Do you have an I-751 application pending?

Well, a green card as you call it is a Lawful PERMANENT Resident card so obviously not designed for temporary residence. Having your primary residence in the US is required to maintain LPR status, besides the physical presence. From how you describe your situation it looks like you should be on a work visa (maybe a J Visa related to academic work) rather than a permanent resident. I don't know how you got LPR status for your kids, but you had to have said at some point that they lived with you in the US. I'd be very careful to apply for citizenship because the question "where are your kids" is likely to come up and you might run into problems here if the officer thinks you lied about their residence in order to obtain benefits for them that they didn't qualify for.

Are you on the same health insurance plan? That's one thing the officer asked me that I forgot to mention in a previous post. If yes bring proof. Another thing he asked is if we owned a car together. Bring car title if you do. Otherwise, evidence you are each other's beneficiaries for retirement accounts and life insurance obtained through your employer.

I once said "scar-mangled" banner and my husband was like are you okay? 😆 No issue at all, the officer will ask you if you traveled since submitting your application, and you'll just have to give them the dates and destinations.

Are you still married? Did your husband come with you on your last international trip? Have you ever lived apart? Do you own a car together? Do you own a home or rent together? At this point I offered to show him a copy of our lease with both our names on it, and he said yes show me.

I entered on a CR1 Visa so I only ever had green cards. I brought my current one (had expired the day before my oath!). I honestly don't know what I did with my first 2-year green card, I think I destroyed it after receiving the 10-year one. Nobody asked for it. I would bring any valid and expired documents you still have. And yes you can apply for your passport same day if you have everything (photos, payment, naturalization certificate). You'll need to make an appointment at an place that takes the applications (usually post office), unless you have international travel scheduled for the next 2 weeks. Then you can make an appointment at a passport office.

Did you have a lot of travel outside the US in your first 2 years?

Since the I751 has already been approved you won't be interviewed for that application, it's done. However they could still ask you some questions about your marriage, even though you're applying under the 5-year rule, like they did for me. Just be ready to answer any question and bring some evidence of your continuing marriage (lease/house title in both your names, kids birth certificates, tax transcripts showing you filed jointly, etc.) Anything key document you used for your I751 but you probably don't need a ton.

Lots of people are in no rush to apply and file after 5+ years while still married to the same US citizen. I did it this year, you can check my signature for details.

My field office didn't let anyone accompany applicants, except for two I saw assisting elderly or disabled folks. I also saw one lawyer with their client. Otherwise no luck! I'm glad mine was more approachable, it helped me feel less nervous!

As long as you have the letter with the date, I wouldn't worry about what your status says!

That is a big plus. You won't get a combo interview or your oath delayed by a pending I-751.

In our little group, after 3 months we have 27 filers with an interview date out of 41. That's 65%. Even considering some may not have updated us, that means about a 30% of cases don't yet have an interview scheduled after 3 months. So unlucky sure, but nothing rare or unusual.

Honestly there's no rhyme or reason. I'm sure they're meant to process cases in the order they were submitted, yet it doesn't mean getting an answer in the same order. Maybe some background checks take longer because of a more common name or something else, maybe a case went to an officer who's slower, who knows. I only heard from one other San Francisco filer and she had her interview just a couple weeks before me, even though she had applied in October of last year 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wouldn't freak out as long as you're within estimated processing time. (And even then I wouldn't freak out, but I would definitely start calling and contacting my senator if nothing moves)

Yup, definitely a bug on their side. Good thing at the citizenship stage they can correct at interview without trouble or delay. I know they released a new version of the form since we filed, hopefully they fixed that.
