Congrats, Visanese! That's great news. My fiancée and I are getting married in Japan in a couple weeks and then we'll start the CR-1 visa process. I see in your timeline you had to obtain a Canadian police certificate. My fiancée is going to have to obtain one as well as she lived their for 1 year. When did you start trying to obtain yours? I heard the Canadian certificate can take a long time. Should she file for it after I send in the petition? Any advice is appreciated.
I'd say start prepping it early. We had to extend the petition because of the time it took us to obtain the Canadian Police Record. I think it took 4 months.
If you haven't cheeck the website, here it is for your reference. RCMP
I contacted RCMP and requested a form C-216 (I receied 3 copies, just in case)which was mailed to my US address, then I mailed to my fiancee in Japan.
My fiance took the form to a local Japanese Police station (main branch of where your fiancee reside). Call the station to see if appointment is necessary.
Your fiancee needs Japanse police record so inquir about it at the same time!
I had my fiancee mailed the fingerprinted form to me in the US, and mail the request for the police record along with the Canadian Money Order.
If you have any questions, let me know.

It was a long and hard process being a part during the K-1, but we are now married and received a green card.
Wish you guys all the best.

Our long journey is over for now until the removal of condition in 2 years:)

Hello August'11 filers!
Glad to see some of you already have EAD & SS#.
Despite out quick NOA2 approval, it was a rough ride for us.
Took forever to get a foreign police record and extension was requested for our approval.
Then on the interview, it did not go well from the beginning and end up getting an AP (Administrative Processing)...
Good news is that we got married in August, almost a year later since we filed our K-1
and ready to file AOS this month.
Just wanted to drop in and say;
Whatever the stage you may be in, good luck everyone!
-
I noticed you got your NOA2 just a month after NOA1, was it expedited? Hold on there, you and your fiancee will surely be together this March, the interview stage is just a piece of cake
Thanks! My petition was filed normally. Not expedited.
-
I hope all goes well with my fiancee's interview!
-
My fiancee's interview is scheduled for 2/27! Had a bump in this LDR but she will be here in March if no issues with the interview:)
-
My fiancee has instruction from US Embassy (Tokyo), but we are on hold for now.
Since we are still waiting a police record from Canada, we can hold off for a while (ETA for the police record is in Nov/Dec).
I spent 5 days with my fiancee in Japan in Sept. Everything went well, and had a great time. We talked about futures, life in the states
etc.. and she was very positive. I think it started with the NOA2, and packet 3 from embassy, she is now dealing with her worries and doubt
about getting married and move to the states. It's a big life changing event and I fully support and understand where she is coming from, but
I have to admit, it is very tough to support with the LDR.
In the US, it's cold feet, but in Japanese, it's a "marriage blue" that everyone is expected go through.
Any of you Japan filers' fiancee have/had any of this? As all of you are aware, coming from a major city in Japan to
the State is a huge life changing event. How do you support your fiancee? Any advice?
I may have to fly out there this month to have a face to face conversation with her...

Really? Umm I wonder if it has anything to do with the accuracy of the documents filled out, as well as the amount/quality of PROOF EVIDENCE one provides in the application.
It could be if it's totally 'obvious' the relationship is bona-fide, they slip it to the top of the next pile and pump it out quickly.
Your time-frame seems pretty rare.
I know everyone is patiently waiting for NOA2, and my fast approval made anyone angry,I apologize.
My intention was simply to share my experience. It could be pure luck, or even an error by CSC workers to process mine before someone's. I don't know...
I've used local attorney who have processed hundreds of K-1 or other petitions, most of them with issues and potentially difficult cases. He even told me that the use of attorney in my case is not necessary. He was up front with everything and honest, so I decided to hire him anyway. I used him for advices, and review of my documents that I prepared.
After several reviews on my petition and supporting documents, I felt the package was solid. Although my attorney only had several Japan fiancee cases, he told me that all his Japan cases were approved in 2~3 months period (after NOA1). Again, it could just be a pure luck.
I focused on "quality" supporting documents rather than the quantity to show our relationship is genuine. I've been together with my fiancee for 3 yrs now, only a part (LDR) and engaged for about a year. During LDR, I've made a trip to see her twice, and planning to do so again this winter.
Like I said in the other post, it is very difficult to be a part with your loved one. I, sincerely hope everyone a fast/timely approval and wish all of us to be together with your fiance/fiancee soon.
Regards,
-
Soon or later it will come
My expectation was about 5 months so I didn't count days, but to my surprise, it was approved in 4+ weeks (CSC).
-
It's hard to be separated with your loved one for long time especially during the holiday season.
Wish you all a quick approval (NOA2)
-
My NOA2 was on 9/20, NVC just forwarded the petition to Embassy on 10/13.
Takes at least few weeks, no?
-
How on earth did you get your NOA2 so fast?
Not sure, but I sure am happy for the fast approval:)
I just called NVC this morning and found my petition was forwarded to Tokyo on 10/13.
My fiancee should receive Package 3 by the end of the week or next week!
Hope yours go smooth, too.
-
Just stopping in to say "Hello" to fellow Japan filers!
-
I used an attorney for our K-1 petition. If I knew of this website, I wouldn't have used one.
However, my attorney did find few of my errors on the petition/supporting documents, so I'd say having a second set of eyes always help.
