Jamaica - Observation

My son had successful interview today (3/15).

As a side note to my fellow Jamaicans, based on my son's observation: (out of maybe 15 interviewees at that sitting, my son and another guy got approved - WHY?)

1. Please please be prepared for your interviews, this could be a great opportunity for you to advance in life. At least you will have choices.

2. Don't be prissy before you even get your visa approved - respect interviewers and people around you

3. DO YOUR HOMEWORK - read, read and read more

4. Research on what the steps are before your interview (1 person didn't even do their medical)

5. Check your documents, make sure you have every single paper ready - you never know what they are going to ask for.

6. Tell the truth - they already know the answers

7. Relax and enjoy the day at the Embassy - it's just a change in life not the end of your life.

Good luck everyone!!!!

Culture Based Narcissism?

It s been quite awhile since I ve been on this site participating in discussions. When my husband (now ex husband) was first denied in 2014, I took it as my mission to help others in my situation. I did that for a few years.
Well now I m back here trying to turn another negative into a positive and hoping my pain can again help others. After 5.5 years of marriage, I have discovered that I am a victim of a covert narcissist who (along with the enabling of his family) used me for a green card and a new life. I am here to speak my truth and hopefully bring awareness to Covert Narcissism, a personality disorder rampant within a society plaqued by systemic poverty and survivalist mentality.
Yes, now looking back I see the red flags I ignored and signs of deceit but it was so subtle and not knowing anything about covert narcissism I was completely blindsided.

My intention is to make future posts to help point out the signs of narcissistic personality disorder so others have the knowledge that I didn t have. Being in a long distance relationship makes it very difficult to really know a person s true character and intentions because of the limited time spent in person. It s so easy for these people to hide their real self and create a fake persona of who you want them to be. I have personally heard the stories of over a dozen women that have been take advantage of by these types of people. The events and behaviors are almost identical.

I encourage anyone who has experienced this to share your story. I am a safe place and you can also private message me.

FIling N400 while I130 pending (separated from spouse)

Hi all, some background: Married my partner in Jamaica, as petitioner I filed I130 in 2020, still pending. Friendship & marriage deteriorated, we're separated but per Jamaican law we have to have been separated for a year if married at least 2 years to legally file for divorce; he's still in Jamaica - never visited US.

I get to file to naturalize in 3 weeks.

1. Do I need to contact USCIS and cancel the pending I130 before I submit or just let it lapse? I've removed him from my bank accounts, life insurance policies, etc

2. When submitting my application, am I filing as separated? All my taxes since 2020 were filed as single because he does not have a tax ID or SSN.

3. Prolly silly/sentimental: I currently use his last name on most of my documents esp since I used those on our I130 application, except my Ja passport & driver's license - is Firstname Middlename Maidenname Marriedame a sensible/valid choice?

I no longer consider myself married, and I'm not sure how to submit my application while I have no divorce decree or anything to indicate we're separated except for a random text between us last year. Will my separation have any effect on my filing for naturalization? I'm hoping it won't matter, tbh.

Thanks.

I-130 for Mother. Help me understand the process some more

I filed I-130 for my mother who lives outside the US in March 2021 and received an NOA with receipt number shortly after. I've been checking the case status on USCIS and it currently says "Case is being actively reviewed". How long is I-130 taking for parents these days?

Also, after I-130 is approved, what's next? I'm not so clear on all the steps that come after.

Is it also true that my mother can live with me while I-130 is pending?
