Negative attitudes in the forum

I wanted to address the negative attitudes we have seen on the rise recently in the upper/ immigration forums towards those who ask beginner/ simple questions, or have unusually fast or slow VisaJourneys.

First, there is a tone difference between the Progress forums- which are mostly for support and cheerleading, and the Info forums, which are mostly to have questions answered. While all our forums are supposed to be welcoming to all and friendly, this is especially important in the Progress forums, which are not to discuss politics, or be negative towards those fortunate to have their case dealt with quickly, or critical of those who voice sadness about their own slow progress. These forums are there to uplift eachother!

Secondly- in the info forums, you may get bad news. When a question is asked, our members are encouraged to answer truthfully, even if this may not be what the Op wants to hear, because it is important to be informed. However, the emphasis is still on being welcoming and friendly. If you need to give bad news, do so gently, and stick to facts; constructive criticism of the Op's plans ARE allowed, but the emphasis is on constructive. No need to dwell on mistakes (or tell members they should be on 90 Day Fiance- that is a personal attack and automatic suspension), or illegal actions in the past- instead, encourage and explain legal options for the future. And ONLY legal options- as per our TOS, VJ does not support, condone or encourage illegal (immigration) actions, and such posts will be removed.

Ultimately, we are here to help all members, old and new, easy cases and complicated, those who write a fact filled bullet point post and those who are panicking and don't make much sense in their first post. Yes, sometimes questions can be easily googled, or answered via a search of our forums. But if you feel that way, just scroll past- no need to criticise the OP for asking the question.

Work for no pay without an EAD card

Hi,

So, I have a Bachelor's of Mechanical Engineering from Ireland. I've about 3 years experience under my belt right now. I previously worked in a HVAC design company for a year with a company in Massachusetts, on a J1 Internship Visa. It's how I met my now wife. I returned to Ireland and worked for two years as a Mechanical Design Engineer in a forklift company. It was in a high volume manufacturing environment and I loved it.

So, despite now having my EAD card, a couple of recruiters on LinkedIn have contacted me. I've explained I'm legally married now, my I-90 and K1 visa has expired and I've filed for AOS in August of 2019. Understandably, they can't continue with the job application.

I did get offered a job interview and it went very well. They are interested in me and they want me to reconnected when I have either my EAD or Greencard. I'm assuming the EAD will arrive first. However, I did pitch to them I'd work for no pay just to keep my experience up. They declined the offer.

My main question is can I apply for internships or jobs with no pay until I receive my EAD card? Another person also suggested working on engineering project that are posted for money on online. I'd be working as a third party consultant.

Any thoughts on this? Also, if any of you are mechanical engineers how long did it take to get employment?

I485 and medical confusion

I m a bit confused and wonder if any one has been in this position.

I moved to the US in April on a K1 visa, we got married and filed of AOS less than 3 weeks later. Prior to moving, as with anyone on the K1 visa I completed a medical on March 3rd.
Even though immigration have a hard copy of the results, we still sent a copy of it with our AOS application. Fast fast forward to last month, we had our interview on October 29th, we brought every item listed on the appointment letter including the medical results- we weren t asked to produce it. We have just received an RFE which states I need to get another medical, we are so confused as my original medical is still in date, we have produced both an original copy and a copy. Is this normal? As it s the weekend we can t talk to anyone at USCIS. We are totally at a loss and feeling every disheartening right now.

Visa DENIED within Seconds?????

One of my Brazilian friends went to Brasilia to get her visa. Spent hundreds on a plane ticket, a hotel, and nicer clothes. She was wracked with stress about the whole thing. Having heard all the horror stories.

She gets to the Consulate and the man asks literally 3 questions. Name, Destination, and Place of Employment. She answers, saying she works as a secretary and that she wants to go to Orlando.

That's all the guy wanted to hear and he gave her the rejection letter. This makes no sense to me.

What I have heard a lot is that the main reason that visa applicants get rejected is because "they say something suspicious". But she didn't have a chance to say anything suspicious because she didn't have a chance to say anything at all!

Unless there's something suspicious about being a secretary for a lawyer, or going to Orlando? Everybody knows that lots of Brazilians go to Orlando.

I know that the other reason applicants get rejected is that they "don't have strong enough ties to Brazil". But she didn't even get a chance to show how she's going to College in Brazil!!! How could she prove her ties are strong enough?

She has worked for this for at least (Edit: almost) a year, and to be pushed away within seconds...I just cannot fathom what could have gone so wrong. I want an explanation. Of course, myself not being an applicant, I cannot contact the NVC. So I came here.....
