I received our NVC DQ 12-27-22. We are going through the Frankfurt consulate. I wanted to know if any one had any idea how long it would take for us to hear back with an interview date for that consulate? Can anyone tell me what exactly my husband will need to do ahead of time to make sure he goes to the interview totally prepared, like anything other than all the original documents we should bring?

Hi,

has anyone had any experience with going through Dublin as a POE first entry with a CR1/IR1? We will be traveling with 3 young kids and the idea of not having to wait at immigration after a 15-20h trip sounds great. The last reviews are from the early 2000 unfortunately.

I would love to hear your experiences!

Avoid abandoning LPR - sick mother in home country

Hello VJ-members,

I am very close to receiving IR-1 visa, assuming everything will go smoothly at my Interview on January 5, 2023.

However, my (German) mother just called me saying she has breast cancer. This obviously comes as a shock to me, I haven t even told my family that I will be moving to the US soon, because I didn t want to upset them before it s even happening.

On the one hand, I don t want to jeopardize my visa (which has been such a long journey - my US citizen wife filed I-130 in March 2021), on the other hand I don t want to just abandon my mother when who knows how long she s going to live. She s only 55 years old and her possibly dying has definitely not been on my mind - until now.

I m trying to think about what would be the best thing to do in this situation.

I had previously planned to move at the end of April 2023 (assuming I ll get the visa right after interview and I have to give 3 month notice to quit my job in Germany ).

now I just don t know should I try to move the interview to buy more time? (I ll have to redo the medical, since I already did it on Dec 8 and it s only valid for 6 months)

there is no way to extent the validation of 6 months to enter, is there? (I m talking visa, not medical)

Could i enter the US as planned and visit my mother in Germany?

if so, what exactly are the rules to avoid abandoning LPR status?

my mind is just running crazy right now, and I don t know what to do .
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am getting divorces next year. The court date is set and I would like to return to my maiden name. Do I have to change my US passport and naturalisation certificate or can I actually wait UNTIL I have to renew my passport because the ten years are up? And is it really necessary to change your name on the naturalisation certificate?

Green card expiring even with 24 month extension letter

My green card expires on 12/23/20. I filed for a new green card/ form I-751
October 1, 2020. After that, I first received an extension for 18 months, followed by an extension for 24 months. I did my biometrics appointment and the current status is, that I have to wait to be scheduled for an interview appointment (as of November 2021).
I did not realize that my green card was expiring 12/23/22 even WITH the extension until I got to Germany to visit my family. (I know, very stupid) I was not planning to
travel back until the 30th of December. I would like to try to get another extension. If I have to I will travel back before my green card expires I will for sure do that. But either way my residency status will expire soon.

I am a little worried that the process got confusing because I applied, while waiting, for the new green card for the N-400/citizenship and have already done my biometrics appointment for that this summer. Both processes are kind of running in parallel right now.
It is impossible to speak to a representative when calling the USICS office and the automated messages are not helpful in my case.

I am thankful for any tips on how I actually get a real person on the phone when calling usics or who best to contact.
