Question about prior year tax transcripts.
Still waiting for IRS to MAIL me a validation code to get my transcripts (I can't access my US-based cell phone for the validation code and it's been 11 days already for the mail, they said 5-10) but I had someone back in the US send me scans of my W2's and 1099's.
First of all I understand that I don't NEED to send more than one year. I haven't filed 2019 yet. 2018 gross was $191,000. I planned to submit 2018, 17 and 16 just to possibly avoid an RFE for additional years. Or am I doing myself a disservice by sending prior years? Below can't be an unusual case.
2018 I filed as Single as I divorced in 2018. Have W2 and 1099 for that one.
2017 and 2016 I was previously married. If I submit the transcripts for those two years and only send W2 and 1099 for me will they just take that as all that i am claiming as my income and assume any other income was my ex-wife's? That would be the case. Or should I submit her W2 as well so it is clear and the total on the transcript would match the total on the W2s and 1099? I have them and could send if needed or would that confuse the issue?
I'mm not worried about having enough to qualify. I'm trying to decide based on my 2018 income which is the least likely to get an RFE - Sending 2018 only or sending 2017 and 2016 as well and having an ex wife on the transcripts?
