was offered this option. I don't know how that works and if it's for everyone or not but I think there's a good chance everything could be done by the end of the day! What time is your interview?

It actually depends more on your Field Office (where your interview will take place). Some areas seem super fast, maybe because they have fewer applicants. But even then it seems inconsistent. I've looked at the Timelines and some people who file from the same city at the same time have very different processing times...

Is your Field Office San Francisco? I haven't seen a lot of other people filing in SF, but the few that filled their Timeline had pretty long average processing times in the past year unfortunately. I was excited to see lots of people who would be done with the whole process within 3 months but I don't think it's happening in SF...

We're in the same situation! That's reassuring because I read things about the process taking possibly longer for people who have been residents for a long time. That didn't make much sense to me and you're proof that it's not necessarily true. Less than 2 weeks from applying to interview notice is amazing though! Not required, it seems many people bring them to the interview instead. Filing and paying your taxes is a requirement to become a citizen so they can ask for proof that you did.

I don't think it's a necessity to upload tax docs, but since you should be able to show you have filed and paid your taxes since you became a resident, it can't hurt. I've read of some people who just bring return transcripts to the interview. Many said the officer didn't ask for them.
