  1. I get where you're coming from but it's not ethically, morally or legally right to do that. We can't stoop to their level. Any person in our captivity: needs to get fed, be able to sleep and be given medical attention. If we want to kill them, we need to have a proper trial first.
  2. Smart thing would be delaying your plans until after she naturalizes.
  3. I'm for changing the law on death penalty in Israel: right now it only applies to Nazis complicit in the Holocaust, I think it should be "crimes against the Jewish people" to include the atrocities of 7th October. IMHO terrorists who took part in 7th October are simply not fit to live among humans. Since we're not going to drop them on a deserted island they need to be executed. After due process, of course. Hang them, because we're civilized people, unlike them. (Otherwise I'd say kill them very slowly, chopping off a small body part a day until they die....) But we're civilized...... I'm not an international lawyer but IMO they're not POWs. Nevertheless, they should be treated humanely in the meantime simply because you treat people who are in your captivity humanely. That's a universal ethical obligation. One that they ignored but we shouldn't.
  4. Because ultimately it's bad for us & bad for them to rule over them on a non-equal footing. So for both our sakes. Yes, all these. My family lives in TX, also don't encounter it much but it exists. Not so long ago in Dallas Jews were kept in a hostage situation in a synagogue....
  5. The birth certificate is not being submitted to USCIS but to the consulate.
  6. Any specific reason you don't just want to go with the DNA test option? Seems straightforward, if not exactly cheap...
  7. Really sorry to hear that her ethnic group is being targeted for killing by the government. That's absolutely horrible.
  8. Oy, and I was touched by his first speech regarding all this (I'm not a fan of him, or really any politician)...
  9. Germans invented the word "anti-semitism", basically to make "Jew-hatred" sound better & more respectable/scientific/as a legitimate political philosophy....
  10. Oh wow! That's...... hard to find words. Did British Mandate law also prescribed death as punishment? I somewhat doubt it...
  11. Yes, indeed on both fronts. The other concern and the main one here, obviously, is enemy infiltration but with the extra army presence I do feel very safe.
  12. Right now, yes, we're getting less sirens than Tel Aviv & South Jerusalem, haven't had a siren for over a week. There are additional IDF troops staying in our village, too. 100% agree. I'm not on X but reddit, oy. Literally, today I read a comment that said "If someone is not condemning both Hamas & the IDF then they're extremely biased." I don't even know where to start! People equating terrorist attack victims to civilian victims of the bombing of Gaza ("it's all murder") and don't misunderstand me, all CIVILIAN death is horrible but INTENT matters.... People saying "cease fire & negotiations should happen" and I ask them if the US should have negotiated with Al-Qaeda after 9/11 and they tell me Hamas isn't Al-Qaeda? Like, what??? I just get so discouraged sometimes.
  13. You filed 2 separate I-130s, correct? One for your mother & another for your father?
  14. The more often you re-apply, the more desperate you'll seem, the more unlikely it'll be to get an approval.
  15. Virtually guaranteed denial, however you have nothing to lose by attending the interview for the tourist visa (besides the visa application fee, of course).
  16. Thank you for asking. I'm in a reasonably safe area. No siren since Monday evening. Lots of extra soldiers around the village keeping us safe, there was some minor incident near a nearby Arab village on Thursday evening, I heard shots, it was over quickly (local security-related whatsapp group confirmed it wasn't just training exercises). Nothing since. That incident, if anything, made me feel more safe because it's obvious our village is well protected.
  17. I completely forgot visajourney has a politics forum, I never frequented it before. I'm in Israel. I've been staying here on a (very) extended visit since March 2020 (with plans to make aliyah, eventually). Since March 2020, I believe this is my 3rd or 4th time that rockets are being fired from Gaza in bigger numbers - or at least I thought it will be just a "routine" occurrence like that.... Until I read about the massacres. Although I live in a religious community, I myself am not 100% observant and so I went online after I was woken up by faint sirens (at the time it was not ours but the next sector's over from us) and explosions on Saturday morning. I don't have words. I love Israel with all my heart, since the first time I set foot in this beautiful country, over 15 years ago and while walking towards passport control still inside the airport, I looked out the window, saw palm trees and the thought just hit me: "That's it, I'm home, one day I'll move to this country!" I cannot rightly explain it, other than it was like falling in love with a person except it was falling in love with a country, instead. Now, Israel fights for its very survival, once again. It crossed my mind for a hot second to leave but I could not forgive myself. I'd betray who I am at the core. I converted to Judaism over 10 years ago. I knowingly accepted the Jewish people's fate as my own fate. There's no turning back now. It's heartening to see this thread. It's disheartening to see social media. Hamas supporters denying & celebrating the atrocities at the same time. (How does that work?)..... The false equivalency ("both sides are just as bad as each other")... What utter nonsense (I'd use a different word if it wasn't for the rules about profanity)! I'm in a relatively safe area (in Judea, south of Jerusalem, in Gush Etzion, in a so-called settlement). We had sirens on the first day, 7/10 and one on 9/10. The rockets are not a major concern for this area. Possible infiltration from our neighboring Arab villages, however, is what I'm more worried about. There were gunshots nearby tonight and we had a notification that there was disturbance in the neighboring village which the army quickly took care of. We hear faint rumblings day and night, that's Gaza being bombed. I hope each and every Hamas member is killed including the leaders who are safely in their palaces abroad. They deserve it. I hope for the least possible amount of civilian deaths in Gaza. It's war. War is horrible. Israel didn't start this war but Israel will finish it. Anyway, thank you for reading my rant.
  18. That affidavit may do more harm than good. I'd not submit that. I wouldn't marry, either. Not until well after ROC is approved.
  19. AFAIK you're not eligible to file for AOS unless you already have an approved waiver. From the I-485 instructions: "If you are or were a J-1 or J-2 nonimmigrant exchange visitor and are subject to the 2-year foreign residence requirement of INA section 212(e), you may not apply to adjust status unless you have complied with the foreign residence requirement, have been granted a waiver of that requirement, or were issued a favorable waiver recommendation letter from U.S. Department of State (DOS)."
