Hi everyone, my I-130 petition has just been approved and is currently at the NVC stage and I have received the welcome letter.

I know that the next step is to pay online and then wait until NVC has processed payments and I can access Form DS-260.

In the meantime, can I start to work on the civil documents including getting a police certificate? I reside in Hong Kong and they require you to do it in person, however I am travelling for 2 months starting Sunday and I would like to get this done ASAP to avoid any delays in my visa process.

The requirements only state that I need the welcome letter as well as proof of identity- https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/HongKong.html

Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, we've finally gotten our interview date! Some questions:

1. Petitioner has switched jobs - should we update the I864/AOS?

2. I've moved houses - should we update the DS260?

3. My NBI is still valid (expired June 2023) but the address is still my old one. Is that ok?

Thank you!

Hello everyone,

I have been researching my situation a lot and need some help. My Fianc is Filipino and she has been working in Hong Kong for 6 years. She has 2 children that we would also like to bring to the US. From what I can tell the K1 is a good option for this however we want to go through the embassy in Hong Kong because the wait time in Hong Kong is less and that is where she lives. My understanding is when a K2 is applied for the children the embassy will want to move her case to Manila. With a CR1 she can travel back to the Philippines right away after coming to the US. I would rather here leave Hong Kong and bring them through the POE with her all in 1 trip due to travel costs.

any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks

Tim

Try to get notarial birth certificate

Hi there,

I was born in China pre-1996 without a birth certificate, moved to Hong Kong when I was 2 yo. Going to apply for a spouse visa, and I have already tried to get my notarial birth certificate in China but I was told they are not be able to give me becauae I did not have all the documents they requested for.

Someone told me they have successfully used a statement from a local attorney in China who documented all the communications with local authorities and proved their attempts to obtain the notarial birth certificate for his client.

I am going to do the same thing. But the tricky part is I have discrepancies of information on the hukou cancellation and my HKID.

One of the characters of my name on the hukuo cancellation is different from my other documents (we assumed it was because when my grandfather registered me at police station, people there wrote down another character which has the same pinyin).

Then when I moved to Hong Kong, people at the border mistakenly wrote my birth month wrong. So my date of birth on the hukuo cancellation is different from my HKID.

Anyone has similar experience and how did you explain these discrepancies?

Many thanks!

Filed I-130 for children, but I divorced

I filed I-130 for my children a while ago. but no decision yet. USCIS website said "6 months until case decision"

In the petition i uploaded the marriage certificate. I filed the petition in July 2022.

I married my wife in Hong Kong in 2012.

But i divorced with her today. The divorce is still in process, and the marriage certificate became invalid. HK government took back the marriage certificate.

So does my divorce affect my I-130 petitions for my children? because i provided marriage certificate, but it became invalid.

What should i do? Do i need to call USCIS? or provide other document?
