What happens if you do not bring birth certificate to AOS interview?

I realized a couple weeks ago that we do not have the original birth certificate (a copy of which sent with the AOS application). It is not a birth certificate, but rather the foreign document that the State Dept deems equivalent.

I can t recall, but we either misplaced it while moving, or the copy was submitted was a scan that my spouse s mother sent us via email. Either way, she could not find it either.

It took time for her to go to the government office and get new one reissued. She mailed the new one to us with the fastest service, but it still has not arrived. It appears to have left my spouse s home country and USPS has yet to receive it. We have less than a week left until the interview. We will also have to have it re-translated as I assume certain items in the document will have changed from the initial one submitted (date of issue, etc).

What happens if it doesn t arrive in time for our AOS interview and they ask to see it?

I got married based on k1 visa and sent i485, i 765, and i131 the other day.

I have a 9 year old daughter with k2 visa.

We couldn't get SSN after the marriage, the SSN office told us they could issue SSN unless I have a work permission.

We told them that we should be eligible for SSN, but they didn't listen.

We gave up and applied for ITIN instead for my husband's tax return.

I will get SSN when i765 is approved, but what about my daughter? Can she get one after getting green card?

If not, how can she get her SSN?

Thank you

Clarifying some things with IR-1

I, the sponsor, have a few questions/ things I'd like to get clarified regarding the remainder of my visa process.

1) Probably the most easily answered is that I believe I need to have just under $44,000 for a household size of 6 (Me, my wife, and my four kids). My plan was to get a job offer from my company (U.S. based, I'm not working overseas) and use that to prove AOS. I'm now considering adding a family member for AOS, instead.

2) Related to the above, I'm trying to finish up the AOS and I'm stuck on the portion where it says to list dependents/children who will be immigrating with my spouse. Since I have transmitted my U.S. citizenship to my kids i.e. they are U.S. citizens, is this still required? If so, it would mean I would have to fill out additional paperwork for each child, something that would be nice to avoid.

3) I was trying to be proactive and have my wife pick up her "Criminal History Certificate" from the Police HQ in Saitama. They told her she needed a document indicating what type of information they would need to provide. I read on the Japan embassy website that "Instructions from the NVC" or other documents would suffice, but I don't think I've received any specific instructions from the NVC apart from the paper that says her visa portal account had been created and to follow the 12-steps to finish the process. I also read on here that the instructions would be sent in Japanese. Can someone please confirm?

Thanks for assisting!

We didn’t have a wedding ceremony or purchase engagement rings. Concern for AOS interview?

Apologies for the second thread, but I feel this is a distinct enough topic to warrant its own discussion.

My spouse and I did not have a wedding ceremony or purchase engagement rings. It s also not something that we plan to do, though we may purchase rings in the future, it s not a priority at all. There was no proposal or any event like that, we simply discussed that we wanted to get married after having been together already for many years.

We have plenty of other evidence of a relationship. Joint bank accounts, life insurance for both of us, joint utilities bills, lease, health insurance, etc.

Is this a concern for the AOS interview?

Are K1 applications materials/originals needed for the AOS interview, or only the AOS application materials?

I m asking because some of the original material (documents, etc) submitted with the K1 package is in my spouse s country and not with us, and I m not sure if we will be able to obtain that in time for the AOS interview. Will this be a problem?

The AOS interview letter only mentions bringing originals from the AOS application (or at least, that is what it seems to imply).

Should we be concerned and be rushing to obtain originals?
