Thank you for your comments. I live in California. I'll check with the financing company to see if I can do reliability only while I'm away.

Hi,
I'm planning to go back to Japan for 4 months.
Do I have to keep my car insurance?
Nobody will drive my car while I'm out of country.
I'm still making car payments and have a full coverage insurance on it.
Does anyone know about this?
Thanks!

I'm just wondering at which point my wife's interview date at US Embassy in Tokyo will be assigned. Is it when our case is completed at NVC and sent to Japan?
Also is there enough time between 'case complete' to interview? She wants to travel for 3 weeks.
Thanks!

OK. Thank you all so much. Finally everything made sense inside of my slow head. Thank you!

My father claims mother, my sister (over 21), and me (over 21) as dependents.
-
Sorry to make a new thread just for this, but I can't quite figure out what my household size is. I (petitioner) has no income, so my father is the joint sponsor. We're both filing out I-864s.
My family
a.Father
b.Mother
c.Grandmother
d.Me
e.My Wife
f.Sister
a to d are living under the same roof.
e will be living with us when she comes to US.
f is living in a different place, but she is a dependent of my father according to his tax document.
c is not a dependent of my father according to his tax info.
In this case, my household size is 2 (me and my wife) and my father's household size is 5(dad, mom, me, my wife, my sister)?
I feel like I'm thinking too much and making things more complicated than it is. Please help!
-
It's great there has been no further argument on this matter. Use this portion of the I-864a instructions to confirm what I've told you.
Form I-864A may only be used when a sponsor's income and
assets do not meet the income requirements of Form I-864 and
the qualifying household member chooses to combine his or
her resources with the income and/or assets of a sponsor to
meet the requirements.
OK. Thanks for your reply. I understand that we both need to fill out I-864 and no need for I-864A. In that case I would put '2' for my household size and 0.00 for my household income(24c)right? Otherwise item 24d doesn't make too much sense? Then my father says '6' for the household size.

I was under the assumption that both my father and I file I-864, however after reading the I-864A instruction I got confused because I thought it applies to my situation perfectly. I was reading other threads similar to this and found some people saying that if we're living in the same house we can complete the application with me filing I-864 and my father doing I-864A. This is what my wife thought after reading the official instruction as well. Can someone clarify this?
-
Ok wait, so I'm confused now. My dad only need to fill out I-864A?? No I-864 for him?
-
I just started to fill out form I-864. I recently graduated from college and am studying for graduate school right now. I've never been employed so I've never filed tax return either. With this situation we're sending in two I-864 forms (1 from me & 1 from my father) and a I-864A form. There are something I'm confused about on the form I-864.
6. Principal immigrant's A-number.
my wife has had 3 F-1 visa numbers. Should I list all of them with an attachment paper?
21. Household size.
I don't really know what my household number is. Me and my wife and that's 2, but since I have no income I need to include my parents, grandmother(parents are supporting her financially), and sister (over 21, full time student with a part time job) as well? That would be 6. If so, both my father and I put '6' on item 21 of our I-864?
22. I'm currently unemployed since...
It's like since I was born, but should I put my 15th birthday?
Sorry for listing so many questions. Hope someone help me out with these. Thanks!

So yes what is the DHS "A" number on the question #35 of DS-230 form? My wife was staying in US as a F-1 student and did have a social security number during OPT. I have no idea what "A" number they're talking about here. Please help. Thanks.

Hi everyone,
So there are 2 sets of documents we need to send in: the application packet & affidavit of support packet
My wife is preparing her application in Japan and I'm doing the same for the affidavit in the US. Can we send them in separately to NVC? Or is it better if we send them together (ask my wife to send her application to me and I will send them both to NVC).
I think either way works, but maybe sending them together makes the process smoother?
Any idea on this?

Update:
So I called NVC and the next day they sent me an email with 4 page letter. Nothing case specific. It just said follow the instruction on state.gov and submit applications. It did came with the cover page with the barcode.
Thanks everyone!
-
Thank you all so much for the comments. I will follow the link provided here and start gathering all the documents we need. Now the question is do I need to wait until NVC send us the instruction email to send the package in?
-
Just wait, you should received a letter from NVC with the checkilist.
I will? Do they mail the checklist to me (the agent) or email? Just pay $88 and $404 and wait, that's fine right? I'm frustrated. Can I do something while I wait?
-
Hi,
So I just paid $404 and received an email titled "Receipt for IV Case." I know the next step is sending in a DS-230 packet. But where is the instruction. Where can I find what to be included in the packet besides the DS-230 form. Will NVC inform me about this? I'm so confused and behind. Please help. Thanks.

Can anyone clarify this, please?

O Ok, so put "Tokyo, Japan" even if she's not in the US and is not adjusting status, correct?
-
Hi,
So I have a question regarding the section 22 of Form I-130.
This section reads: "22. Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status."
"Your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in:"
My relative (wife) is in Japan and so she is not adjusting her 'status.' So I can just skip this section collect?
Or, I should answer "Tokyo, Japan" after "If your relative is not eligible for adjustment of status, he or she will apply for a
visa abroad at the American consular post in:"
I'm confused.

Great info. Thanks. I almost put "American"!!!
Thank you so much!

Hi there,
another quick question. On the form G-325A, there is a section asking my citizenship/nationality. I am a US citizen. So should I put "US citizen" or American, USA, etc...? For my wife's G-325A, she just put "Japanese" because the sample we found on VJ said "Australian."
Thanks!

for this purpose, once there is a legal adoption, the biological father ceases to exist
OK. Thank you!

Collision + comprehensive coverage + liability = full coverage? I was thinking liability is a must have. Sorry if I'm saying things that don't make sense, but this thing is confusing!
