Over 200,000 H-1B visa workers could lose legal status by June

manasi Vasavada has less than three weeks left before she loses her legal right to be in the country. The dental practice in Passaic County, New Jersey, where Vasavada, 31, has worked for almost two years closed its doors in mid-March due to Covid-19. She has been on an unpaid leave of absence ever since.

Vasavada is in the country on an H-1B visa, a temporary visa program designed for people with specialized skills. H-1B recipients can only remain in the country legally for 60 days without being paid. Her husband Nandan Buch, also a dentist, is in the country on an H-1B visa that expires in June. They have been watching the days tick by with growing fear.

There may soon come a point when the couple can t stay and can t go: India, their home country, has closed its borders indefinitely. They also have a combined $520,000 in student loans from the advanced dental degrees they completed at U.S. universities, which would be nearly impossible to pay back on the salaries they would earn in India. The stress has caused Buch, also 31, to start losing his hair. Neither of them is sleeping well. Everything is really confusing and dark right now, said Vasavada. We don t know where we will end up.

Hi! When I printed my I-485, some boxes were. not checked for some reason. (I did check all of them)

Anyways. I got my whole package back from USCIS and I have now checked the boxes that were not checked but I am wondering if it is okay to send them the same I-485, with no new signature or date written?

I want to mail my whole package again first thing in the morning.
Thank you very much.

Stephen Miller has long-term vision for Trump’s ‘temporary’ immigration order, according to private call with supporters

Trump senior policy adviser Stephen Miller told White House supporters in a private call this week that the president s new executive order curbing immigration will usher in the kind of broader long-term changes to American society he has advocated for years, even though the 60-day measures were publicly characterized as a pause during the coronavirus pandemic.

Miller, the chief architect of the president s immigration agenda and one of his longest-serving and most trusted advisers, spoke to a group of Trump surrogates Thursday in an off-the-record call about the new executive order, which had been signed the night before. Although the White House had seen the move as something that would resonate with Trump s political base, the administration instead was facing criticism from immigration hard-liners who were disappointed that the order does not apply to temporary foreign workers despite Trump pitching it as helping to protect jobs for Americans.

Do I need to maintain F1 status while in the process of AOS?

Hi everyone. I'm so thankful for this site.

I have a question, I'm in the process of AOS. I have sent USCIS the whole application according to the guide on this site. I am waiting for their response.
Right now i'm studying, and school is so much worse now that they have moved it online (teachers don't care as much, and my school is all about networking, which is no longer possible.)

The school is firm about wanting 7000 dollars for tuition even though i'm losing out on so much that the school would normally offer.
What i want to do right now is save my 7000 dollars so that me and my wife will be economically secure until my application is completed and I can get a job.

Am I allowed to drop out of school before i've gotten a decision for my AOS? (My F1 status will no longer be valid)

Thank you.

Travelling internationally during the immigration ban without green card

Hi!

What are your ideas and concerns about travelling abroad during this pandemic and 60 day immigration ban, if you only have access to your I-551 stamp in your passport and still waiting for your green card to be mailed to you? Would I, for example, have issues coming back into the country, after my trip, without my green card, or am I still fine with my passport and stamp? I have been waiting for my green card since I paid the fee and arrived here at the end of January.

Thank you for all your support and advice!
