Hi guys,

I am still new in the process of AoS after marrying a US citizen (I sent the package 3 weeks ago and still did not receive my NOA1). Let's pray that everything goes well, but meanwhile, I was wondering how long the medical exam lasts once you do it. I did not include it in my package but I am now in my summer break until the school starts and I was thinking to do the exam now that I have plenty of time and take it to the interview later, even though the interview is gonna take a lot of months from now.

I read on the official website that this medical exam currently lasts 2 years, which I assume would be valid when I have my interview, but other sources and comments here in VJ say that it lasts 1 year. So well, does it last 1-year o 2 years? would you recommend me to do now or I should wait a little more?

Thank you!

CR1 (abroad), NVC not sending case to embassy?

Hi!

We have been doing the CR1/IR1 process since March 2019 in Spain. A month ago, we got an email from NVC informing us that they'll be sending our case to the local embassy/consulate, but we didn't get any posterior confirmation about this. CEAC says that the case is 'currently in' NVC. The embassy just officially announced that they'll start processing their routine visa services in a few days, but it's my understanding that if the case is in NVC they'll not process ours.

We've tried contacting the NVC about this but we haven't heard back.

Is anybody in the same situation? What is recommended to do here?

--- Just after posting this, I realized that there's an NVC specific subforum, but I can't figure out how to move it there. Maybe the mods can move it?

N400, spouse's passport expired

Hi everyone. My wife is filling out the N400 and needs to give evidence that I am a US citizen. I doesn't have a certified copy of my birth certificate on hand, and my current passport expired in February of this year. Does my passport need to be valid, or is sending a picture of my expired passport okay? I am going to renew it either way, but it's going to take a while because of Covid.

Thanks!

F1 cannot study if University goes online

Hi,

Not sure if it's the appropiate forum but ICE announced today that F1 student visas cannot remain in the US if the University where they're studying decides to move the classes online.

This sounds really scary and let's see how it progresses because it might impact a lot of students already in the US or those applying for visas outside.

Countries Open to US and EU Travelers

Hello friends,

I'm hoping to begin a discussion (or find an existing one!) regarding the options we LDR-ers have for meeting our significant others in countries other than our own. As we all know, many borders have closed to international visitors since the beginning of the pandemic. Most information posted online is not being maintained as current, or lacks specific clarity. We've begun contacting local embassies and consulates general individually, but even they have been reluctant to give definitive answers.

I am a US citizen, living in NY, and my fiance is a French citizen, living in Barcelona. Neither of our countries are currently permitting us to visit in our homes. We are looking for places to go this month - countries that are open to both US and EU travelers- so we can see each other for the first time in six months! I've also teamed up with a friend in a similar situation, with a boyfriend in the Netherlands, and we think we need more minds on this.

If anyone is aware of a country with its borders open to both the US and EU, please let me know, and provide your confidence level and a source for this information, if you can ? I'm compiling this information in a Google Sheet, and I'll be happy to share with everyone here.

So far, we've only been able to confirm Aruba (for July 1- EU, and July 10-US) - though the flight routes from Spain are far less than ideal, we can make it work if need be. We just want to explore all options, and find the most cost-effective and convenient option. We were also looking closely at Puerto Rico, but have sought confirmation from the local embassies, and they have either been reluctant to answer with any definitiveness, or have just avoided answering the question entirely.

Even five minds are better than our four - but a hundred would be awesome!

Thank you so much!

Tara
