My stepchildren's birth mother passed away after a battle with lung cancer in March of 2011. At the time of her death, my stepchildren were in her custody in their home country of Honduras. By September of the same year they were stateside with us, albeit with very little English comprehension. Fast forward nearly two years and they are now bilingual. It has been a difficult and rewarding journey thus far. Our next step will be my adopting them. They are wonderful kids and we feel truly blessed to have them with us.
