Hi - I know this is an old topic but it was the first to come up in a search, and you all may be able to answer our question. My spouse owns his house outright - it was left to him by his grandfather over a decade ago, and there is no mortgage or debt owing on the house. His income will not meet the minimum because he is sponsoring me and my son. Do we still have to get an appraisal or will a current house tax statement showing the value of the house be sufficient? How do we evidence that there are no liens or mortgages outstanding on the house? I also own a house and will be selling this to move to the US - according to this thread, I can use that value. Is that correct? Thanks for your help.

Hey y'all. I'm moving from Toronto to Chicago. Have lots of clothes and belongings. What's the most economical way to move my stuff? I was considering packing all my stuff in 2 large luggage bags but would rather not deal with that hassle during travel. Do you guys recommend shipping courier like FedEx or are there other companies that specialize in moving? Appreciate all your comments. Stay safe.

Interview conflict with pregnancy due date? |

Hello! I am not finding any info regarding my particular concerns so throwing this out there. I am currently pregnant, due July 18 (found out on our wedding day in November!). Filed AOS first week of December, got my EAD/AP first week of March. My status has been showing ready to be scheduled for an interview since February 9th. I was actually expecting an interview date to arrive any day when USCIS closed their offices in March. Now that they're due to open in June I'm scared my interview will be next in line to be scheduled and now fall very close to my due date. I'm a high risk pregnancy and likely to be hospitalized and/or get an emergency C-section any time after 36 weeks. I'm wondering if a request to postpone until after my due date is possible before the interview date is even issued? Or do I have to wait and get the notice in the mail before making a request? Would pregnancy and labour risk be enough reason to ask to reschedule if I'm not in the hospital yet? Ideally I would be able to ask them to only schedule me after August 1st to avoid any rescheduling altogether. I just have no idea if I can make such a request. Any thoughts?

I would like to know about the experiences of anyone whose parents have immigrated to the US post retirement. I m thinking about the feasibility of my parents someday moving to the US when they retire. Having never worked here, they won t qualify for Medicare and would need to purchase their own insurance. I realize there a so many variables in our complicated system, but I am curious what these costs can be like if anyone doesn t mind sharing. I m guessing costs can vary by state as well since some have laws to keep costs (relatively) reasonable. Thank you

I had a few interviews for foot-in-the-door positions that complimented my degree, experience or passions that haven't returned follow up communications, and lots of recruiters saying I'm not the right fit, just feeling a bit down. Had one company come right out and ask about the gap on my resume (June 2019-now) before scheduling an interview, and I explained I was waiting for my work permit and am good to work in the US,, emphasizing I am here for good/on a marriage basis. I fear this is the first thing EVERY hiring manager sees, then my lack of instate/country references, my out of country work experience/education..I think it has put me at a disadvantage in positions I'm qualified for..especially with all the recent news of work permit visas being denied, I think the layman hiring manager will put conditional residents quietly aside. Now I'm applying for positions I'm overqualified for, and in these times a little concerned about (I'd be joining the front-lines of essential workers in a tourist town). Maybe I am looking for excuses why I haven't found a job, but maybe all of us relatively unskilled conditional residents are feeling their non-citizen status harder than usual. I can't apply for many jobs even because they are federal..or require a full drivers license (I got my learners a day before the DMV closed!) It's tough!! I am hoping for the best..and that this is just an extremely hard time for a new immigrant entering the work force. I am trying to be thankful at least some places are hiring lots, but I am also a bit humiliated and sad I can't find a job I will enjoy more/be proud of, after a bachelors degree and 5 rewarding years moving up in a small industry that's shut down for the year. I'm thinking 20-30 hours in a stocking job is about all I can handle for now, after being depressed for so long I miss my friends/fam a lot after my first year in America, and had hoped to dive into a new community, have my old friends come stay with me, make new ones, find a decent job, and hobby groups, but it's been hard. Much love to all of you out there going through these motions!
