Hello all. Forgive me if this question has been asked before. I ve adopted my stepson after he and my wife entered USA last year. He s 5 years old and understand he becomes a US citizen once the adoption was final. I ve applied for his US passport and submitted the required documents. Today I received a letter from the New Orleans passport office asking to send:

original adoption documents (sent with passport app)

original marriage certificate between I and his mother (sent with passport app)

send his green card or I-55 stamp (sent a certified copy as per calling and confirming it was ok)

and they requested documents showing he s been in my care or custody for the last two years. That I ve not sent

how to send any documents pertaining to being in my care due to the fact we lived in Ukraine for the last 4 years since being married. Ukraine doesn t have such documents, and due to the fact I m not required to file taxes, plus they not having SSN card until coming into USA last year, what can I show? I do have his insurance card stating he s had insurance for the last four year, however it shows his previous last name. I ve requested new insurance cards with his new last name, but my insurance (ChampVA) is 7 months backlogged in processing new information. Any advice is much appreciated.

thank you

Hi guys,

I filed N-400 on May 23, then checked processing times in San Francisco and rested assured that I had at least a year to wait. On August 19th, I suddenly got an urge to check my status. I opened it and saw that yesterday (August 18th) my case status changed to Interview scheduled . Now I am freaking out! The point is that on August 27th I am moving out of California, and for 2-3 weeks I will be travelling across the country, then I will be living in my camper which means I will not have an address for several months. I am waiting for the paper NOA but if I don t get it by EOD August 26th, I ll have to redirect my mail to a friend.

My first question: how long does it take USCIS to send the NOA after the case status changed? In the notification they say: we will mail you the NOA but I don t know if they have already done it or not.

Second question: will it cause significant delays and troubles if I move my interview date to another day and change the state? I have a feeling that it is better to fly to San Francisco from the East Coast and NOT try to reschedule the interview. Not sure what to do

I will appreciate your answers and suggestions on the situation. Thank you!!!!!

Hi:

My wife applied for her US passport and passport card with expedited service on July 26th. She received both her US passport and passport card, no problem. First was the passport through Fedex and later regular mail for passport card, just few days ago (3 maybe). At what point do we have to consider the certificate of Naturalization to be lost? It's been almost 4 weeks now. Any current passport filers did not get their certificate back still?

Thanks

I have been trying to schedule a medical exam for my Ukranian fianc through the link I was sent to the Frankfurt, Germany doctor's website. I have to schedule using the doctolib link on that site but all I get when I click "Reason for Visit- Medical Exam USA" is an error that says "Sorry. An error has occurred." I've used multiple browsers and different IP addresses, but I still can't get it to work. Does anyone know if there are technical problems? Or what the problem could be? I sent the doctor's office an email so I will see if they respond tomorrow. Thanks!

I-751/N-400 with name change

I've got a question for the board. If anyone has had specific prior experience with this, or a mod with some knowledge or background on this topic, I would appreciate any guidance you can offer.

Our I-751 is going down the road at 'turtle' speed so we are likely to submit the N-400 in two months to see if that speeds things up <insert your laughter here>.

We have an interesting situation. When my wife moved from her country of birth to the country of her current citizenship decades ago, there was a translation peculiarity (it wasn't a mistake, it was done on purpose, it's just how the translation was happening at the time) and they added a letter to the beginning of her first name. My wife didn't like this one bit but was a very young woman at the time and didn't press the issue and lived with this peculiarity. Fast forward to now she's been steadfast in her desire to correct the first name to the one of her original birth here in America.

We have two options:

1) On the N-400 there is a section where you can change your name. Assuming the USCIS approves the change (I can't see why not), when my wife passes the citizenship process we would have to wait for a judicial oath ceremony rather than an admin oath ceremony. My understanding is admin oath ceremonies happen at a much greater frequency. Going the route of a judicial oath ceremony would likely take longer but I don't know how much longer. I shudder at another 12 month wait over one flipping letter in her first name

2) Get her name changed in a court locally and then send the appropriate documentation to the USCIS after the N-400 has been received. The issue with this is, for a time, she will have a legal name different from what is on her green card... i.e. until the naturalization process is complete

For those with prior experience, background or knowledge, what do you think is the better option? I prefer #1 (not sure why, I just do) but am not sure about the frequency of oath ceremonies. This is already taking long enough. I mean if it tacks on 2-3 months max then I will do #1 all the way. If it could take a ridiculously long time, suddenly #1 doesn't seem so appealing. Thanks in advance.
